I read the Shepherd King series by Rachel Gillig over the last few days and it was really good. The second one was even better than the first.
I was disappointed in Night Watching. I had high hopes but it dragged quite a bit.
I'm listening to The Forgetting right now, and it's interesting so far.

I just finished youthjuice by E.K. Sathue and that was a fun read. Kind of like a dark, murderous Mean Girls

I just saw an add for Netflix’s Uglies coming out next month, apparently based on the best selling YA/sci fi/dystopian novel. I’ve never heard of it. Worth a read?

I read The Uglies a lot of years ago. I really enjoyed it but that was when every other book was dystopian and I was a lot younger. I guess this will be the next series to blow up with the teen group though. Right now it’s Shatter Me. I guess that is going to be a TV show, too?

I finished If You See Me by Audra McElyea and it started off so good but ended up being really unbelievable and a bit dumb IMO. It had such good potential and I kept thinking “please don’t let the twist be what I think it is” and it was. Then I waited for something more, and nothing happened. Three stars from me.
I’m listening to The Arrangement by Kiersten Modglin and right now it’s just sex. I hope it picks up with the thriller part because I really don’t like listening to sex scenes.

I finished The Haters earlier this weekend and I don’t recommend it. It’s pretty bad which is ironic considering it’s a book about an author getting bad reviews but oh well.
Now I’m reading The Next Mrs. Parrish and it’s even worse. Not sure if I can even finish because I find the whole premise ridiculous and a bit enraging. We will see. Glad it’s a library read.
Next I’m switching gears with The Briar Club.

I finished The Arrangement and I’m so happy I did. I should never have doubted Kiersten Modglin. I’m excited to continue the series. I also started Sleeping Giants by Rene Denfeld and it’s good so far. Much slower pace.

After DNFing a couple of books I really thought I’d like, I’m about 25% into Weyward. It’s keeping my attention, and while I’m usually not good with multiple storylines, I’m interested to see how this all comes together.

I finished my reread of Powerless and have Reckless downloaded and ready to start today. It's a lot shorter so I should be able to whip through it pretty quickly.

I’m reading P&P for Austen August, and it’s going fast because I’ve read it so many times.
I finished The Jasad Heir, and I liked it a lot. I think it’s a debut author who wrote it while studying for the bar. 😳 The world building was a bit confusing, and there are a lot of characters, but I’m excited for the next in the series.

Last week, I took 3 books on vacation and had 3 downloaded. But with crappy weather, we weren’t able to sit on the beach much so I didn’t even finish the 2 I started. One day, both my girls and I were all reading on the beach together. Proud mom moment. 😉
I just finished The Summer Pact. Wasn’t my favorite Emily Griffin book. Hoping to get a few more read before back to work tomorrow.

I am halfway through Worst Case Scenario, and it’s so good. I love her writing. BUT I have to take breaks because it is so anxiety inducing.
I also started a new audiobook, after starting a stopping a couple that I just couldn’t mentally handle at the moment (In Cold Blood was one- just boring)- Sleepless in Manhattan. It’s very lighthearted, but a little ridiculous. These people have sex on the brain constantly lol. The writing is… okay. But it was available immediately on Libby, and it is one I can focus on right now.
My next hardback book will be Ruth Ware’s latest.

I am so excited for that book, I love her writing. But yes to the reading in chunks because of my gosh, anxiety.

I just finished Sleeping Giants by Rene Denfeld and it was so good. Lots of TW for child abuse and it was very hard to read at times. I love her writing though and weaving in the polar bear story with the main story was seamless. Definitely one of the best I’ve read this year.

I recently got back into some comics and graphic novels and have been enjoying those, some much more than others, but they fit great for the amount of time I have now during our summer holidays.
I also really enjoyed The Love of My Afterlife (from the great suggestion here) and A Sorceress Comes to Call by T Kingfisher which was a slightly dark retelling of the Brother's Grimm story The Goose Girl which I didn't know. I haven't loved T Kingfisher's most recent novels but I was hooked on this one and really enjoyed it. Except for her characterization of one of the main characters as basically ancient (tons of physical health problems, sees herself as an ugly ogre) even though she was only in her 50s which isn't old at all. But I think the author is young 30s and I guess 50 feels ancient to her LOL.
I also read Ninth Life by Stark Holbron which was a disappointment for me because I loved the first two in the series (Ten Low, Hel's Eight) sort of bad ass sci fi westerns and this one was told in Epistolary style and just didn't work for me at all.
But I have lots of books I'm excited to start on including the first of a new series by the author of the Expanse.

I had some downtime at a meeting yesterday and the default topic seemed to be the National Book Festival. Rebecca Yarros will be there signing books.

I'm halfway through Made for You and it's good, I've just hit a reading slump. Of course, I had a few physical holds come through as well as a handful of Libby loans - but nothing is jumping out at me.
Any recs for what to reach for first out of this stack? Real Americans How to end a love story The beach at Summerly The Hazelbourne ladies motorcycle and flying club Real Americans The Berry Pickers Inheritance

I finished Reckless and I'm so bummed I have to wait until April for the final book. Booooooo. It was slower than the first book, but still excellent.
I also finished Whisked Away by Melanie Summers. I'm going to pause this series and hit up some of my Libby holds I've been pushing out. I'm going to start Funny Story finally for my night time read. I was hoping to snag Worst Case Scenario for my daytime read, but it took all day for them to become available on any of my linked library cards in Libby and now the wait is really long. Gah. I don't know what to read next even though I have piles of options.

I finally finished Only One Survives and meh. The twist did get me but otherwise I wasn’t a fan. It does have many glowing reviews on Goodreads so this might be a me thing.
I’m reading The Best Lies by David Ellis now and am really enjoying it. It’s very twisty and has kept me guessing.

Although now I'm second guessing that decision because I'm not sure if I want to bring a library book with on vacation.

July was a slower month for me. I am starting to really love reading on my kobo though. I think it helps with getting distracted. The Thirst - Jo Nesbo Knife - Jo Nesbo Heir of Fire - Sarah J Maas Killing Moon - Jo Nesbo I'm finished with Jo Nesbo for now which is good, and am currently into Queen of Shadows and Off to the Races (Elsie Silver). Trying to read through my TBR shelf for now

I've finally had time to pop in here and add to my TBR! July was an ok month reading wise, I loved some books, and found others very meh.
Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes - 3* Blood on the Tide by Katee Robert - 5 * Fantasticland by Mike Bockoven - 2* Reckless (Chestnut Springs #4) by Elsie Silver - 5* and my favourite read The Cold Ever After by Jeremy Whitley - 3* (a sapphic Arthurian tale graphic novel) Tattered Stars by Catherine Cowles - 5* (and new to me romance author I want to read more of).
I am currently reading The Bee Sting by Paul Murray for my book club and am not loving it. It's over 600 pages and it is dragging. One of the sections is written without punctuation and it's driving me batty.

I finished Worst Case Scenario, and it is the most emotionally wrecked by a book I have been in a long time. I was finishing it when my girls were home from school and they kept glancing at me crying like wtf is happening lol.
