I have a *feeling*, nothing to currently back it up, but a *feeling* that there is going to be shit coming out about Boebs involvement. MTGreene is a whackjob but Bobbypins is fucking actively scary. Bobbypins 🤣🤣🤣 That got me too 🤣 that’s what I’m always going to think of when I hear her name 🤣🤣

This goes right back to my feeling that CEO pay needs to be tied to worker pay (e.g., CEO can only make 100 times that of lowest paid employee).

Representative Raskin talking about his son is so beautiful and so heartbreaking. Imagine leading an historic Impeachment while grieving such loss AND processing the trauma if having your life threatened. TW, suicide www.stitcher.com/s?eid=80890652&refid=asa

TW, suicide www.stitcher.com/s?eid=80890652&refid=asaThe amount he’s going through and still working so hard is quite something. I was not the parent on my experience but I have seen what that kind of loss does to parents and it’s incredible that he’s working right now. This is not to diminish anyone’s way of grieving because this place.

I have a potentially stupid question. Has the White House correspondents dinner just not been held in recent years? I was watching clips from a 2017 one and Hasan Minaj was just roasting them so I was thinking Trump wouldn’t be into them because he doesn’t like when people don’t kiss his feet. It hasn't been held the past few years, I think because Trump refused to attend? My memory is hazy on the specifics but you're right that it hasn't been a thing recently.

It’s been held, but without a comedy aspect. I think they skipped 2020 but I assume that was Covid, not Trump related.

That's a great question, considering the amount of attention it usually gets. They did not hold a dinner in 2020 due to COVID (and I remember being shook at the cancellation and realizing this virus thing might be a whole ass situation. Lol me.). But they held a dinner in 2019 with a less comedic and more pro-first amendment bent. It didn't spark controversy so I don't think it garnered any mass market media attention. I didn't watch it, to my recollection.

CNN's story on anticipated Tuesday batch of pardons - not a listing of names yet www.cnn.com/2021/01/17/politics/trump-pardons-expected/index.htmlI thought these paragraphs were interesting The pardons are one of several items Trump must complete before his presidency ends in days. White House officials also still have executive orders prepared, and the President is still hopeful to declassify information related to the Russia probe before he leaves office. But with a waning number of administration officials still in jobs, the likelihood that any of it gets done seemed to be shrinking. The January 6 riots that led to Trump's second impeachment have complicated his desire to pardon himself, his kids and personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani. At this point, aides do not think he will do so, but caution only Trump knows what he will do with his last bit of presidential power before he is officially out of office at noon on January 20.

I had absolutely no idea that not accepting food from other people was a thing here. I don't think it has been mentioned on the politics board before, has it? I very rarely venture over to GD. My first thought when reading that there are lots of people who wouldn't eat something someone else made is that they must not have grown up in the Midwest, where potlucks (like large ones full of people you only kind of know) and dropping off casseroles to people who have suffered losses is, like, a way of life 🤣 Anyway, I would totally make a lasagna and drop it off to someone if I were in the US. As others have mentioned, food security is a real issue, and turning down food is a privilege not everyone has. If I can help someone struggling for whatever reason feed their family, sign me up.

crimsonandclover I’ve seen it talked about on other boards I used to post on and on social media. I’ve seen memes that are pics of food in a clearly disgusting kitchen, and the comments are usually along the lines of “that’s why I don’t eat other people’s cooking.” I don’t recall seeing it brought up here.

Someone admits to a less clean standard of living in some way and then everyone whips into a frenzy about this is why they don’t eat other peoples food.

The Champ & Major: First Dogs book comes out tomorrow! I’m second in line for it at my library. I might be more excited for it than my kids.

It comes up all.the.time on GD in the UO or confession threads usually. Someone admits to a less clean standard of living in some way and then everyone whips into a frenzy about this is why they don’t eat other peoples food. I was going to say I feel like I mostly see it in the UO type threads. Seems to me like it isn’t a very unpopular opinion lol. I get having weird hang ups about things, but to use the reasoning that people’s cleanliness (or lack there of) as a reason not to just doesn’t make sense. The turnover rate is so high in restaurants and most people just don’t give a shit, so corners are cut and other employees look the other way. Obviously, that’s not every restaurant employee or even every restaurant, but so many have the attitude of what people don’t know can’t hurt them. I’m sure most people’s kitchens are cleaner than what you’d find in a restaurant. People just assume because it’s a business that they’d hold themselves to a higher standard. The few times I’ve had food poisoning has always been from eating at a restaurant 🤷🏻♀️ For example, I was a server about 10 years ago and was working through a crazy busy dinner rush. The line started getting behind and one of the orders was for some kind of steak entree. I go to the kitchen and see the manager that was expediting move the steak onto the plate and somehow dropped it onto the floor (not the whole plate, just the steak). She yelled “5 second rule!” And tossed it back on the grill so the heat “would burn off any bacteria.” She laughed and said I better not tell anyone. It wasn’t a high end restaurant, but it’s also one that boasted a near perfect health department score. And that’s just one of many stories.
