I agree it isn't surprising, but it is important to compile the data. Not that 45 supporters will believe it.

I feel like I read somewhere pre-coup that she still wanted to run for governor again, but lol like I could ever find that again. She was David Tennants podcast before the general election and she said there were only certain positions that she would pursue/accept because she knows where she wants to end up and only wants to pursue positions that will be relevant.

Every “press release” brings me joy now. You know he’s sitting at his computer angrily banging 280 characters. Then, “GDI. Someone put this on White House letterhead and throw FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE on this shit!” You know it kills him.

I've been distracted by impeachment, so hadn't seen much. I think it's a good first step. Especially with the elimination of cash bail. I need to do more research though. I am not shocked that police are against it though Everyone on my FB is saying this will essentially end all police forces. And I'm like, what? I know some are complaining about unfunded mandates (like body cams on at all times) which as an educator, I'm used to those. And we have a lot of small police forces around here on tight budgets, so I'm sympathetic to that, but I'm just searching for the part the everyone is all upset about. On my FB feed (I have several relatives on the police force) they're really angry that qualified immunity is being eliminated. I read a very thoughtful and well-written letter from a local police chief stating that it was a bad idea, and I would need to know more before forming an opinion. In general qualified immunity (they're immune for crimes committed while performing their duties lawfully) is a good thing and protects all types of law enforcement - I'm familiar with it in an international context. Like I said, though, I need to know more before forming a strong opinion.

Re the bathroom, and granted I'm a person that gets tubs of Trader Joe's cookies and bottles of water for any contractor visiting my house for even an hour (plumber, HVAC, Comcast), I'm really wondering why I wouldn't want the people who are sworn to take a bullet for me to use my bathroom. And then thinking, huh, wonder if the detail might not take that well. But yay for the Obama detail for how they handled things.
And I suppose there were enough bathrooms where a 'public one' could be designated, if need be?

Like I said, though, I need to know more before forming a strong opinion. While on some of my feeds the laypeople most opposed to the bill are the 'usual suspects' who I can almost use as a guide to 'they say something is good, it must be bad' and vice versa, I have also read thoughtful comments from police chiefs and state and county attorneys stating some aspects of the bill were not well thought out to achieve the purpose for which it was written. And, unfortunately the optics are bad IMO - it was a huge omnibus bill, introduced for a vote just this month, passed by a lame duck session, and the vote was held in the middle of the night from what I've read. To a point, that offsets the background that much of the bill was initially worked on by both the Black Caucus and police representatives, as I understood it. I do wish there were no unfunded mandates in the bill in general, but I don't think it will be either the disaster leading to huge jumps in crime, or a sure fire police reform action.

Someone I used to follow on IG made this hand gesture in an otherwise innocuous story post last week. She has never shared about her political views, and it could have been totally innocent, but... I trust no one.

I mean, Trump stole Franklin's bust and other art from the US Embassy in Paris, so I can't say I'm surprised. Eta: Sorry, he stole from the ambassador's residence. link

Because it's difficult or near impossible to tell if there's nefarious intent. But meaning/ symbolism evolves over time, and in the context of what's happening today... Idk. I think there's an additional level of care to be taken.

I showed the Lincoln statue tweet to my H, and his guess (emphasis on guess) is that a bust of Churchill has been in the Oval for 40+ years, and Trump removed it for a bust of Lincoln. So maybe just making the way for Churchill to come back?
Either way, the optics suck.

Especially now with physical distancing and masks, I've often caught myself starting to use, or actually using, the OK sign to say, well, OK when dealing with a drive through attendant, etc.
