I've been wondering the same. It kinda makes me sad actually. I've been around 11 years, since the original bump days, so I've seen things go from a super active all the time, to almost all the major posters slowly fading away. It genuinely does bum me out that we've lost so many people over the years. It's quite a different, & slower place than it used to be.

It genuinely does bum me out that we've lost so many people over the years. It's quite a different, & slower place than it used to be. Yes! It doesn’t feel even a tiny bit like it used to, yes there were battles, but there was also a lot of general chat and entertaining (in a good way) threads. Now it feels like there’s barely anyone around anymore. |

1. school just started for most of us so end of summer/beginning of school
2. most of our kids are older now leading to less home time/down time in general
3. special interest boards are probably as busy or busier than ever (see: the last 6-7 weeks of weekly politics threads/any time a celeb or royal goes off the rails)
4. coming in here only sometimes with the name "the stranger" is going to send hackles up. If you lurk as much/as long as you say this should not be a surprise
5. if you want it to be busier, maybe work toward more than 36 posts

The start of the school year has been so, so busy. Something going on almost every evening too. And I've definitely been over on the politics board.

Summer and the beginning of the school year have always been slower. It's slower than it's been, but I think a lot of people are dealing with things like health issues (of themselves or loved ones), new jobs or changes in career, older kids, etc. Nothing stays static, even for the previously prolific posters.

In Fall update news, I tried to sign my kindergarten son up for boy Scouts and it turns out there's no way to do so unless I'm willing to be a scout leader. So now I have to be a boy scout leader and a Girl scout leader. I went to the first meeting and all the other dads with kindergarten sons were just staring at me when I was asking if anybody else wanted to step up and lead.
