I just read a thing about parents lying about kid’s ages to get them vaxxed. It was brought up that the information (with DOB) has to be input so at some point that gets caught and then their vaccination records are off. The other thing is they are still figuring out dosing with younger kids, so it’s not something you would want to mess around with. I get the anxiety and the eagerness to get kids vaxxed, I really do. But there were a number of good points about why it’s not a great idea.

I’m starting to get a little worried again, the numbers are rising here, no one is wearing masks anymore and we just had a vaccinated friend get COVID. I’m less worried about me since I’ve been vaccinated, but I don’t want my kids to get sick. They are in camp, but it’s all outdoors. I think we’re going to start avoiding larger gatherings with the kids.
We were invited to a get together yesterday that we were told was just us and MH’s two cousins and their families (all vaccinated) but it ended up being 60ish people and I’m not super happy about it.

CDC said winter. But my pedi girlfriend and a few doctors I follow on TikTok said they expect early fall and the under 5 group in winter.
I’ll take the average and hope before Thanksgiving?

My kid started sneezing, runny nose and congestion yesterday. In before times, I would have sent to daycare. In post-covid-pre-delta times, I would have sent to daycare. In this post-delta time? I have no idea what the fuck to do and no one will help me make a clear decision. So my kid is at home. She shattered a glass bowl and has drawn on the coffee table with sparkle markers while I try to work. The pediatrician only said to test for known exposure, school requirement or non-vaccinated parents. Is that still relevant with delta around? Gah. I’m aggravated because I’m trying to do right. Here, in California, if your kid so much as needs a tissue they are sent home and need no sign of any drip or sneeze or cough of any kind before they are accepted back. Upon their return to school or daycare they are inspected with a fine tooth comb for any sign of anything that could be a "symptom". I had to take a week off work because my kid used a tissue. I work in education though, so I see both sides.

Our district has already eliminated the option of remote schooling for the coming school year. They have also removed the mask requirement. I let me 2nd grader know that Mom Law trumps everything and she will be wearing a mask since she hasn't gotten vaccinated(we have, she just isn't old enough yet). She hasn't been in school since the middle of her kindergarten year, I'm hoping the mask will also help prevent colds, flus, and other germs from invading our household as well.

For us, we did a whole risk/benefit calculation. DS1 is turning 12 in 3.5 weeks. At the time we got him vaccinated, he was 9 weeks shy of 12. We live in an area with really great numbers, but he's at sleep away camp this week in the central part of the state and we just had no idea what to expect in terms of vaccination rates for the other campers and their families. Rather than cancel the camp, given how close he was to 12, we opted to go the route that we did.
Not arguing, just giving context. I understand all the reasons why it's not a good idea.

Our area is doing really well but I am still worried. I am also super pissed at the non-vaxers and that the vaccine for kids won't be until mid-winter now. I just want my kid to have a normal school year.

CDC/FDA did say this. Word in my circle is though that it may be earlier. My Pfizer guy says the research is done and they’re making sure everything is airtight now. I haven’t been told anything official yet, just that we should be ready to go because when the announcement comes it’ll probably be like with the 12-15 yos when they said they hoped to release it by fall but then ended up with that age group being early summer. Do you know what age ranges they trialed? I got an email from Pfizer two weeks ago saying trials were complete and they didn't anticipate any further trials. I'm nervous they might have only tested in kids at the higher end of the under 12 age range, and I'm mentally preparing myself for an even longer wait for my kids (oldest is 6). Everything I know is third hand so take it with a grain of salt, but I was told they were experimenting with doses for 5-12s and then under 5s. I don’t know if that means that both age groups are going to be released at once or not. I know that the age group we are preparing for is 5-12, but also that is because the Pfizer guy said they’ll be encouraging people to have 6-59 mos to be vaxxed in their pediatrician’s office and not at a mass vax site. So that has been our main focus as far as supplies and vaccinator qualifications.

hawkward, what your guy said, my ped also said. At our recent 18 month visit I asked out of curiosity. They don't have doses for patients on hand yet but expect them by time for the under 5s. He said obviously it's not ideal to take a 2yo to stand in line at the health department like I did.

An elderly family friend who had covid, survived, and got the shot, has covid again (someone brought it to him, he has caregivers in his home). That was sobering and I am acting like I don't have the vaccine right now, procedure wise. Who are you?

I've gotten comfortable having DS in school and camps. We've asked him to still wear a mask indoors at summer camp, but as of July 1, it's not mandated. Most kids don't wear masks and I don't get it at all.
We're not super social by nature, but I've really loosened up on masking outdoors for him. We've done playdates and playground visits without masks.
We continue to skip anything indoors with DS, other than running some errands or visiting vaccinated family.

STP The last time I talked to my Pfizer guy, I felt way better with everything he had to say. I call him my human Lexapro.

I’m also holding out hope for getting the kids vaccinated in September. We’ve been told to start preparing for younger kids, and we were told that a few weeks before the 12-15 age group was announced. This is interesting to read because I just read to expect kids vax in early to mid winter, which deflated me.

I am starting an email campaign encouraging the continued requirement of masks at K-5 schools this fall.
It seems unlikely, as summer school isn't requiring them, but I really don't get the reasoning behind that at all.

I’m doubtful people will be smart.

Basically watching the numbers here.

I’m worried, especially with a newborn on the way. My area is pretty pro mask/vaccine, so that’s been great. The kids are both in camp, and they’re mask mandated, plus COVID tests every few weeks. NYC will be in person school in the fall, and I’m ok with that. They’re still social distancing and masking, and the mandated Covid tests. The reality is, there’s so many people here that it’s hard to be completely safe. You just do your best.

We as in me? Yes.
We as in those around me (extended family/neighbors/local & state governments, etc.) No. It’s like watching a slow moving freight train derailment, knowing the train is carrying flammable toxic waste.

I was pleasantly surprised that around 95% of the people in Costco and the grocery store yesterday were wearing masks. You really stood out if you weren't wearing one here (I'm in the Bay Area).

Walgreens is not as discerning as the clinics you've worked in. Woof. Lying to medical professionals is not the way. My pearls were clutched and are now rolling on the floor

Woof. Lying to medical professionals is not the way. My pearls were clutched and are now rolling on the floor a month or two early or late for vaccines for everything else is no biggie, so I'd equate an almost 12 year old getting it a bit early the same. a year early I'd definitely question and clutch pearls.
