DS and I had our first Covid tests today. Both came back negative! I think it’s just a cold home from school, but I’m more than 39 weeks pregnant, so fuck allll of this. We haven’t been sick this entire pandemic and now is the time it happens? 😒 I’m glad it’s not Covid but I feel like crap and have two sick LO’s. I’ve now changed gears and hope baby stays in until we’re feeling better. Anyone been sick when they delivered? I don’t want a sniffly newborn. Ugh. Feel better! FWIW, I had colds when my younger two were born. Neither got sick.

I moved my kids "flu shot but hopefully actually Pfizer shot instead" appointments to Mon, Nov 8th. Hopefully that will get us in the door when they have the kids formulation available to give out.

I got Moderna booster after J&J today.
It was quite interesting getting a vaccine at Walgreens for the first time. I usually wait for the state run operations since they are drive thru, but they haven't started those yet for boosters.
One odd thing was the pharmacist's mom was there maskless. She was introducing her to a regular customer in line ahead of me for her booster. Regular customer had just shared with me that she was 87.
We have an indoor mask mandate, so that all felt like the twilight zone. I also don't get out much these days.

One of our happy masks went through the washing machine (but not dryer). Is it toast?

Moderna says it has good data re vaccination for 6-11 year olds; data to be submitted to regulators. excerpt Moderna says a study in kids 6 to 11 found two doses of the company's COVID-19 vaccine given 28 days apart produced a strong antibody response. The study, conducted in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health, used shots containing a 50 microgram dose of the vaccine, half the dose of the Moderna shots authorized for adults. More than 4,700 children ages 5 to 11 took part in the study. www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/10/25/1048972990/moderna-covid-vaccine-children-6-11

anecdote - receptionist at my dentist office and her husband got Moderna boosters Saturday. She said both were a little achey and tired Sunday but not bad, and nothing like their reaction to their second Moderna shots. I'm scheduled for my Moderna booster tomorrow and hope the worst side effect is sitting around and watching Hallmark Christmas movies on Wednesday.

I'm sure I'm probably overthinking this, but if you got Moderna, are you getting the Pfizer booster or sticking with Moderna? Or does it matter? I'm definitely getting a booster when I'm eligible in a couple of weeks since I have such a crappy medical history. I'm hoping 5-11 will be approved by then so DD and I can get it together.

H and I both got J&J, and he just signed up for his booster later this week. I'll wait until next week, just to space out the reactions in case one of us (likely me based on last time lol) winds up knocked down. He's getting Moderna, hopefully I'll be able to get the same.
ETA: I'm next week, also Moderna! Yay!

H got a letter from his doctor that they see he hasn't gotten his shot and should get in for it. He got vaxxed in Feb at work. So obviously the sharing of info between orgs is going great.

There is slight evidence that a Pfizer booster is more effective, but I think you are very fine with either option.

I had Pfizer and I’m opting to get boosted with Moderna. I based my decision on data from Your Local Epidemiologist. I think the difference between the two mRNA vaccines is marginal, but Moderna seemed to retain more effectiveness against Delta over time and provided a little extra benefit as a booster to Pfizer. yourlocalepidemiologist.substack.com/p/mixing-vaccines-the-study-weve-all

PDQ I had a small dinner planned with our mayor for Wednesday with my local liberal moms group to discuss how we could become more involved locally. Everyone had been vaxxed and it’s a pretty cautious group (considering, Texas). Well two of the people going tested positive for Covid and they were all at an outdoor event this weekend. So we have to cancel. I’m so over Covid, y’all!

I'm sorry Dr. Cox, it truly sucks that we still find ourselves in the thick of it all after all this time.

I checked the pediatrician's portal, and they've set up all the infrastructure for scheduling kids' vaccine appointments. LET'S GO!

Does anyone know if CVS/Walgreen's/Rite Aid etc will be doing vaccines for 5-11? I realize they aren't approved yet, but if anyone has any insider info, I'd love to know where to start obsessively refreshing if/when news drops. Hahaha. I like our pediatrician, but I don't think they're going to be super fast with getting them/scheduling them.

Our department of health has said that all pharmacies like CVS/Walgreens will give kids shots. I know the pharmacies are part of the federal distribution plan, so I would think that would be true nationally.
