Started The Veiled Kingdom yesterday and I read that and the second book, The Hunted Heir. I finished both and they were both just ok. But whatever. The next one comes out in March and I'll read it anyways. Not sure what I want to start next. Ugh. Highly recommend the From Blood and Ash series for fantasy! I think I may have said that though. Lots of SJM vibes. Going on the list!

My August count will be low too. Turns out when you're the one doing all of the driving on a road trip you don't get as much reading time in. I did finish The Beach at Summerly and really enjoyed it. Picked up By Any Other Name and that pulled me in pretty quick, though I know it's going to be a tough read. I had grabbed it at Target then went to Costco and could have gotten it cheaper there - ended up grabbing a couple of other options at Costco to add to my overflowing TBR bookshelf. Whoops. I just finished By Any Other Name last night. It was hard at times, but I loved it. ETA, don’t skip the authors note!

I’m almost finished with Stranger in the house. I think I’ve guessed the twist so now I want to read to see if I’m right.

My book club has been on a string of page to screen reads and we picked A discovery of Witches for October…I did not realize it was nearly 600 pages and over 23 hours for the audiobook 😱😱

Lol. I fly through them so I don't even notice how long they are. That is my only critique of The Cruel Prince books, they are too short, ha! I'm used to these fantasy books being obscene numbers of pages. It went too fast.

I haven't read them in at least a decade but it was another series that was easy to get through even if it was long.

Hit me with your new or favorite reads for fall! It is my favorite reading season and I like anything from cozy "cottagecore" to witchy to spooky and thrillers. I am not a huge fan of gothic, but include those if you know of a really good one. Please and thank you!

I didn't love Time's Convert and I am not super motivated to read her new one, but I am sure I will get to it eventually.

I felt the same way about Ghost Station - I had other issues with it too - but the end didn't quite work for me. I loved their first book Dead Silence, so I will definitely pick up whatever they write next, hopefully more sci-fi/horror blends! I agree, Dead Silence was definitely the better book, but I will also continue to read their stuff as it comes out. I'm curious what other qualms you had with the book? I will put it in spoilers, just in case anyone is thinking of reading it!
{Spoiler} I didn't like that they almost seemed to try to create a romantic vibe between Phe and the captain, it didn't fit. I found the pacing to be really off, it felt slow and too rushed at the same time. My horror heart also wanted more horror - it read like a thriller (which is not bad, just not what I expected).

Cackle, Black Sheep, The Return and Such Sharp Teeth are all great! And while they lean a little horror, I would also consider them cozy (ish)! She has a new one coming out called So Thirsty that I'm really looking forward to!

Wild is the Witch, The Nature of Witches and Bring Me Your Midnight. Another favorite I enjoyed is The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy. On my list to read this year is Payback's a Witch, A Witches Guide to Fake Dating a Demon, The Year of the Witching, and Practical Magic.

I had some BN gift cards to spend after my birthday and I picked up The Spellshop and If We Were Villians that fit this description. Oh, and The September House.

I finished All the Colors in the Dark last night. It was not what I was expecting. I didn't realize it spanned like 25 years. In some ways, I felt it dragged and in others, I wish there were more details. I was really frustrated with the MMC for most of it. I gave it 3.5 stars. Omg this is the slowest I have EVER read a book. I'm 33% through and cannot believe I have 400 pages left. Part of me wants to DNF but it was hyped up so much. I don't know.

There were parts I liked and the way he told a story was great and it does pick up. BUT I did not like how the story unfolded. One particular plot ruined it for me. It could’ve been so much better IMO

I might pick that up soon, especially because there is a TV series for it. Speaking of, I made a list of TV series to go with the books I have read with the intention of watching the series (but haven’t watched yet 😂). I started the TV series for Fool Me Once.

But I only paid $1.99 for the whole trilogy then, so I don’t feel too bad about leaving it for so long.

I finished Stanger in the house. I was half right and again the end was meh.
I love thrillers but don’t like 90% of the endings I think

It's just a long one though!
