same. i'm so grateful that my sister and i are close (both in our relationship and geographically) and can work as a team because oof. sort of related, my sister's family lives across the street from us. we walk the kids to school together in the mornings, tag team a lot of the summer camp and extracurricular driving, send the kids back and forth, borrow ingredients/share food constantly, etc. it's truly life changing stuff. i'd totally do a family compound if we could afford the land for it where we like living. I lived this life with my brothers for 5 years and it was amazing. Ultimately I hated the neighborhood and we moved. I absolutely don’t regret the move but do miss the cousins running back and forth all the time i think i remember that you used to live closeish to us? i might be making that up. west u/med center-ish?

my belated UO is that i hate pinterest. i don't get it. I mean don't use it if you don't want to but what's not to get? It's a place to save things on the Internet if you want to refer back to them, a la recipes or whatever. I have boards for knitting, baking, DIY, books I see that I might want to read, kid wish lists for birthdays and holidays. I even save stuff for work there, like articles about our field if I want to refer back to them quickly or whatever. My role is rapidly changing, and I do a lot of reading on personal time as I adapt. It's great to then just save it to the pin board so I can back. It's an organization app. So you don't need 44 tabs open on your phone.

STP i guess i mean that it's never been as easy for me to use as i think it should be - vs bookmarking something from an actual browser. i don't like that it takes multiple clicks to get to what i want to see. it's a me thing...clearly no shortage of fans!

We lived in a northern suburb but my kid went to K in that area! Now we’re a little west of the loop. Your area is one of my favorites but nowhere near my kid’s school. Maybe he will go to Rice and we move so he can still live with us. Full circle 🤣

I use Pinterest all the time. Mostly for nail art these days but every time we do even a basic house project I end up creating a board for it.

You all have a lot more faith in our economy than I do. I foresee adult children needing family homes a lot more, rather than less, in the coming years. And multigenerational situations being a lot more necessary, beyond cultural and "wouldn't that be nice" ideas. Things are not getting better in this country any time soon. I've said out loud before that I think we're moving back to where homes are passed down through generations as inheritance due to the direction of the economy. I'm doing my best to save to give the kid a head start in 15 years because who the heck knows what life will look like.

I should start using my Pinterest again. I haven't since I planned my first wedding 14 years ago. But I love digital organization so much.

I’m basically an old lady at heart-paper grocery lists, paper planner, an actual physical address book, stationary…dinner at 5pm.

I did too but I got tired of leaving it at home or getting back from the store to cries of "we're out of yogurt though!" The family adds to our list on our joint one note, and then it's just on my phone when I get to the store. Same with the calendar, the kids add things and I don't have to murder my beloved husband when he asks "what are we doing Saturday" after I told him forty-seven times.

That’s too much family involvement.

The physical act of writing, usually in cursive, helps me remember things. IDK years of education before chromebooks. Now my phone has a pen so I can hand write my list and never forget it at home. I’ve heard there’s some science to this and chosen to believe it without even a follow up because I can’t remember shit if I don’t physically write it down. Like wouldn’t remember I put it somewhere digitally and can’t stand the constant notifications I would get. So here I sit doing both.

I blame the reading threads for my millions of open tabs.
As soon as I mark one as want to read on goodreads I close the tab. Just to open the reading thread and three new book searches 🙃

I made a physical meal planning binder this year and can only shop with a paper list. I organize it based on the layout of my store and I jam through it so fast. If I had to use my phone, I’d be a hot mess. The risk is if it’s not on the list, I will not get it. There is no remembering add ons. The family has a paper list on the fridge to add anything they want or need and I ask one time while making my list. If they don’t speak up, they wait a week. I run a tight, paper based ship.

That’s how my brain works too. I basically got through college by always going to class and taking notes but not studying as much. My friends used to tease me about how much I went to class no matter what but I had to hear it and wrote it and then it was in my brain. Of course that was a 20 year old brain. Now I would have to also study it.

My husband and I use Google Keep for our grocery list so we can ask Google Home to add things to the list as we notice we're running low in the kitchen and my kid tries to add eleventy ice creams and candies and whatnot and Google shuts him down every time and tells him she doesn't recognize his voice. 😂

Many kids learn better writing the math problems and working them out. I'm so sick of the chromebooks in school. We are way too dependent on them.

Not in stores, but at home while paying bills, if the service fee for online bill pay is more than the cost of my stamps I'm writing a check. Stupid water and sewer bill! See also school fees and property taxes.

I've mostly switched over to Bill Pay through my bank so that I don't have to mail checks and use a stamp, which now costs 7,989 cents or something.

If I write it down I might remember it. If I type it or look at it on a screen it's like I never even saw it. It's how my brain works. for an event that happened I need pictures to really remember it later. I've always been that way. So dh spits out details of something and I'm like pictures or it didn't happen So I do use pinterest for craft ideas, and recipes plus other stuff where a picture works well

That’s too much family involvement. I ignore the silly requests. But they've gotten involved in the process now, and rarely do that anymore. Everyone should do what they want, I like working with them to realize the mental load I carry and how they can help me out. They're also 11 and 12, so I can expect more. We're working on fully doing their laundry, changing sheets once a week, and we have a tag team approach to cleaning the family spaces. My H is working weekends right now and some nights. I'm really proud of how much they have stepped up.

I wrote a check for $44 to pay a dr bill I made them mail to me. That's how I deal with medical stuff to keep my money as long as possible lol

No matter if we are digital or paper. So that 1 thing goes on next grocery list
