Why do you open tab people not just bookmark the pages?? I forget about bookmarks My phone doesn't have a way of creating folders for bookmarks, so I find they're not that helpful. I do create them when it's super important, but most of my tabs are either things I can't give attention to in the moment or a new (and usually redundant) tab opened up because I got interrupted.

I do not want my children to live with me forever. Is that a flame-worthy confession? DS2 is only about to be 10 so we have a while, but I'm looking forward to everyone living their own lives. It’s not flame-worthy to me because, same. +1. Getting them out of my house is 100% my parenting goal. I realize this comes from a place of privilege because I’m sure I’ll have to help them over that hump from living at home to actually independent, but by all means gtfo. 😂

What kind of browser/phone doesn’t let you make folders? Are you using a flip phone?

wasabi, I don't think what you said is wrong at all. He has no car--so maybe he CAN get an Uber and take her? That's not unreasonable to me. Anyway, I'm glad for you and her that you found a way to make it work. It must be hard.

We live across the street from my parents and it’s amazing. I’m fully on board the multi generational living thing and if it were just up to me, we’d all live together. My ILs are looking for a house in my SIL’s neighborhood. Loooong story short (VA fuckery, parent health quickly declining, child mental health crisis…), a year later we’re still staying with my parents. It’s actually pretty awesome for my mom and me. I help with my dad, she helps with my kids, and we have a very open and frank financial situation going on. My ILs live just up the road and we have a good relationship with them now. We’re in talks to buy a house about a mile from my parents and across the road from the ILs. Our long term plan is to move my mom in with us when Dad passes. I kinda love it for this phase of our lives. I work a lot of call and if there is an emergency and H is traveling for work, I never have to worry about the boys being home alone when I rush out of the house.

wasabi 1) I don’t blame you. It’s not like you called him a lazy ass. 2) he could get an Uber. 3) she already knows. My kids do and they’re younger than yours and I haven’t said a thing.

Idk, it never seemed straightforward like on a computer so I didn't give it much thought. Anyway, in case anyone is wondering. I only have 2 tabs open on my new phone and they will both be closed out before I go to bed tonight. 😆

They know, even subconsciously. I finally told SD that her mom needs to pay for one gd formal dress this year because we’ve bought them all (fortunately she loves thrifting and finding funky/vintage stuff, so we’ve not spent a ton). I don’t think she had fully stopped to think about it like that but I’ve seen a little adjustment in her attitude about some things since.

My parents are in their 70s and we're really seeing some stuff with them. I have a lot of anxiety over what the next steps are for them, realizing my turn as caretaker in this relationship is about to begin. It's a lot, mentally. For me anyway. same. i'm so grateful that my sister and i are close (both in our relationship and geographically) and can work as a team because oof. sort of related, my sister's family lives across the street from us. we walk the kids to school together in the mornings, tag team a lot of the summer camp and extracurricular driving, send the kids back and forth, borrow ingredients/share food constantly, etc. it's truly life changing stuff. i'd totally do a family compound if we could afford the land for it where we like living. I lived this life with my brothers for 5 years and it was amazing. Ultimately I hated the neighborhood and we moved. I absolutely don’t regret the move but do miss the cousins running back and forth all the time

I also just think maintaince sucks on a house and with a yard. So I am not wanting to spend my retirement days on house upkeep if I can avoid it. My husband has turned into a composting and Hügelkultur enthusiast. His plans for raised garden beds this spring are...intense. He's totally going to be one of those old guys in a straw hat measuring his grass. I can already tell. I love the birdies raised modular beds!

I think I've said this before, but when we moved here, one of the things I made clear is that our kids will likely not move out at 18 and wanted to make sure MH was ok with that. If our kids go to university here, unless it's up north, they will live at home until they are probs in their late 20s. It's both an economic and cultural norm here. We are lucky to have a pretty modern 4 bed, 3.5 bath with an office mezzanine, which is big for the Portuguese.
We will downsize one day, probably to my dad's house next door which is a one story ranch when we get older (and he has passed), but I suspect my kid(s) will still be living in our current house with their families by then.
If we need to extra downsize I want to get one of these (https:\\tinylar.com) fancy trailer homes for our land. Then I'd leave near my future goats and watch sunsets over the ocean! Also, highly recc these for those of you planning to join my post apocalyptic commune 😅

I think fundraising for the direct benefit of the school and students is fine but I can't stand this nationwide shit of pushing fundraisers for American Heart Association telling students they can "win prizes" for donations. Stop hyping up my kid with the notion of a key chain to get my $10, go knock on Fortune 500's door. YES. also let's quit with all the junk prizes in general, bc i swear that's like half my house. the kids get attached bc they "won that!" and i hate it. OMG my BIL JUST emailed dh asking for us to support his dd's goal to fundraise for the American Heart Association. I was floored and laughed, but dh was like, we ask them to support our kids' fundraisers, so I'm going to donate. I was like, yeah we ask them once a year for each kid to buy hoagies from ds's band fundraiser, and candy from dd's dance fundraiser because those are their main activities and our kids really benefit from raising money for these things. If we emailed them for every fundraiser the kids do through school, can you imagine??? But he still donated.

Come join me in my workaround. Instead of keeping tabs open, I’ll screenshot the contents and close the tab. So then I have 1695626 random pictures on my phone that I never look at! Those are my emotional support screenshots... Exactly! Sometimes I look at some of the screenshots and can’t remember why I took the picture in the first place though.

I’m sure this is regional, but a big issue with boomers not moving out of their large homes is a lack of other options. My mom needs and (sort of) wants to move, but to where? She is in her 70’s, but in no way ready for a retirement home. She doesn’t have any health issues. She doesn’t want to go into an apartment or condo, she just wants a small house with small yard close to us. But there just aren’t many places that fit that here. I personally like my space and don’t want her living with us. Our house, while fairly big, isn’t set up for it. Everyone would need their own space and it wouldn’t work. Even my parents moved to Sun City, which is one of those active retirement communities with pool, golf courses, softball, etc. (it an awesome place for 70 year olds) but even there, all the homes are single family 1600-2700sf starting at 450k. And I'm like WHY??? Because like mentioned earlier, a 3 bedroom house really is not enough to "have the whole family" for the holiday. So majority of their house sits empty all year except for the twice a year I fly down. It would be so perfect to have a community like that with a bunch of tiny homes for half the price.

I honestly don't really enjoy buying "stuff" from fundraisers. I dont need 20 pieces of chocolate or 10 random pizza kits. I like the ones that are like pledges to walk a thons and stuff
I cant even tell you how often someone in my family has said we can just pick out the food and keep it and they'll send a check and I'm appreciative but also like I don't want this stuff either 🤣

They're tired of buying shit after 13 years of SD selling to them. And if they pledge $20, the entire $20 is going to the school instead of taking a cut from whatever outrageous price a butterbraid is anymore.

I was like no thanks, I don't want a takeout container of food that's passed through multiple people. 🤮

It’s always well received (and it’s not a large check by any means, but $20 in pocket is worth well more than $20 of wrapping paper sold).
