I finished the serpent and the wings of night. I liked it. It was semi-predicable but it had some interesting surprises. Overall I liked it and I will be reading the novella and the sequel that are out already.
I started Pestilence by Laura Thalassa. I liked her Bargainer series so I figured I would give this a try.

I need a good book series to dive into this autumn. Recommendations are very welcome! Series Iβve read and loved so far for reference: All 3 SJM series Murderbot Shepherd King Red Rising Thursday Murder Club Grey Man Orphan X So if anyone has anything similar Iβm open to suggestions? I will keep repeating the Of Blood and Ash series for SJM fans: I enjoy them just as much, if not even a bit better, than SJM. Isn't it 2 series that intertwine as well? I haven't read it yet, but I've heard it's really good. The other series is Flesh and Fire. There's a tiktok gal I follow that I get most of my TBR books from and this is my next series I think I'll try. She has the order of how to read them since the series can go together. I don't know if these are similar to those you've read but they are on my TBR as well and come up on as suggestions from those that enjoy SJM: Plated Prisoner Crimson Moth - I really enjoyed the first one and the 2nd comes out early 2025 Protector Guild

And Hello everyone! I don't read nearly as much as most of you to post often, but I get lots of recommendations from you guys. I started reading again this year and set a small goal to try to reach as part of my Resolution.
For August I read 2 books:
Queen of Shadows The Dark Window - and quickly went into the next one, I'm loving them both.

I finished Remarkably Bright Creatures last night and loved it.
This morning I got: The It Girl by Ruth Ware Unseen Universe by Dr. Caroline Harper How to do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy by Jenny Odell
and the most random, cause I am already planning my Key West trip, Where is Joe Merchant by Jimmy Buffet

I read all of Flesh and Fire after I finished the Blood And Ash books - F&F take place like a thousand years before the Blood and Ash series. I think you can read them that way too, instead of intertwined. I actually liked having all the B&A books read first.

My August was just Jane Austen (and I need to do a wrap up in that thread lol I am so late XP) - but I finally gave star ratings to them! This is this year's ranking: 1. P&P - 5 stars 2. Persuasion - 5 stars 3. Sense & Sensibility - 4.5 stars 4. Mansfield Park - 4 stars 5. Emma - 4 stars 6. Northanger Abbey - 3.5 stars -snip- I'm an Austen August drop out. I gave up on the audio for Northanger Abbey once my loan was due. I still love adaptations but can't do the classic language as pleasure reading right now. Can you fly me to wherever you are so we can just have a movie marathon of the classics?

I finished Demon of Unrest and it was very good. Not surprising since the author is fantastic at making history read like a fiction novel.
Onto some fun light reading now because two narrative nonfiction historical books in a row was a lot for my brain, ha.

I managed to finish Darling Girls and Turn of the Key over the weekend (which sounds impressive but I had started Turn of the Key back in July). Both were good, 3.5 and 3 stars respectively. I've read 3 straight thrillers though, and listening to Silent Patient, so I'm hoping Project Hail Mary delivers at my library today because I need a genre cleanser lol.
Turn of the Key was my first Ruth Ware book - any recommendations for others by her?

cakewench, I've enjoyed most of Ruth Ware's books. I'm pretty close to finishing Zero Days which was a good follow up after First Lie Wins (different author but similar vibes). I enjoyed The It Girl and One by One as well.

I was behind my goodreads challenge by 6 books and I caught up in the last week. I was reading a ton of books at the same time so ended up finishing some.
All In (Naturals series) - I am loving these. I'm sad there is only one left. Off to the Races - Really enjoyed this romance. Elsie Silver is a new fave of mine. Magnolia Parks - Insufferable. Hate read by the end lol. Don't understand the popularity. Elsewhere - I know it's YA but I also found this insufferable lol. It was a book club read so I finished it though. First Lie Wins - loved it.
I'm at 90% for Zero Days and should finish it today. I think next up I have Pumpkin Spice Cafe, Done and Dusted, and Bad Blood.
I could also start A photo finish. We'll see. I wish I could just read all day everyday lol.

I'm listening to Creep by Jennifer Hillier and I'm almost done and still waiting for the twist or...something. it's been absolutely predictable so far and I'm disappointed.
I also am annoyed by the narrator, so that's not helping. I feel bad saying that but π¬

I really enjoyed Swan Song. No, it's not going to be a timeless classic that ages well (lots of pop culture references), but it was an enjoyable read. We picked this up at the local bookstore. I hope the book is as good as its cover/edges. I told DD that we need to put a halt on book buying and start making a Christmas list instead. She agreed to a one book purchase a month limit, lol.

I finished The Throne of Broken Gods last night. It was good and I'm looking forward to reading the third book in the series. It's going to wait a hot minute though because my hold on Worst Case Scenario came in and I want to start that today. I'll have to pair it with a bedtime romance because I can't imagine wanting to read that before falling asleep.

Uh oh. I donβt live in Broward County and surely only discovered this card via this forum. I know for sure I didnβt pay $38 for my card originally. Please donβt tell me Iβm going to lose access to yet another card I donβt rightfully have a claim to πππππ

Ask for Andrea was really good. Parts of the story were brutal, parts beautiful. It's available as a Kindle Prime loan.
