Just got my 3 girls on our pediatrician’s waitlist for covid vaccine clinic! They’re planning clinics scheduled for November 5th and 6th but have to wait until the official ok to schedule appointments.

Does anyone know if CVS/Walgreen's/Rite Aid etc will be doing vaccines for 5-11? I realize they aren't approved yet, but if anyone has any insider info, I'd love to know where to start obsessively refreshing if/when news drops. Hahaha. I like our pediatrician, but I don't think they're going to be super fast with getting them/scheduling them. Our department of health has said that all pharmacies like CVS/Walgreens will give kids shots. I know the pharmacies are part of the federal distribution plan, so I would think that would be true nationally. thank you! This is all I'm thinking about this week, I hope that it is soon.

24 hours out from my Moderna booster and I only have a sore arm. I'm pleased.

Just back from my Moderna booster at Walgreens. They asked you to check in 15 minutes before your appointment, and that you stay for 15 minutes. They seemed very organized while I was there - that location does drive through COVID testing along with regular old prescriptions and vaccinations.

And thats with az more rural, all spread out, way less population density.
Meanwhile governor still fighting against mask and vaccine mandates.
Sigh

What do people think of the 50μg kids' dosage for Moderna? That's five times the Pfizer dose. Heck, that's bigger than the adult dosing of Pfizer. If given the option, would you rather have that for your children? Or would you be more comfortable with the lower dose.

In my very non-scientific opinion, I'm assuming we'll see similar data to the adult studies. The higher dose is likely to be slightly more effective long(ish) term, but has more side effects. Pfizer seems very focused on the smallest dose that gives a good amount of protection in hopes of minimizing side effects. I would be glad to give my children either. I very much hope to jab my remaining child (who is 6) ASAP so that's likely going to be Pfizer. This assumes we get the FDA go-ahead on Pfizer ASAP. FWIW, MH and I both got Moderna (including a full-fledged 3rd dose, not the current 1/2 one) and my teenagers got Pfizer.

I checked the pediatrician's portal, and they've set up all the infrastructure for scheduling kids' vaccine appointments. LET'S GO! Same. DS has a tentative appointment for Nov 10th. 😭

I would be getting the kids whichever is available first, which would be Pfizer, but regardless of the timing I think I would be comfortable with the lower dose for the kids, given that most kids tend to have milder cases anyway. Plus, I would prefer less side effects, especially since they'll need to go back for a second dose.

I’m really jealous of your tentative appts with your ped groups. Looking at you KP. Org still stating they are hoping to have the green light early November and then will need state supplies. I would really like to be able to get DD that first Friday so she could have sons immunity before our DL trip. If nothing else, I want to know that they will have them for sure by her wellness visit the 3rd week of Nov.

Our ped is a solo practice and she is on her way to retirement with reduced hours, so we'll be waiting for a pharmacy/mass vax site.

We had the twins 18 month appt a bit late in the month today and I asked the pediatrician what she knew about shots and availability at their clinic. Apparently they haven't heard anything other than they will be giving the shots and they will get the process started after the CDC green lights it. She has young kids herself so she is in the same boat, waiting to hear more. From the way she described it though, I may end up finding a community clinic or pharmacy if they are available sooner. I need that first shot in my 5yo's arm ASAP. Mostly to just quell my own mental health. He can make it a couple more weeks without getting sick, please please please.

DD2 came down with a stuffy nose overnight (woke her up several times, poor thing), no fever or sore throat, and her @home was negative, but I just brought her to get a PCR. I think this is the worst cold she's endured since March 2020. Pretty impressed she made it to week 10 of K!

Whitmer announced today they pre-ordered something like 287k Pfizer vaccines for 5-11 age group. That seems... extraordinarily low. Worried now about how much longer it will be before dd2 can get vaccinated.
Me, dh, and dd1 get our boosters tomorrow, though.

Now I just need to figure out where the hell to get one for my 8 year old. I have a feeling my pediatricians office's phone is ringing off the hook right now.
