This is definitely random. For those of you that pump, do you do it hands free? The LC at the hospital have me the worlds beat advice. Insteax of buyinf an expensobe hands free pumping bra sje told.me to take.an old sports bra and cut 2 holes.in the cuos.and put the pump parts there. I bought a cheap $5 sports bra at Wal-Mart and have been using it hands free since ingot home from the hospital. Just thought I'd share because in Love my 15 minutes of hands free pumping because I read a book.while doing it. Hands free pumping is a must. I did the sports bra trick the last time but this time I bought a medela strapless one with a front zipper which will work much better once I go back to work.

Omg this kid is gonna make me not sleep tonight. I put him on his back and of course he is now side sleeping. I know in reality if he can do it, he should be fine. Plus his arms are out. However, I already peaked over to check on him a millions and even tried to move him to his back. My DS1 never really had the chance to side sleep so early at night since he slept in RNP. E sleeps all the time but she doesn"t use blankets and has no other items in her crib so I feel a bit better about it.

My MIL arrived today (here til Friday) and I am so over it already. I like her, we get along fine, but ugh. I'm ready to be on my own for a few days without a constant (grand) parent around. I hate having to be "on" all the time- constantly talking, constantly interacting, constantly waiting on her. I made her lunch (and mine). I told her he was still hungry but "1 month olds don't eat 5oz!" Uhm, our fatty does.... and then she got him to fall asleep around 6p- and he slept til 10p! Like what! He's not going sleep all night now! Omg 😣 And then I fell asleep, after we discussed dinner would be pasta with meat sauce and she said she would cook it- I woke up at 9pm and no dinner was made!! I was like what? And she said "well I had no idea where to start, so I figured I'd wait for you." ARE YOU KIDDING MEEEEE?? And DH was on call at work so he didn't get home til after 10pm today. Like. 😣😤😒 Ummm yeah no. Straight outta the MIL playbook. 1. My fatty drinks 6 oz sometimes so yes, all babies are different. 2. If youre gonna volunteer to make dinner, it should be made at a reasonable hour to eat dinner. Maybe you can sneak in some wine in between nursing or pumping to help.

It's so weird seeing yellow leaves falling from the trees when it's still in the mid/upper 80s here. I went out for our walk at 10:30 this morning and it was already ridiculously hot.

Today has been a bit better. Last night after DH came home N woke up and I put 5oz in the bottle and he was still screaming so DH was like HES HUNGRY and kiddo took 6oz. So today she's like I think he needs more! So at least she's not starving my fatty today. I was just flabbergasted yesterday 😒

After yesterday's horrible sleep cycle J did well last night . He had a 3 hour 15 minute stretch and a 2.5 hour stretch. Plus it normally takes 1.5 hours to get him back to sleep but he was down in under an hour both times so I got about 6 hours of sleep last night.

king26 I'm so glad! N wasn't awful but he wasn't great. He slept for a big chunk in the evening so he was up at 1,4,7. I miss my long four hr stretch of sleep! Woof.

Are most of you using pacifiers? Maybe I should set up a poll but I'm not sure how. I want baby H to use one mainly bc of the studies that have found a correlation with a reduced risk of sids. However, I can't get him to take one. I've tried when he's not hungry and have tried the Avent soothies. At best, he sucks for about 30 seconds. At worst he starts screaming. Curious about what others are doing.

He actually wouldn't take one until almost 4 months, and he would only take the Avent ones.

Baby h is only 5 weeks so maybe he just needs time.

I feel like if she took one it might help with the fussiness

Attempt number 2 with the Moby wrap is a huge success. I got him in there snug and he is passed out. I'm doing all kinds of things because my hands are free! Woohoo!

We give J a pacifier when he has finished eating and when we burp him. He will keep it in his mouth just fine. Then we put it in when DH soothes him to sleep. It's taken some work and we just keep trying but he is good with it mostbof the time. He only likes the agent ones

Sometimes he acts like we are trying to poison him by giving him a paci lol

I miss my child that slept for 4+ hours for at least one stretch overnight ðŸ˜
I wanted to stab my MIL. I got a 2hr nap on Thursday and she's acting like I should be so well rested. Lady, I was up every 2-3hr all nights. A 2hr nap at 4pm does not make up for all the broken sleep. Eff off. 😒

So what constitutes STTN? P slept 7 hours straight last night, 11-6. I'm not getting my hopes up though - DS was a great sleeper in the beginning too, then once he started daycare at 12 weeks he would wake up 2-4x a night until I weaned him at 14 months 😒

DS is a hot mess. I think he's having some adjustment issues- I've never seen him cry/scream/tantrum so much. And last night he started having cold symptoms. Boo!
Luckily, DD sleeps through the loud chaos of her brother and dog. But gosh, I'm glad it's Friday. We've had a really crazy busy week.

Luckily, DD sleeps through the loud chaos of her brother and dog. But gosh, I'm glad it's Friday. We've had a really crazy busy week. We went through this with DS too in the very beginning - he never acted outwardly jealous of P (in fact just the opposite), but he started acting out at daycare, wouldn't nap, totally regressed in potty training, and the meltdowns at home were insane. H and I had to make sure that when he came home from daycare, one of us needed to spend some quality one-on-one time with him. He still has his moments for sure, but it's definitely gotten better. The lack of attention was subconsciously affecting him, at least that's what we think.

Bad morning here. J refused the boob for the first time. I'm talking crying and ear piercing screaming when I tried to feed him. By the time I had a bottle made he was in full blown meltdown and I was bawling my eyes out. DH came into the room as we were both losing it and looked shocked . Rough start . I've been feeling better about breast feeding and this crushed me today. He is 4 weeks old today and I'm afraid I'm going to have to give up the boob sooner then latrr.

N didn't refuse the boob this morning but he wouldn't latch for long, kept fussing, wouldn't fall back asleep, and finally I have him to DH and he took a whole bottle from him. As if my boob wasn't giving him enough? Idk. I feel like he doesn't get enough from my boobs sometimes. Sigh. ETA: but when I pump I pump enough for a whole bottle feeding or more, so I don't know why he doesn't seem satisfied by my boob in the morning 😕

Hugs king26. Mine did this the other day, refused to latch on either side, and baby and I were both crying our eyes out. You know, it may have been around 4 weeks. I think they just go through phases or maybe he just happened to have a tummy ache and really didn't want to eat. I know the inclination is to think he's starting to refuse the breast--I thought the same-- but mine is back to loving the boob, so hopefully yours will too!!

Does anyone on this board exclusively formula feed? I have some questions if you do. I'm going to try to keep doing this half breastfeed half formula but I have some questions for when we switch to all formula and that may be sooner then later. Also, I'm hoping this fussiness is maybe J's first leap? Wonder Weeks says his first leap will start in 3 days. Those of you that went through the first leap....was your baby fussy the whole week? Could you tell? What made it different from other weeks? Did it get better the week AFTER the leap? addymac, Yeah a 2 hour nap doesn't touch the month or two of broken sleep. I'm sorry N was fussy this morning as well. I always feel like J doesn't get enough from the boob. Well I mean he doesn't but then I ration out the formula and worry that I'm not giving him enough of either. Thanks thinkchocolate05, it helps to commiserate. I'm at the point now where I just either want him to latch and get enough or refuse all the time so we can just move on. I'm actually surprised we've made it 4 weeks on the boob. I'm hoping for 8 weeks but realistically I'm hoping I make it just 6 weeks and I think I'll be happy.

I read somewhere once that at this stage, babies mistake any sort of discomfort as hunger so they may be giving you hunger cues but not actually be hungry, hence the refusal to eat king26. P does it sometimes too, she'll act like she's going to latch but just sort of bobs around and then screams. I'm sorry, I know it's super frustrating.

king26, based on what wonder weeks said for me, it said M was just starting the leap because it goes by due date not birth date (she was a week early) but I feel like based on what it says she started this earlier than that. I'm no help about improving because mine is a cranky mess the majority of the time. I hope it breaks soon. It's so hard and frustrating 😞

king26 R is exclusively formula fed. We are supposed to be headed into our first leap. I haven’t noticed a change. Last time we didn’t always know we were in the fussy period until afterward - then we’d notice changes. We also realized with T that she would nap more when she was about to do something new.
