A couple of years ago I read Silent Spring. I always wanted to read Rachel Carson’s other books so that was one of my mini 2021 goals. I’ve completed that goal since I just finished The Sea Around Us! It was a nice mix of science and history. It was my second favorite out of her ocean themed books. My favorite was Under the Sea-Wind and my least favorite was The Edge of the Sea. Silent Spring and The Sense of Wonder were also good but go in separate categories compared to the ocean books. I’m not sure if I’m going to count Lost Woods: The Discovered Writing of Rachel Carson on my list since it’s a collection of various writings that were published after her death. I have it checked out from the library but I think I’ll read something else before I look at it. The 4 Carson books I’ve read this year It’s a shame Edge of the Sea was my least favorite because it was a gorgeous 1955 edition with beautiful binding, nice thick pages, and worn corners.

I started Malibu Rising last night and that was a mistake because it is sooo good and I have no time to read for the next 2 days. 😫😫 I loved it!! And I went in with high expectations so I was excited to enjoy it so much.

I started Love Warrior by Glennan Doyle. My sister has gently urged me to read this book since my marital issues 3 years ago and I’m finally doing it.
On chapter 3 and it’s good so far, I’m curious where it goes.

Ok I finished Bloodline. I was not expecting that. And that's all I will say since someone else said they were adding it to their list. I'm torn on how I feel about the book overall. I kept reading because I needed the answer but I also felt like it was dragging and had a very "are we there yet" feeling reading it. But the story line was interesting. I will give a trigger warning for rape though. Just an FYI. It doesn't go into detail but it does mention it a few times.

I just started Girls of Slender Means by Muriel Spark. I've never read anything by her and I love it so far.

I finished The Boy From the Woods and I liked it but didn’t love it. I think the author is so, so good at creating colorful characters but there’s just soooooo much going on in his books, so you don’t get to spend enough time with any one of them.
I’m going to read The Sanatorium next.

I’m trying to keep myself at two a month but I was seriously tempted by What’s Mine and Yours.

I got Opal and Nev and We Could Be Heroesfor my BOTM box. I’m excited about Opal and Nev! I loved Daisy Jones and it seems like that with maybe some deeper themes. Tell me what you think about We Could Be Heroes. I’ve been eyeing it but I keep hearing mixed reviews.

I’ll keep you posted.

I don't always use both accounts, but I love it for months like this one when there are so many good choices.

I thought BOTM had good selections this month. I ended up with Lost Apothecary and added some of the others to my TBR. I was tempted to adjust get Opal & Nev and What's Mine and Yours. I just have too much on my TBR to purchase more than one a month.

I finished Love Lettering today. A cute romance that was a little steamy but that wasn’t the point of the story. Just a piece of it.

That’s kind of what I mean - I want a whole book just about him. I don’t know if you read Run Away but Hester (the lawyer) is in that, too. So I’m hoping maybe he’ll write another book with these characters. I’d like some more information, please.

i’m about halfway through lock every door. it’s probably been mentioned in this thread, but it has a very rosemary’s baby vibe and i’m liking that - i guess it shouldn’t surprise me since it’s dedicated to ira levin. i think i might put that on my list to read soon since i’ve only ever watched the movie.

What do we think about a monthly reading thread? This one is already soo long and I think a bit intimidating to join.

I like the idea of a monthly thread. I’m in and out of this one enough that I would appreciate a fresh start occasionally!
I tore through The Lost Girls of Devon in a day. It was a fun read and very much like all of Barbara O’Neal’s other books with strong female protagonists from several generations, lots of emotions, and a solid helping of romance. I’m now about halfway into The Duke and I. I expected to like it, but I’m actually liking it more than expected!

I’m having a hard time getting into The Wrong Family. I think I’m 100 pages in and may have hit the twist so we will see This book was very meh to me. I don't get the hype. Yes I finished. It was just so all over the place and weird and I just blah. I am so glad I didn't pay for it.

I finished Dead Wake and really wtf to Woodrow Wilson hemming and hawing for 2 years after the sinking of the Lusitania to enter WWI. I think Erik Larson does a good job overall with his books but the front halves get bogged down in too much exposition.
At one point in Devil in the White City I just started skipping over everything to do with the World's Fair.
