I finished Hex Appeal, it was a cute witchy rom com but nothing special. Would recommend for a quick light Halloween read though

I haven’t been here forever (anxiety from election taking up all my mental space/time) so my apologies if this has been discussed, but I just opened up BOTM to see One Tree Hill star Bethany Joy Lenz has a pick this month and it’s a memoir about her time in a cult. Damn. Maybe I did know about this, or maybe I’m tricking myself into thinking that I read it somewhere. Either way, I’m shocked and I’m definitely adding this to my box, though I’m for sure going to listen to the audiobook regardless, as I assume it’s read by her.

I'm reading All the Missing Girls by Megan Miranda. It's interesting, but it's telling the story backwards and it makes it hard to understand. I'm about halfway through.

She just recently started to talk about it I think but I’m definitely going to read her book and I don’t do many memoirs

I enjoyed The Mesmerist. It's set at a home for unwed mothers in Minnesota during the 1890s. A bit historical fiction, bit murdery, and not super long.
Just started the god of the woods.

I just finished In Search of April Raintree for my book club and it was good but holy shit very heavy.
Ready for something a little silly now. I'm still working my way through A Court of Wings and Ruin

Quoting this comment from Adelbert about this book, because I read it after seeing her rating on Goodreads. I finished "A Children's Bible" by Lydia Millet on the train today and really enjoyed it. It was a dystopian climate change novel focusing on just a few teens on vacation with their families. I've read quite a few of these climate change dystopian novels and this one was surprisingly well done and I think this was my favorite. I finished it a couple weeks ago and I was so unsettled and anxious while reading the majority of it. I don't think I've ever felt so uneasy while reading a book. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy it. I did, and I'm glad I read it. But I was in a heightened state of alarm for the children characters in the story. Maybe dystopian novels aren't really my jam lol All of the parents were worthless in that book and I found it pretty depressing but I did enjoy it LOL.

I think I have finally coerced H into reading it when he’s done with his current book so we can discuss. I had my mom read it and we discussed over dinner the other night but her brain is too similar to mine so it wasn’t very helpful.

I just finished the Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse. I had read the retreat a while back and liked that one a bit more. Anyone read her third book yet? Wondering how it compares to the others.
I feel like I need to read it to find out how the series concludes but also didn’t love the first two so I’m not sure it’s worth it?

I don't get scared easily but some of it legit freaked me out, the concept of it all. It was well written too and slowly built up. My favorite kind of read

I read a bunch this weekend!! I finished the boyfriend and the girl who survived I liked the boyfriend until the end The girl who survived was just ok I feel like Freida McFadden is becoming the M Night Shyamalan of thriller fiction. You know a twist is coming, and either you see it coming like a freight train, or it makes absolutely no sense and ruins the rest of the book. (Not that I'm going to stop reading her books LOL )

I read The Frozen River and mostly liked it. A few plot holes I thought.
I started The Matzah Ball and so far am liking it. There are definitely some "No One Wants This" vibes, if you liked that show.

I finished Midnight on Beacon Street and it was a pretty good read, definitely a coming of age/homage to 80's slashers/babysitter final girls - I really liked the main character, would recommend.
I am reading Payback is a Witch and Prison Born (an academic book that looks at the jail system in Canada and specifically separation of mom and infants) for my book club as one of the members wrote it; it's interesting but very..academic, so a bit harder to get through.

I DNF Pumpkin Roll by Josi Kilpack. It started off interesting but then started to drag. The recipes at the end of every other chapter were distracting too. I'm giving the author another try with Autumn Masquerade, a set of Regency Era historical fiction novellas.
I was able to check out ADHD is Awesome by Penn Teller again and finished it this time. 5 stars.
I forgot I had pre-ordered a set of Christmas novellas, Evergreen Christmas, from Amazon. I started one last week but just couldn't do Christmas yet so I'll try again in a few weeks.

I had requested it also based on brux's review, and it became available much faster than I expected. I wasn't ready yet so I delayed my hold. ETA The Children's Bible dystopian novel

I finally finished All the Colors of the Dark. I did really like it but I’m glad I had warning of how long it was. Definitely took awhile to get through. Will be one that sticks with me. I need something easy and mindless after that.

I finished the audiobook of Pumpkin Spice cafe over the weekend. I enjoyed it, it was a Hallmark movie with spice. I also finished All the Missing Girls and it was a 2 for me. I almost DNF'ed it - not because the plot was necessarily bad, but because of the whole "telling it backwards" thing. Once you get to the revelations, it feels like everything you read up to that point doesn't make sense for the characters, even though it does for the reader (if that makes sense). Plus it made everything more confusing.
Reading These Fleeting Shadows by Kate Alice Marshall now, then Iron Flame next. Listening to Time and Tide, the next in the DC Smith series.

I have a couple Christmas books that are ready to pick up so I may run to get those

cakewench , I also finished Pumpkin Spice Cafe over the weekend. I am not feeling particularly pulled to read book 2 but I might dip back in for Book 3 since it's a Christmas one lol.
