I started and stopped so many books in May. I was so so busy between work and the kids and I’ve been exhausted. When I get home, I literally disassociate watching TikTok until I pass out (usually 5 min later). Same for me. I read three of the everflame series but that’s it. I started and gave up on so many others that I’ll return to later. I started the hanging city based on goodreads and it’s ok so far. Instead of fae it’s trolls. Not sure how I feel about a troll/human love story but I’m in it for the ride.

May was a crazy month for me (making up for my slump in February, clearly):
Labyrinth's Heart (Rook & Rose #3) by M.A. Carrick - 4 stars On a Quiet Street by Seraphina Nova Glass - 3.5 stars (audio) Broken Throne by Victoria Aveyard -3 stars - five novellas for the Red Queen series - shockingly my favorite was the one that didn't use any characters from the original series White Horse Black Nights (Godkissed Bride #1) by Evie Marceau - 3.5 stars (audio) Everyone in my Family has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson - 3.5 stars A Curious Beginning (Veronica Speedwell #1) by Deanna Raybourn - 3.5 stars Silver Wings Golden Games (Godkissed Bride #2) by Evie Marceau - 3 stars One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig - 5 stars A Perilous Undertaking (Veronica Speedwell #2) by Deanna Rabybourn - 3.5 stars Serpent & the Wings of Night (Crowns of Nyaxia #1) by Carissa Broadbent - 4 stars Six Scorched Roses (Crowns of Nyaxia #1.5) by Carissa Broadbent - 4 stars A Treacherous Curse (Veronica Speedwell #3) by Deanna Raybourn - 4 stars The Family Secret by Kiersten Modglin - 2.5 stars (audio) A Dangerous Collaboration (Veronica Speedwell #4) by Deanna Raybourn - 4 stars
I'm getting The Will of the Many back from the library today, I got it months ago but ran out of time to read it before it was due back. I've heard really good things, so looking forward to starting that.

I had a theme this month...either Sarah Maas or Kristin Hannah for the most part, haha. They were all 4 or 5 stars so honestly hard to pick a favorite, but probably would be The Great Alone.

And I posted at the end of the May thread but posting my spoiler thoughts from the final CC here so anyone can discuss with me lol. I saw marygracerich commented. Tagging cakewench and emma too. Spoilers for TOG, CC and ACOTAR 1. So Lidia is a descendant of Aelin and Rowan, right? From her father's side. Based on her naming her son after Brannon and her gift of insane fire. Her attitude also seems very Aelin-esque lol. I wonder if her mom Hecuba was a descendant of the Crochan clan and/or Manon. I have seen theories that Midgard was the same planet that had Erilea and the other continents before it was taken over by the Asteri. Obviously it is either that or descendants from that world traveled to Midgard when portals were opened. I also have seen theories that Aelin fell through time which is why she saw Rhysand and Feyre and they saw her, because clearly the ACOTAR timeline and CC timelines are the same....but TOG seems to take place far in the past. 2. I am trying to figure out who the Under King was but it seems likely that he was also part of the Erilea world right? Based on what he said? 3. It seems likely that Rhysand and Ruhn are distantly related given that Bryce remarked on the similarities between their appearance -- and also their ability to mind speak and wield shadows. 4. I was really hoping that somehow Bryce would recruit the ACOTAR characters to help fight with them even though I understood why she didn't. It would have just been a fun crossover event. I suppose it would have made it too easy though, since that world was able to defeat them before based on how strong their magic is. 5. There is another ACOTAR book coming out, right? They set it up perfectly with giving Nesta the Mask back and Bryce telling her to find out why she has the same star on her. I'm curious about what you said marygracerich about even more connections. I was trying to figure out if the Asteri were from the Valg planet originally? Based on the fact that Vesperus had black blood when she died.

Has anyone read One Perfect Couple? I’m 80% in right now. I’ve mostly enjoyed it. If nothing else, it was a quick read for me since I started it yesterday.

I actually liked it more than I expected based on them. But you’re definitely not alone if you’re not into it!

I just finished Darling Girls. Reviews seem mixed but I think this was the best thriller I’ve read in awhile. It kept my attention the whole time and I finished it in two days. Definitely recommend plus it’s on Kindle Unlimited right now.

I read 9 books in May. I started the month flying but then life got crazy and I only read a couple of books during the two weeks.
My favorites were The Frozen River and The Return of Ellie Black. The only real miss for me was The Other Side of Disappearing, which was such a slog for me. She did so much telling rather than showing and the characters had zero personality traits beyond their respective traumas. And I hate the insta love trope.
I had 5 library books come in in the past couple of days so I’m trying to get caught up. Almost done with The Perfect Couple and I thought it was fairly entertaining.

I finished Dark Harmony. The ending was sort of forced but it wasn’t too bad. I’m glad the conclusion was the way it was despite being forced. I am starting my fourth wing and iron flame re-read. I am thinking about picking up Powerless and/or Touch of Darkness. Would highly recommend Powerless! It's very Hunger Games adjacent, but excellent. The next one comes out in July too, so you wouldn't have a long wait on it if you liked it and wanted to continue the series.

May was so stupid busy that I only got through four books (which is not great for me), but really enjoyed 3/4 of them.
My reads were: -Immortal Pleasures by V. Castro 3* -Powerless by Elsie Silver 5* (#3 in Chestnut Springs series - I love it so much). -Welcome to your Body edited by Ryan Ketterer - 4.5* -Weyward by Emilia Hart - 5*
I am currently reading Last Days by Brian Evanson and Sign Here by Claudia Lux for a buddy read. We're still very busy with DS's softball team, so I don't see me reading much in June.

I almost wish I had read it in fall because of the vibes of it all - but I still loved reading it on a rainy spring day. It was a good blend of heavy, cozy and slightly magical.

I was trying to figure out if the Asteri were from the Valg planet originally? Based on the fact that Vesperus had black blood when she died. Hi! For whatever reason tapa is not giving me notifications right now. I am going to attempt to spoiler what I know and my theories. you are correct about Lidia. Not only did she name her kid after Brannon, but she has the same red ring that Aelin had. When she is Agent day, Ruhn sees her covered in fire. There is also the white stag connection.
The shifters in CC do basically the same thing as the shifters in ToG.
Rhys and Ruhn are definitely related. How exactly is unclear. I am theorizing that maybe Cormac and Mor are also related. They have similar-ish coloring and are both cousins to Ruhn and Rhys. This is purely my opinion BUT I am wondering if it has to do with the dusk court. The prison in acotar has the same mist around it that Avellan has around it. Rhys said he thinks that the prison was once another court. Danika discovered “Project Dusk” in CC. I think it’s all the connected. I think maybe way back when, either Rhys or Mor’s ancestors ruled the dusk court and they just combined into the night court when the dusk court fell. I would guess that happened around the time the Daglan/Asteri tried to take over Prythian.
This is a wild theory BUT I think that Fury Axtar and Amren are related. Both have that straight dark hair in a similar cut. Thanatos is mentioned in acowar. Keir says Thanatos is having trouble with one of his daughters…my guess is that it’s Fury. In mythology Thanatos rules part of the underworld. In CC he is a prince of Hel. In mythology the three Furies are not the children of Thanatos but work closely with him. They are there to exact vengeance and such for the underworld against those who do wrong. Fury is an assassin and does essentially the same thing. Why can the Asteri not even control her? Is it because she is a daughter of Hel? When Amren is released in acowar she slaughters all that are “on the wrong side of right.” It’s very Angel of death sort of situation. SJM has already said that Amren is a sort of fallen angel. Fury’s gun has a set of angel wings on it. Is she a fallen angel as well? Are she and Amren both daughters of Thanatos (or at least closely related.) SJM loves things in 3s. There are 3 furies in mythology. There are 3 main series. Is there someone I am missing as part of that trio in ToG? Maybe. I have to re-read it because I remember very little. Fun little added SJM Easter egg..in mythology Thanatos is the child of Nyx and Erebus which are night and darkness.
There will be another acotar book. I think Bryce will be involved in it somehow since she can walk through worlds. Aelin also has that ability when she sees Rhys and Feyre when she goes through the Wrydgate in Kingdom of Ash. The wyrdgates are absolutely the same gates that Bryce goes through to get to Prythian.
I think they are setting Rhys up to be the high king of Prythian. There is no reason they should mention so often that Rhys is the most powerful high lord in Prythian without it going anywhere. Generally SJM doesn’t do things just because. Most of what she writes has a purpose. I think Bryce will help make that happen at some point. Don’t know how but that’s my theory.
The only thing I cannot for sure decide is whether or not the three series are simultaneous OR if going through the gates makes them travel through space AND time. Like are all three series going on at the same time just in different worlds? I think it’s more of a time and different world thing because Lidia would have to be in Aelin’s bloodline and if they are at the same time, that wouldn’t work.
I am sure I have more but it’s 10:30 at night and my brain is mush.

Why did I wait so long to jump on the Abby Jimenez bandwagon? Half way through Yours Truly and I'm in love.

Can I ask for a rec in here? I'm wanting to gift my current coworkers books when I leave since we're all readers. One of them, I'm stumped.
She typically reads for escapism. Not into super steamy romance. Just lost her mom, so I'm trying to avoid books with a parent death. She has BOTM so I'm probably looking for something pretty new. Ideas?

Are you set on a book or would a gift card to a local bookshop, or book themed item work? Like a book light or a fun tote? For books - The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club or Swan Song might be good, though I've read neither.

Usually romance, contemporary lit, etc. I was looking at the newest Abby Jimenez, but there's a content warning on Storygraph for death of a parent. I think I'll look at Etsy for personalized bookmarks in case nothing awesome jumps out at me.
