So crazy. Last March was insane with the whiplash of news we got every day. I was super super pregnant and went on bedrest the first week of March and man that was a miserable month on top of the world shutting down.
My H got word last week that it’s almost guaranteed that his entire team will be WFH permanently. It seems so weird but it makes sense and I’m actually relieved because it means when my oldest starts K in September, someone will be home to get him on and off the bus so we will save on before/after care which is huge. Especially since at some point in the fall or winter we will put both babies in daycare/preschool probably.

March 1st was the first known case here in Houston and my very last social outing. :sobs:
MH and I will both be fully vaccinated this month though so it's not all bad news.

A fun-ish fact. The J+J vaccine is being manufactured in MD, according to Gov. Hogan.

willow, I wouldn't be surprised if H's company WFH indefinitely. They haven't received word, but I am almost positive they won't be going back at least until 2022. Which, selfishly, makes things WAY easier for me, in terms of if DD1 goes back to school and needs someone to pick her up at 2:30. He said even if they did go back, they will be giving everyone a ton of flexibility to WFH. Which I wish had been standard before this anyway!

My county has finally started vaccinating teachers and grocery store workers (maybe other store workers as well?) We have hundreds of thousands of people just in that group, apparently. The goal is to have kids to back in person in April. We have so many HCW and 65+ here, I don't think they were even nearly done with older people yet.
But, I just read an article that the state is giving schools billions of dollars (like $6 billion or something) to be back in person by March 31st. Which for DD's school is a moot point, because her spring break is that week. But also, that feels really icky to me. If they are just NOW starting to vaccinate school staff, there is no way all of them will be fully vaxxed with both doses by then. It feels gross to encourage schools to open even if it isn't safe, in the name of giving them money they need and deserve anyway. I don't even know how they are going to make the April goal, honestly. It's possible I skimmed though and misunderstood the article I read.

Do any of you follow Meg Keene? I've been following her for a long time because of A Practical Wedding but her content is much less wedding related now. She's been criticizing the bay area teacher's unions lately. I don't know enough of the issue to know whether she has a point or not. I just feel so much for all the teachers out there who did not sign up to be on the frontlines of a pandemic and are somehow still being forced into that position a whole year later.

This plus knowing now just how sick he was and he was given the absolute best in treatments. A lot of people in his condition would have (and have) died. It's infuriating.

The vaccine HAS to make me feel better than the Jager shots I had on my 21st. Goldschlager, here. Good going down. Not good coming back up. Rallied to go to the neighborhood chinese restaurant for midori sours. Didn't even wake up with heartburn. The 2nd covid shot had me feeling off all day and I passed out at 8:30pm. *pours one out for my youth*

easier the thing about the Berkeley union leader being taped while dropping off his 2 year old at daycare is insane. It’s all over the news here and makes me so mad. It was released by some group called “Guerilla moms” and they are saying more is coming. He’s a teacher. How the fuck do they expect he’s teaching their children virtually without having childcare for his own kid? I get that people are frustrated but following covid protocols in a daycare are a lot different than a huge school district of k-8. And then yesterday I read a story about how one district on the Peninsula is pushing to go back but the district is split with a wealthy area and a non-wealthy area. Schools look totally different in those area and all the reopen talk is being driven by one side. It’s a mess and I think it’s going to get a lot worse with the Governor’s announcement on schools yesterday.
