Anyone looking for a fun YA fantasy read, I just finished Fable by Adrienne Young. It was quite good - pirates, a bad ass heroine, and a slow burn romance with pretty decent writing.
It ends in a big cliffhanger, and the sequel comes out in March.

The Court of Thorns and Roses series is on sale on Kindle today. All four books for under $5. Love this series! Guess I’ll have to go ahead and buy it now!

I just finished Nora Roberts’ new book, The Awakening. It’s book 1 in The Dragon Heart Legacy series. I really enjoyed it, but the ending was a cliff hanger and book 2 isn’t due out until November 😩. Good first read of the year though, Nora always coming thru!

I am starting Love Your Life by Sophie Kinsella

Have you read the Andrews’ Edge series yet? That’s probably my favorite of their series, although I’ve enjoyed everything they’ve written. Just the first one but I loved it. I've got two more Kate Daniels to read and then I'll finish the Edge books. Have you bought Iron and Magic yet? It’s a Kate Daniels spinoff, but IA suggest reading it before the last KD book (it’s between books 9 and 10). I think the Edge series is considered finished, but a couple of the characters show up in the Innkeeper series. Their Hidden Legacy series is really good, too. I’m so excited about Blood Heir.

Ready to discuss spindle cove when you are! I’ve read them all. I was a little turned off at first, the hero seemed so strongly “I am male, so I am right”. But I thought that his arc was done really well and, when looking back, I felt like the stuff that bothered me in the beginning was mitigated by his growth. I always liked the heroine, she had so much spunk! Not gonna lie, the first few reviews on Goodreads had me a bit worried too. It was like they had the same beginning issues I did, interpreted his actions later more negatively and didn’t like the heroine. I was glad that I thought it all came together well and I’m really looking forward to reading the rest. My independent bookstore is great but older historical romances are always backordered. So somehow, through ordering series that were available, I ended up with this one, the whole Girl Meets Duke series, and a Christmas anthology, all by by Tessa Dare. So I was glad I liked this one, since I have so many others by her!

justbecause Thanks! I just bought them. They’ve been on my to read list for a while. aeroplaneoverthesea I really liked Nora’s new book, too. I finished it, looked up the next book, and was like... oh. It will be a while. I don’t read much Nora Roberts, one of my friends said I’d like her fantasy trilogy, and I wasn’t paying enough attention when I bought it. So I bought book 1 of the wrong trilogy.

My favorites are Innkeeper and Hidden Legacy!

I just finished Wow, No Thank You by Samantha Irby. It was hilarious. I started it weeks ago but read fully a third of it today so I'm counting it as my first finish of 2021. I had a really conservative goal of I think 12 books last year since work is always really taxing and only hit nine since work got exponentially more stressful starting in March. Wonder why. I used to read prolifically so I'm hoping to work back up to it. I think I'll either do Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler or Native by Katilin Curtice next. I absolutely adore Samantha Irby. I bought all of her books on kindle after hearing her on one of my favorite podcasts. I want to be her best friend.

I just finished The Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah and am now reading The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen. I read that by Sarah Addison Allen and then read all her other books. They’re so magical!

I liked UnHoneymooners, not so much Holidaze. I would try that one even if you didn’t like Holidaze. Honestly, there’s a Christina Lauren book for everyone... you just have to try them out.

I'm reading The Only Plane In The Sky, which compiles a bunch of different accounts of 9/11. It's really good so far. I'm always looking for nonfiction that I can learn from, but isn't boring, and this definitely fits the bill. This was a present for my husband. I felt it was a really powerful read. It stripped the politics out of the events and made it so human.

I have a couple reads ready in my Libby shelf. The Cousins by Karen McManus, Baileys Cafe by Gloria Naylor, The Woman before Wallis by Bryan Turnball. Not sure where I’m going to start.
I returned The Tourist Attraction early. I thought I’d like it but it didn’t excite me.

Well, I finished the year at 70 books, several of which were Sherlock Holmes short stories. I finished the year at 14k pages.
I don’t give myself permission to buy books very often because I have many and decided that was silly yesterday. I got For Whom the Bell Tolls and the only other Hemingway I haven’t read, Shirley (Bronte), Franny and Zooey (Salinger), Surfacing (Atwood), and Tipping the Velvet (Waters). So that is my plan for the next bit after I finish Pilgrim’s Progress. I am about 1/3 in.

Any duchess will do is my favorite in the series.

Just read the graphic novel adaptation of Kindred by Octavia Butler.
It was phenomenal. You all must read it.

I’m listening to The Ten Thousand Doors of January, which I grabbed at random from the library. I am absolutely loving it so far, it’s a mix of The Secret Garden and modern magic realism. It’s making my heart happy. I'm glad you like it! It was a two star for me. I kept waiting for the magic to happen but I felt like everything was told to me instead of showed. I was legit angry because I felt like the idea had so much potential. Ten thousand doors and different worlds and I get to experience basically none of them😂. But I know so many loved it!

My goal this year is 75. Last year my goal was 50 and I read 57 and over 20,500 pages.
I'm starting the year off with the Revenger by Alastair Reynolds it's the start of a trilogy about two sisters in space who join a pirating ship. He normally writes quite hard sci fi and this is a bit of a different direction. I've started it in the past and stopped but I think I'll finish this time.
I'll be doing the BookRiot read harder challenge again this year and probably read a book for that challenge next.

I’m on the 4th Bridgerton book 🤦♀️ probably taking a break after this one. I feel like I need some air 🤪 I have The Battle of Hattie Taylor next, which is a western, romance, coming of age story by Susan Anderson. And then an Agatha Christie.
I usually average about 65 books, but only hit 53 this year. Coronavirus cut my commuting-listening time, and it took me a while to find my groove again.

Y’all inspired me to check and I read 71 books in 2020. A lot of that was rereads but I’m still counting them. 😀 For those doing the book riot challenge, this is probably a dumb question, but what is a SFF anthology? And has anyone picked a book for the first challenge? I’m trying to think of a book I’ve been intimidated to read and I’m coming up empty.

I finished The Curious World of Calpurnia Tate in an afternoon since it’s Kid Lit. It was a fun little sequel to The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate but now I wish there was a third one.
Now I’m moving back to the nature nonfiction with Rachel Carson’s Under the Sea-Wind. The introduction by Linda Lear was so well done that it made me want to read her biography so I’ll have to add that to my list.
