And in all seriousness, I’ve met lots of people who do seem to think only red meat constitutes as “meat.” Does anyone know where this thinking comes from? Didn’t we all learn in elementary science class that Birds, fish, even insects are classed as animals? Not being a smart ass, genuinely trying to understand. I think maybe it's a religious thing because I remember Cher saying some of her family doesn't consider fish meat. Like they know it's not logical but tradition just had them thinking that way is what I took from it? My grandma was Catholic and on Fridays they couldn't eat "meat," only fish, so I'm guessing that's where it comes from? I'm not religious at all so I could be wrong but I always assumed that fish gets a green light because the Bible says Jesus are fish? ETA: I have no idea about the chicken thing, but I think this is just a case of them not being mammals, thus making them less similar to humans and easier to view them as "just stupid animals." I don’t know if it was me but that’s definitely how a lot of Catholics look at it.

Re meat: both chicken/poultry/mammals and fish are animals. But I’ve always thought of them as two different categories foodwise: meat and fish. I think this has more to do with the nutritional qualities of the two 🤔? That's kinda how I've always thought of them too. Or animals from the water and animals from the land. Two categories, all animals.

This may be completely wrong, but I've heard that the fish on Fridays during lent came from way back when. People were supposed to eat fish 1 day a week to support the fishing industry... or something? and it just carried over into a Lenten tradition. Typing this out, it sounds completely made up. I'm off to google.

I guess it makes sense that this is where the ‘fish not being a meat thing’ came from. I’m also a cradle Catholic and grew up w fish Fridays during Lent. But fish Friday didn’t change the fact that I viewed fish as animals. animals = meat.

I'm no too far off-
"One of the most widely circulated theories is a medieval pope made a pact with some fishermen buddies - not the fishers-of-men kind but literal fishermen - to boost their business. According to some variations of the tale, the pope even owned a fish company. So, to make sure business was booming, he ordered Catholics must eat fish on Fridays during Lent."
ETA- or there's the theory that meat is an indulgence but fish isn't as good as meat so you should fast from meat, but can still have fish since it's not a guilty pleasure "Wherefore the Church forbade those who fast to partake of those foods which both afford most pleasure to the palate, and besides are a very great incentive to lust. Such are the flesh of animals that take their rest on the Earth."

Lol slenle. That makes this fish Friday thing sound even more crazy. I honestly thought it was to deprive ourselves of a luxury (meat being expensive, harder to obtain in Biblical Times).

They should just lie about it.
My reasoning was better than "some corrupt Pope made it up centuries ago and nobody knows why but we still do it."

Has anyone ever gotten their tubes tied during a RCS? I'm debating it cause we suck at preventing pregnancy, but worry we'll regret it. Also, does it add much time in the OR? Cause I want out if there ASAP.

I never thought of fish as meat until a few years ago when one of my coworkers criticized my boss for saying she was a vegetarian but she ate fish so therefore she was a pescatarian. I was also brought up on "Fish fry Fridays" and that fish didn't count as meat because they can't feel. Obviously I know how wrong that is now, but I never thought to question it.

I'd say if you're contemplating tubal, discuss now with your OB, but during RCS would be ideal so you don't have to go back later.

It make sense to do it since they're already in there, but if you're unsure, I'd wait until after baby and make YH snip snip when you make the final decision Only fair they feel some pain, right?

I kept Josie home again today bc her voice is pretty much gone and she's coughing this blustery cough. No fever all day, so I was guessing she's good to go tomorrow, so of course she's spiked a 101 fever now.

I haven’t even been gone 24 hrs and I already miss the kids. I’m currently drinking coffee alone, while catching up in here and then I’ll probably finish my book. When do you get UA results? Usually it takes a couple days, right? I’m hoping it’s tomorrow or Friday and I won’t have to wait over the weekend. Daycare just called and she’s vomiting again.

How is the visit going tgrimes? Was your sister surprised!? Good so far. She was asleep on the couch when I walked in so it took her a minute to register it was me. She’s going to see if she can take tomorrow or Friday off.

Ggandlee doesn’t think it’s a UTI, based solely on what I told her. I just wish I knew what was going on and I’m worried daycare will tell me to stop bringing her.

Cause I want out if there ASAP. I signed the consent for that last week so give me a few weeks and I will let you know how it goes. I asked my doctor if I could sign the form at my first prenatal visit. Of course I told DH I signed the forms and he says "when I make senior VP, you can have another." I told him I will be too old by then (plus 4 CS already) and he said challenge accepted. Hopefully he makes senior VP before September 2019 so I never go back to work again.

My Ob told me something like 80% of women who have tubal ligation done, regret it. I laughed and told her I would not be part of that percentage. So yes, talk to your doctor and think it through. It is very difficult to reverse, if you ever wanted to.

My sister had her tubes tied with c-section #4. Her dr told her she couldn’t have anymore though, so she doesn’t regret it.
I’ll ask her how much longer it took in the OR.

I’m catholic and we always ate fish on fridays during lent bc we couldn’t eat meat. It’s weird bc logically I know it’s meat. And I know vegetarians don’t eat fish. But I never ever questioned it. I had lunch with carter today and it was grandparents day so there was a ton of gp’s at the school. When I was leaving I saw this. I had to take a pic. Like some grandparent was in a huge rush to bring lunch to their grandkid. And then I thought of those videos showing people trying so hard to parallel park

Where you get a result right away but then they culture it also. Maybe I’m wrong. Eta: when I went to the ER they had my results before I left that I had a UTI and gave me a script for antibiotics.
