cnf , I'm curious as to what you thought of Powerless and Reckless. They've been getting a lot of hype but I was very annoyed with Reckless. I know it's YA but it still seemed idk, immature, to me. I always think you're talking about the romance series Chestnut Springs that has books by those names - but I finally figured out it was a fantasy series.
August was bad for me, I finished one book, DNF'd my book club book and just didn't really read the last 1.5 weeks.
I finished Big Swiss - 4 stars I DNF'd the Bee Sting - it was so long and wordy.
I have some graphic novels from the library I need to finish, the next one in the Dark Olympus series is also on hold for me now.

bearfootzcontinued I was surprised at how much I liked the Berry Pickers too. I only read it bc it was a featured book on the B&N window. I loved it. Pizzaslut I wound up really liking All the Colors of the Dark. It was so slow for the first 1/3 but I'm glad I stuck with it.

I didn't realize one of the characters would be battling cancer and as I was reading it, I was getting text updates about my sister's cancer progression. Ironically, I had just told my daughter that books don't often make me cry the way movies do - this one did, but I'm not mad about it. I have All of the Colors of the Dark on my TBR shelf, hopefully soon.

I'm not cnf, but I am almost done with Powerles and I am not loving it the way I have seen everyone else hyping it up. It is enjoyable enough, but there was some very obvious reference material. IDK if I will be jumping on the 2nd one any time soon with all of the things on my list.

I only finished 2 books in August. I, too, need to stop picking up my phone and mindlessly scrolling.
The Earl's Trip was very cute and I gave it 5 stars Throne of Glass was great and I enjoyed the world building
I was listening to Powerless, but it was due back at the library before I could finish it. So I picked up Crown of Midnight to read until it comes back in. Then, One Dark Window came in from my library, so I will take a break from Crown of Midnight (since I own it).
I'm reading Spookily Yours on my kindle (it was free) and it is not very good, but it is getting me into Spooky Season. I have hard copies of The September House and The Ninth House waiting for me at the library

Not my typical genre but it sounds like it's well loved so will give it a chance.

It reminds me of some of the paranormal/urban romances from the early 2010s that got me hooked on the genre and I generally like Ali Hazelwood's writing on top of it.

I only managed to read one full book in August, ha. It was King: A Life by Jonathan Eig. I gave it 5 stars but it was just very dense so it took me a long time to get through it and digest it. I started Demon of Unrest during August but haven't finished yet. I think September I will be reading more hah.

I enjoyed Powerless a lot, despite its obvious overlap with Hunger Games. Reckless was definitely not as good. It was significantly shorter and I feel like there was more that could have been done. I found it a bit boring in parts. I am looking forward to the final one though.

Here are some ideas for you: Crowns of Nyaxia series by Carissa Broadbent The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first in the series. It's a bit similar to the Shepherd King series. I only read the first one because these types of books aren't totally my taste but it was very easy to read and an enjoyable ride. Definitely worth a try.
Rampart Trilogy by M.R. Carey The Book of Koli is the first in the series. It's about a boy in a post-apocalyptic world and it starts in a very small setting and gradually opens up and becomes more and more engaging and exciting.
Zoey Ashe Series by Jason Pargin Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits is the first in the series. This seems to be one that people either love or hate. Personally, I loved it. It's a fun futuristic action series with an awesome protagonist and some actually thoughtful themes hidden behind the violence and over the top stuff. You'll know pretty early on if you enjoy it or not.
The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix Sabriel is the first in the series. Lirael and Abhorsen are the 2nd and 3rd- there are more prequels and additions but they are all awful. But the main trilogy is fantastic and although technically YA and older I do feel that it does hold up as an engaging fantasy series with interesting world building and characters.

I will second the Crowns of Nyaxia series, I read those so fast (there are two main books, plus one shorter novel that takes place in between). The next one is coming in November and I cannot wait.

I had been adding the books that I own to the Library Thing app, but realized I need to know what their average rating is, etc. so made a new bookshelf on Goodreads so I could add them there too.
I wish they could figure in the number of ratings vs. just the average rating. I don't care if it's 5* if only three people have reviewed it.
Also, I confess that sometimes I spend more time researching books than I do reading them. It's a different high.

I finished Just For The Summer. I like how all the other books in the series tied into it. She just puts too much inner dialogue in her books, and it sometimes drags the main characters into the βinsufferableβ category for me. Still a solid 4 stars βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ

I am halfway through the serpent and the wings of night. Iβm enjoying it so far.

I finished The Best Lies last night. Very good with twists and turns every chapter. That might be the best thriller Iβve read this year.
I started The God of the Woods and so far this seems like it will be another good one.

I finished The Astrology House yesterday. I could not put it down, 4.5 stars. (There are some trigger warnings relating to fertility, DM me if you need more info.)
On to Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth.
I also finished Poirot Investigates on audio - this was a collection of like ten or so short mysteries, not one big story. Next up on audio is The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. I also put a hold on an audiobook of Christie's And Then There Were None, even though I've read it a bunch already, because it's narrated by Dan Stevens. (Have the blinds ruined him? I can't remember.)

I just finished The Eyes are the Best Part by Monika Kim, that was a fun little gruesome book.
First book I've read by this author, I enjoyed her writing style. It was so quick and easy to read. I would read more of hers! Need to Google if she has any others

Swan Song pulled me right in. I'm only halfway through it but needed some distraction between tasks while at work too so started the Kindle version of Ask for Andrea. Guessing that's the opposite of the palette cleanser I should have gravitated towards.

I kind of feel like I'm reading the same book over and over again. I finished Throne of Glass, I'm 75% done with Powerless, and I am 25% into One Dark Window. Yes, they all have their unique spin, but they have such similar themes. I need to switch it up.

Agreed, the sequel was excellent. That duology was one of my recent favourites, it did take a while to get into the magic system but once I accepted that itβs about magical trading cards I was all in
