addymac, she didn’t, but she also knows how cautious we’ve been and have kept him after prior trips to ER with him. I get she wasn’t thinking about it as his bs was over 600. Except for this time, we usually get a family text each time he has to go to the hospital.

My mom and little sister are getting their first doses today! Both are really nervous and keep calling/texting me to help calm down. I know people have thoughts and feelings on those not vaccinated yet, but they have medical anxiety (so do I) and don’t push any anti vax agenda or anything like that. I’m happy they’ll be more protected and so will those around them. (They both recently got jobs after being laid off for a year!) I hope it goes super smoothly for them and they have providers who are sensitive to their feelings!

I got called this afternoon to pick up my DD (3). She was exposed on Tuesday night at school. So, she's now in quarantine - 10 days from Tuesday? Right?
It was her friend. I don't remember them actually playing close to each other, so I think our risk is really low. I chatted with her mom tonight (who is also positive) and she didn't recall them being near each other either.

The school nurse gave us a binax to do on Tuesday and Thursday. I also scheduled her for a PCR on Monday. If she's negative on the PCR we can go ahead with the assumption she's in the clear? We still have to keep her home all next week from school though.
I hate this. I felt so awful picking her up yesterday. I got to school really quick - like I surprised the nurse with how fast I was and my daughter was so upset that she didn't get to play on the playground, it broke my heart. It's a stupid thing for me to be so upset about but just thinking about it now has me tearing up, which is so weird for me.

It's all so unfair and our littles don't totally grasp the magnitude of it all. All they know is they get pulled from normal over something they can't see or control. I'm sorry. I hope she stays covid free.

fatpony, I wish I could answer that. Does your pediatrician’s office have a covid line? That is who I called yesterday, but I was asking more about symptoms in a little one (3yo). She said they are seeing more GI (diarrhea & throwing up) isn’t hat age, but change in snot (he is already battling allergies), cough, any complains of hurting or ouchy body parts, temp 101.2 (I think), change in sleep. She also gave me this state website which has visuals, maybe it can help you too. The main site is pretty bland, but the search seems helpful. nalhd.org/covid-19/more-information.html

Here’s to hoping she stays covid free, fatpony.
Also, this site is acting weird for me this morning when I try and post.

I'm super annoyed. I just emailed the school nurse, asking if we still needed to do the Binax test they sent home since we got DD PCR tested this morning (Within the 5-7 days of exposure CDC and MNDH says to do) and she said we still have to test her tomorrow, because the first test has to be tomorrow. DNW to do the Binax tests on her.

Or console her with a treat after getting the sample?

I could see the article - thanks for sharing. Interesting to read about the logistical challenges, especially the 100 dose packaging. I hope they're able to figure something out about using pediatric practices to the greatest extent possible; I can imagine a lot of parents would be more comfortable going there for the real littles, but I also see the logistical issues.
I know my county has said they'll have the mass site reactivated for both adult boosters and the littles' shots. They got good demand last year, to the point their supply didn't match the demand - and hopefully this time demand and supply will match much better.

Not sure this will show up, but the NYT's David Leonhardt in the Morning Newsletter had an article that might lend some comfort regarding those who delay a bit in vaccinating their otherwise healthy little ones. Myself, I'd go ahead with vaccination right away, but this article made me think a bit. .... Vaccinate the kids? The more encouraging half of the story is on the other end of the age spectrum. For children without a serious medical condition, the danger of severe Covid is so low as to be difficult to quantify. For children with such a condition, the danger is higher but still lower than many people believe. The risk of long Covid among children — a source of fear among many parents — also appears to be very low. www.nytimes.com/2021/10/12/briefing/covid-age-risk-infection-vaccine.html

I'm vaccinating my children ASAP as much for my mental health as for their physical health. I have no qualms about admitting that.

PDQ
So I have to go away to staff a work conference next week. We are not requiring vaccinations, tests, or even masks. It's in Arizona.
I have made the decision that I am not coming home after and instead going to quarantine at my parent's house (they have a room where I would be able to stay in with a bathroom attached). My parents are both fully vaccinated and my mom said she will just leave food for me at my door. I can't risk bringing something home to DS1 when it is so close to vaccination time.
Unfortunately, this means I will celebrate his birthday with him over zoom.

M took a tumble at school and got a bloody nose; he's totally fine. But the Enro mask he was wearing is not. *pours one out*

And because (maybe unfounded?): It still lowers the risk of catching covid, and therefore of spreading covid Is that correct or has that not been shown? Or do I have to wait until the 26th to know that?
