A year in and the lab leak seems to be gaining possible cred? They say it’s “unlikely,” but no one can cross it off the list for sure yet. I mean, maybe not surprising because China, but I didn’t realize this was not 100% in the conspiracy theory column. And not just scientists. Biden is also mentioned as wanting more info in a joint statement with a dozen other countries. I was very :record scratch: when the CNN preview of their special had Bob Redfield saying he thought it originated in a lab but if you see the full clip of what he said, it sounds less nutty. As cmb said, he didn't suggest that it was purposefully released, but rather that it was an accident. I don't have a super high opinion of him as a physician but he seemed to think it series the laws of biology and virology that a novel virus would be so efficient in its initial leap from animals to humans, whereas viruses being studied in labs tend to be optimized for efficiency for the purposes of research. I'm explaining it poorly but the crux is that it's not as nefarious or outlandish as it may seem. No I get what your saying and I’m following it. I’m just surprised because this messaging seems new to me. And I know it’s partly because the WHo did a crap investigation.

I can’t decide if it’s admirable or insane He probably would’ve gotten heat if he’d been seen as “jumping the line” and got the vaccine early. Absolutely he would have gotten heat for it even though governor should absolutely qualify as emergency personnel. Just running the state with, what 1/5 of the country’s economy. His recall is rolling so I guess I’m not surprised he’s being more careful after his restaurant snafu.

Indiana’s governor is early 50s and was not eligible until the state opened to 50+ in early March, so that’s when he got his. He’s still being eaten by his own party for his COVID response, so I think he was very conscious of negative publicity from being perceived as a line-jumper. /anecdote

Walz only just got his too. I think it's smart politically but he did have to go into quarantine a couple of weeks ago, so I was wondering if he regretted that decision. I was really surprised when I read that too. I assumed he got vaxxed super early on. To me I wouldn't have even blinked an eye at him getting it as soon as possible -- seems to me being the literal leader of the state should be the definition of essential worker, but I get it. I did a bit of information sharing in the FB comments of an MPR article because it said the Lt. Governor had been vaccinated and some dude was crying foul, because she's young and seemingly healthy. Lo and behold, 30 seconds of research showed that she was vaccinated because she's a member of the White Earth nation.
