According to kindle, I have ~30 minutes left of Beautiful Little Fools and I am fully looking forward to finishing that tonight. If you're a Gatsby fan, I definitely recommend. But, I kind of wish I'd read Gatsby first as a refresher, it's been a while.

I’m so excited for the new Hunger Games book! DD will be, too. Haymitch is her favorite.

I kept waiting for the hanging city to get better but it never did. Not sure why it was one of the goodreads winners.
I finished one dark window in one day and now I’m working on the next one.

Ooh, I was just thinking of rereading Hunger Games! Watched the first movie with DD this weekend and was trying to talk up the books to her. All she wants to read are graphic novels though, which I know is still reading, but I'd love if she could commit to a book for more than 45 minutes.

I just watched the first movie with my girls this weekend too! My DD1 had started the first book but then accidentally spoiled the ending for herself by reading the back cover of the next one and then didn't want to finish it. She really liked the movie though so I'm hoping she will give it another chance. Or at least read the other books. I'm so excited for this new book!

I've read the original HG trilogy and would absolutely read a Haymitch backstory. Is the one about Snow worth a read? starrynight, I still remember the moment in Catching Fire when I read the part about the Quarter Quell and Katniss and Peeta would have to compete in the HG a year later and I actually shouted "OMG! WTF?!?" and woke up MH. I hope your daughter gives the series a go.

MelanieCarmichael, Ballads and Song Birds was not my favorite, but it provides context to the HG world that is important.

What are you picking for Amazon First Read this month? There are several that sound interesting. Debating between Sorry for the Inconvenience, Broken Bayou and The Last Time I Saw You. Sorry for the Inconvenience is a Mindy Kalig pick but while reviews say the memoir is hilarious it also says heartbreaking so might have to skip that for now. Yet somehow the mention of barrels full of bodies in Broken Bayou sounds ok.

I finished We Don't Swim Here by Vincent Tirado. I wanted to love it but I just didn't. The story was great and it was important, but the book itself fell flat to me, if that makes sense. I didn't get into any of the characters very much. So I don't really know how I'd rate it 😞
I also read 19 Claws and a Black Bird which is a collection of short stories. I enjoy short story books because if I'm not into one I can just move to the next. They were sufficiently creepy and disorienting but not too deep. Would recommend

I finished Beautiful Little Fools and I really enjoyed it. A solid 4.5 stars. I do wish I had read it after recently reading The Great Gatsby, or at least watching Gatsby. It's been a while.
I have Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter from the library, but my next week is so busy between the last week of school, Girl Scouts, and my sister's wedding, I need something mindless to pick up for ~10 minutes a day and doesn't take a bunch of brain power, so I grabbed a rom-com from Kindle Unlimited, Fake It 'til you Make It by Laura Carter.

They both look good!

I finished two Freida McFadden books this week, The Coworker and Do Not Disturb (audio). They were both fine - I found The Coworker to be more predictable than Do Not Disturb. DND has obvious Bates Motel/Psycho influence, but I admit I didn't see the twist. I've been trying to start Will of the Many the past few days and just been too focused on other things, so hoping to start getting into that today.

But the movie introduced me to Rachel Zegler for the first time and she’s now on my celebrity crush list. 😍 She’s too young for me but damn she’s beautiful and her voice is amazing. I wish she had her own solo stuff.

Currently reading Delicate Condition which is apparently what the latest AHS with Kim K was based on? I had no idea it was based on a book. I saw it recommended and started reading and was like, this is very familiar 🤣
The series stayed really close to the book for a little bit but I heard the ending is way different so we will see. So far enjoying the book way more (which isn't unusual in general)

I think I loved Yours Truly even more than Part of Your World. I realized I never really gave a review of Funeral Ladies of Ellerie County. I wanted to like it more than I did but there were too many things that bothered me. One minute it would be "this small town has the best support system ever and no one is ever alone in their struggles" and within paragraphs it was "woe is me, I'm so alone" without any explanation for the change in outlook. The casual drunk driving references didn't sit right with me either.

I finished The Return of Ellie Black. I loved it. Good paced and well written suspense novel. Sad and a bit too realistic in the messaging but still very good.

I finished Sign Here by Claudia Lux and it was a pretty solid read - part family drama/part supernatural thriller. I flew through it once I got to a certain point, and even if certain things didn't work for me (I needed a few things explained more/character choices) I still had fun with it and would recommend it.

MelanieCarmichael, Ballads and Song Birds was not my favorite, but it provides context to the HG world that is important. Agreed. It was decent but not as captivating as the original trilogy but it does an excellent job of world building and filling in some plot details from the original trilogy. I’ve wanted to see the movie since it came out but it’s not on any of the four thousand streaming services we have.

I finished Delicate Condition. So much better than the series! I don't actually even understand why they changed what they did 😒 The book is so, so much better. Had one of those endings that made me want to go back to the beginning and read again with a different perspective haha

A very real NOT THANK YOU to all of you who recommended The Women because this book is too good, and too sad, and I have used a Costco sized pack of tissues while listening to it!😘

I haven’t read and of her other fiction yet.

I rarely read new releases, but I just requested All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker. A podcaster talked about it, and it sounds like a good suspense/mystery.
