Alabama's 14 day average has increased by 300%.
I'm sending my kids back to school for the first time in almost 2 years in about 2 weeks. The school system isn't requiring masks or taking much interest in social distancing.
Very few people are wearing masks out and about. Including most unvaccinated kids.
I'm trying to fly high on positive vibes right now, but it's getting harder every time I look at my stupid state's data.
Anyone else having big Covid feelings?

We have decided to continue homeschooling until DS can get vaccinated and it sucks. He needs school. But with our governor not allowing masks to be mandated in schools, and our immediate area being pretty Trumpy, we just don’t feel comfortable sending him.
I’m so angry that a fucking piece of cloth is such a hill to die on for these people.

I definitely am. Numbers are going up again everywhere. I'm in CA so the schools are going to be requiring masks and people are starting to wear masks again indoors even if vaccinated, so I'm hopeful that our little spike remains little, but it's just so concerning. No state is an island, things can't get better unless they get better EVERYWHERE.

I am still worried about it. We still take precautions. Kids mask anywhere inside. But Michigan just hosted a 40,000 person country music fest this weekend, so... the state sucks.
The kids went to school last fall and will be going back in August again because staying home is just not an option. We are just trying to be as safe as possible in a state that has zero mask requirements currently.

My kid started sneezing, runny nose and congestion yesterday. In before times, I would have sent to daycare. In post-covid-pre-delta times, I would have sent to daycare. In this post-delta time? I have no idea what the fuck to do and no one will help me make a clear decision.
So my kid is at home. She shattered a glass bowl and has drawn on the coffee table with sparkle markers while I try to work.
The pediatrician only said to test for known exposure, school requirement or non-vaccinated parents. Is that still relevant with delta around? Gah. I’m aggravated because I’m trying to do right.

Yep. I was feeling pretty good about things but Delta is making me nervous.
School starts in 4 weeks. Abbott made it impossible to mandate masks. No one wears one anymore anywhere anyways. All the data says my kid is not at severe risk but she can’t be vaccinated yet. Winter will be too late. Feels like it’s a matter of time before she gets it. I have some major feelings about it at all. Anger. Acceptance. Grief. Annoyance. Sometimes all at the same time.

We're masking everywhere we go. I'm vaccinated, but I figure a little extra protection doesn't hurt and it sets a good example for DS, who's too young for the shot. I'm worried about the school year; last year was fine here, but they also masked all year. I don't know their plans for this year, AND he'll be in a new school building. At the same time, my job is making noises that I'll need to go back in September, so homeschooling won't really work.

My kids are in school/ daycare, and my big kid wears a mask all day. Our vaccination rates are high and our case rates are still low, even though they're rising. So I'm okay with the risk of school/ daycare. But we're going to be pulling back on a lot of other activities. We'd planned a couple of day trips to cities nearby, but we'll probably not do that. And we had hoped to visit a few museums locally, but they're removing all timed entry pass requirements. So we're not doing that.

We're still worried. Kids mask if they absolutely have to be out in a store, H and I still mask everywhere even though we have been fully vaccinated. I haven't heard from the school what their plans are in terms of masking, but it's a K-4th school, so hopefully will continue masking. If not, Missouri is easy to homeschool in, but he needs to be around kids, so we'll see.

I am, although our #s are not terrible. We all still mask indoors - H and I are vaxxed, but kids are not.
We don’t eat indoors with the kids. H and I have only done it a few times, but it’s time for us to stop.
This all seemed so inevitable once CDC said vaxxed people could stop masking. ☹️

snip And we had hoped to visit a few museums locally, but they're removing all timed entry pass requirements. So we're not doing that. We had tickets for this upcoming Sunday to Natural History and after waiting the nearly 30 days to use them, we are so disappointed that they pulled back the passes and have canceled our plans to go. We were so close! Such a mistake!

Yes, I am getting increasingly worried. My kids were virtual last year. Now we are looking at starting back in-person with no masks or precautions, and Delta variant circulating. We haven’t done indoor dining or unmasked stores with kids…but I am thinking they will suddenly plunge into school like it’s 2019? I was okay when cases were plummeting and vaccinations going up, but not okay with delta if the school doesn’t reverse and take some precautions. Unfortunately, some people were ready to riot over masks until the district dropped masking requirements 2 weeks before school ended, so I think reinstating masks would be difficult.

I'm anxiously awaiting what the school mask situation will be for our district (they've removed all social distancing procedures and a really crappy online option which we would have had to commit to in May). If things keep trending poorly, I think there will be a higher likelihood of masks required at least. DD2 starts K and her doctors will want her to wear a mask even if it's not a school requirement (and as her parents, we will want both of our DDs to wear one), and while she does great with a mask and is used to wearing one, if it's on her to do it and other kids don't, results are mixed.

Just last week we got a survey from the school about what our opinion is for making on children too young to be vaccinated. I know my very red town will opt to not be masked, but we will still require it of our kids.

Slightly. I lived in an area that has high vax numbers. My kids went to school full time last year and will again.
We have a Disney trip booked and paid for next month. We are still going, just wearing a maks indoors whether mandated or not.
I am very worried about another shutdown. Certain Medicaid waiver services will collapse with another shutdown and my huge nonprofit will dissolve, we may dissolve anyway. The thought makes me scared for our individuals.

Like I said on politics board We still wear mask everywhere. Keep distance. No restaurant Pick up groceries. Those things.
Cause vaccines dont keep you from catching it. Just give your body the info to fight it off. Maybe fight it off so well you dont even skip a beat in your life or maybe you stay home a day with sniffles or mild symptoms.
Vaccine is showing it should keep you from dying, and prob not sick enough for the hospital

I am, but we’ve slowly been doing more things. With a new baby coming in a few months I’m trying to give the kids some normalcy and fun before I’m stuck in newborn haze.
DS has done virtual learning since March 2020 but we’re sending him in person when school starts in September. I’m nervous but we live in a small town and I’ll pull him if I have to. My province only just opened up last Friday so I foresee an uptick in cases coming, but as of right now things seem okay.
Eta: by ‘more things’ I mean I bring the kids to stores with me (mainly groceries, always masked), gone berry picking a few times (masked), we go to the park unmasked and have eaten on a patio once. We have a trip to Montreal coming up that I’m a little nervous about but we’ll be doing outdoor activities or masked indoor stuff.

Yes, I lost it on my kids camp/daycare because my girls did not have their masks on at pick up (I can only remember one other time I freaked out in 6 years and it was when one of my girls was a baby and did not get fed for like 7 hours).
I live in an area where numbers are great but the mask mandate was recently dropped. We have cancelled plans and pushed all trips (with the exception of a week down the shore) until after the kids can get vaccinated.
This all sucks.

I feel comfortable in my area with our vaccine % and our numbers. School will be masked in the fall and that's ok with me. We mask when we go to stores with DD, but we spent last Friday at an Amusement Park with no masks and went to a large family party yesterday with a ton of kids. Again, I feel fine given our area and my state's response to Covid the entire time has been good. If I was in a different area or our numbers/vaccine rate was different this would probably not be the case. If things change I will reevaluate but it's nice to venture out and do more things.

My province opened up completely at the start of July and we haven't yet seen an uptick in cases. The vaccines were never a guarantee that people wouldn't catch it, they are meant to keep people getting really sick and hospitalized, which overall seems to be the case in places that are seeing an increase in cases amongst vaccinated populations.
I'm far less concerned than i was. Both H and I are double vaxxed and covid recovered and DS is covid recovered so has some immunity. He's in summer camp now and will be returning to school as normal in Sept. He has to wear a mask on the camp bus right now and we all wear them going into stores. We've yet to hear the school boards decision on them for the new year, but given how last year went i'm confident in his schools ability to handle it (they had 0 in school spread all year). In my city the majority of people are still wearing masks, over the weekend we were camping in more rural areas and very few masks other than on staff were seen.

Our area is well-vaccinated, but numbers are rising and Delta is here. We’re pulling back on any indoor venues or dining with the kids. We did a few museums when our numbers were really low, before Delta, but not now. We are planning to do in person school and preschool, but only as long as masks are required and COVID numbers stay low. If we get over 10 cases per 100,000, I’ll be pulling the kids until they are vaccinated. DD is high risk for complications, but both kids have IEPs and really benefit from in person school (and I don’t enjoy formal homeschooling), so I’m crossing my fingers it all works out.

joy my kid was sick over the weekend and I gave him at home test from CVS. Is that an option where you’re at? I think so. I just find the delta variant’s veracity to be concerning and I’d like updated guidelines to reflect that. The symptoms are more in line with a common cold so while we all collectively figure it out, the parents are left going “so what do I do?” I would haaaate to be the parent that sends her kid with what she thought was a cold and actually delta. But, I also have to work. I know the rapid tests aren’t super accurate. I know nothing about these at home tests. Oh well. It is what it is.

Our hospitals are full without COVID, we've had 30 patients on ED hold each day I've worked waiting 48+ hours for a room. I'm not mentally stable enough to handle another COVID surge, it will break me. The COVID denial all around me is just wearing me down.

I was more relaxed about it with school being out (though DS is in daycare) and H and I both being vaxxed.
Our immediate area is doing ok, but with a couple major events going on this month, I can see a lot of exposure potential and we are likely going to reign things in a bit. DS stays home from stores for the most part anyway. Masks aren't required for school, but are strongly suggested. We will send him with one. He's been one to keep it on even when not needed, so I'm not worried about him in that regard. I will feel a lot better once he can get a shot. He's big enough that he looks 12- can that be a qualifier? He wants one as soon as he can get it for him and so he doesn't get others sick.
My 10 year old gets it. But not grown ass moronic Trumpers.

I'm not particularly concerned. Vaccination rates in my area/state are high, cases are still low, all the adults my children come into close contact with are vaxxed, and Covid has not shown to produce the significant health risks to young children as it does adults. Unless those things change (and of course they could), I will remain comfortable with my kids being around other children unmasked in exchange for the social, educational and developmental benefits that school, camp, playdates, etc provide. I do mask them when in grocery stores or places like that, but honestly I rarely do that anymore. Mostly because they're annoying, lol.
