So I'm not surprised it was Kevin but was actually expecting it to be Janusz after the showstoppers. I thought flavor would beat out look. I almost added a 'Thank you, First Name Last Name' after this post because I have done nothing but send emails all day today. I basically felt the same, but sometimes history wins out for the judges. I not only want pistachio ice cream, but a bowl of crème’s flakes with a floating island. Maybe I can find a good dairy free recipe…

Kevin assembling his showstopper is spiking my anxiety on his behalf. He is shaking as much as his custard, poor guy.

It’s too bad Kevin’s cake gateau didn’t hold up, what with Paul and Prue fawning over the flavor!
His exit interview got me verklempt.
I also thought Janusz might’ve been in trouble there! He squeaked by.

I missed Abdul’s signature bake. I need to go back and watch to see how he did. With the caveat that I missed that part, I was surprised they went with Kevin over him, after Kevin got complimented on his flavor in the showstopper. Abdul seems to be skating by a bit, plus he missed the week when he and Rebs were out (it still doesn’t seem quite fair that they didn’t have to make it up?) Even MH (who pays zero attention to this show) commented that his showstopper seemed so much less ambitious than the rest.
Poor Sandro, lol. Give the man Star Baker already!
Janusz’s poor face when Paul said “wallpaper paste.” That was way harsh, Tai.

I really don’t get how Sandro lost star baker… he had the #1 technical to Syabira’s last place finish. His show stopper wasn’t perfect, but it was incredibly impressive. And I think they both did fine on the signature? I guess there was a more significant quality difference on the first and last challenge than came through to me.
I’ll miss Kevin, he was lovely and fun to watch even if he was consistently outclassed. I think that was definitely the judges taking his and Janusz’s historical performance into account.

I’m tired of the drip cakes as well. I feel like if Sandro gets a star baker at this point it will feel like a token star baker. ‘We’d better give him star baker because he’s the only one who hasn’t had one yet!’ IMO this should have been his week. His ice cream was perfection.

I agree that Sandro should have gotten it. I know Syabira made a perfect showstopper but Sandro was basically the only one with edible ice cream! And he did well too.
I wasn’t surprised Kevin left. I like when they use historical performance in consideration TBH.

[No spoilers]
I've just watched Pastry Week, and I'm sad about who left, but I like all of them, and wouldn't be happy with any of them leaving.
It's really anybody's game at this point - there have been a couple who started out really strong, but they have fallen down a bit. And others who were a bit blah in the beginning are getting stronger.
I just felt so bad for Abdul who got oil splatters on his top from the technical and then had to wear that top again on Sunday!

I am once again surprised and not surprised. The person who left obviously had a bad week but I thought with history they would be safe and another person would go.

Just finished Pastry Week! The baker I thought had done just well enough in recent weeks had a good day in the tent and someone I might've expected to do well was sent home, and so it goes. Hard to see anyone go home from top 5 onward, I like all of them!

Yeah, I disagree with who was sent home, but honestly I think I could have sent 3 of them home and the final outcome wouldn’t change.

I think it made sense that she left based on the week she had. Sandro got first in technical and the flavor of his signature was really good so I see why he was safe over her.

Paul was out for blood this week. Normally I don’t like it when he’s really critical, but honestly, none of these bakers would still be standing in many previous seasons (except for Syabira). I like my reality TV 99% warm and fuzzy, but his criticisms felt like they fell into the category of “harsh but fair” and this crew needs it.
I’m sad about the person who went home, probably my favorite in terms of personality. But it was a bad week, a fair decision I think.

Will any of you be watching The Big Brunch on HBO, hosted by Dan Levy? The first 3 episodes have come out - I plan to watch this weekend if I can.

Wow, did not expect for that person to go home. I really thought it would be the other person that was in the bottom.

I’m not surprised, they haven’t been doing well the last couple episodes with a few shining moments here and there.

Overall, the showstoppers turned out better than I expected. It felt like they were mostly, finally, bringing some polished works to the judges.
