Hello friends. I hope everyone here is doing well. 

It's been so slow, how about one of these to maybe get things going? Hell, let's fight, the dopamine will be good for all of us!

TFFC: I have registered for a firearm card. A family situation erupted this month that is scary and upsetting. The other party is armed. You all know me. I hate guns, I am deeply for gun reform. It's one of my biggest voting issues.

So the feelings of hypocrisy are tough to deal with. I mean, it's not. I am going about it legally, safely. I will be spending more on the safe than the weapon itself, I am already registered for classes, and my kids will not have any clue it's in the house.

But I hate it. I hate that when push came to shove, I went right where I said I never would.

UO: This is going to be niche for TT viewers. The underconsumption trend is as annoying a the overconsumption trend.Yes, the Sephora hauls, the TJ Maxx trips, and having an entire room of perfume and designer handbags are disgusting displays of consumerism and waste. But it's equally gross to be using far expired makeup and never replacing tattered linens.

Why are we as a society so incapable of balance? You don't need sixty-five mascaras and it's also ok to get your nails done. It's just nuts to me.

Part of gun reform is safe gun laws not to completely do away with it so you are not a hypocrite and I wouldn’t think twice about it if it meant my family was safe.

I haven't seen my husband and kids for 5 days and it's gone by really quickly and I'm a little sad that it's coming to an end soon. I feel like I could go on like this for a... while. I've never actually lived by myself and it's really quite nice.

I love this trend. It’s far overdue. I’m so sick of seeing the dozens of Stanley’s with all the accessories, fridge hauls where people decant all of the products into different containers, and the junk finds on Amazon and temu.

I love using everything I have until it’s literally falling apart and then finding another use for it.

There was a random Monday where Bagel was at day care, H was running errands, and the kids were at the pool and I just sat on my couch luxuriating in the idea that no one else was breathing the same air as me for five fucking minutes.

But it's predictably gone way too far the other way. It's ok to buy SOME things, especially for sanitary purposes like makeup or whatever.

I was assaulted by a neighbor last month at my local Walmart. The responding officer suggested that I carry mace with me and that I take a class for my conceal carry. I struggled with it too, but he explained that these classes also teach you who to defend yourself to use a firearm as your last line of defense. Side note, I am fine and as of yesterday I have an RO in place for four years.
ETA:my brother is going to help me get a firearm and safe with a biometric lock.

STP you’re not a hypocrite at all. My sister owns a gun, legally, and is all for tight gun control laws. TBH I think any good gun owners should be.

STP, I am also extremely pro-gun reform and I was formally very anti-gun. However, H has a gun that he purchased after a very scary incident we faced about a decade ago in our old house. He used to shoot competitively in high school, so he's extremely well versed in all things gun-safety and handling. But still, it freaked me out for a good while. But it sounds to me like you are making the decision for all of the right reasons and going about things in a very safe way.

I used to think I couldn't shoot someone, and that was the big reason I felt dead set against a firearm.

But frankly, without detail, if this person broke into my home...I would and could. It won't happen, they aren't that far gone I don't think. But now that I know what they are capable of and what they have done, I also know reason/discussion wouldn't get us to safety.

Also I want to be clear, we're fine. This person is NOT coming to my house. I'm not the focus of their ire or issue. They are not in this state or region. I have no reason to believe it would ever escalate to that point right now. But I am afraid of them, and in order to have access to other people I love in the situation, I also have to know it could bring this person unbidden into my orbit in the future. And I don't want to be starting this process then. Hopefully by then this will have calmed down, cooler heads, all that jazz and this will become moot.

I'm absolutely not going to entertain a man that won't add to my life, and there's a lot of people just putting their baggage out there. STP, I'm so fucking sorry that you are even in the situation. Being afraid of family is a special kind of terrifying.
treeofheaven how terrifying. I'm glad that you are arming yourself the best you can. I think that self-defense classes are so important (that is how I read the conceal carry class, like tools in addition to a firearm). Women are placed in so many uncomfortable and often scary situations that having the tools and the "practice" of how to respond in a calm manner and not just panic would serve us all.

Like - I could have given a detailed description of a trad wife but had no idea why that’s what they are called.

I did online dating for years before meeting DH (online). When I would get really frustrated with all of it I would entertain myself by sharing the really bad profiles with my friends. So many guys were clearly just listing off everything that pissed them off about their ex. I remember one guy who would edit his profile about once a week and include all of the things that annoyed him about the women that he was interacting with on the platform. He was also adamant that he didn't want a college educated woman because his mom didn't go to college and that was good enough for her.

OMG, I am never going to have sex again.  Sorry vagina, we had a solid 20-year run.  

Also, TFFC, I'm lonely and miss intimacy and that feels wildly inappropriate for only having lost my H 7 months ago.  Related TFFC, I have become OBSESSED with Love Island and watching all of these youths running around kissing anything that walks and getting "fanny flutters" makes me feel like I am so old that love and romance and first kisses and all of that are all behind me.

STP, your stance was made based on your beliefs as it should be, and also not being in a scenario where it was necessary for you and your family. Situations changed and after analyzing, you determined what is necessary, even though it is not what you would choose in another scenario.

That's not hypocrisy. You can still hold that stance and realize that there are scenarios where having a weapon becomes a choice that you may need to make.

But it's predictably gone way too far the other way. It's ok to buy SOME things, especially for sanitary purposes like makeup or whatever. 

It's also okay if you let running water do its thing instead of collecting rainwater to fill your toilet tank each time you flush.  

(And if you want to do the rainwater thing, that's fine too. But I don't think it has to be the standard.)

People who generally decant and keep up with their products tend to have less waste. They can see what they have and what they don't and buy accordingly.

Decanting does not mean they are not using what they have.
