I did it! I made my towel loop! It’s not perfect, the yarn is just cheap stuff from an online kit mh bought me. And I know I missed some stitches here or there. But I finally got all my stuff and completed my first project. Now I can officially say I crochet. AND I didn’t technically have a real pattern for this. I kinda mashed a few patterns together and just winged it. Thanks for the help AmyG Sundae cmb and the encouragement @zweber ! Pics below. yippiieeee

Am I the only one who sizes down on hooks or completely ignores the recommended size? I tend to follow patterns, and even without, I’m using 5-7 knitting needles or F-G crochet hooks for worsted weight hats, scarfs, gloves. Dolls are even smaller hooks 😬 I’m opposite, I tend to size up. I think I have an agressive amount of natural tension in my work 😂

Quick question — I was practicing single stitch crochet last night. I did about chain 25, and sc about 16 rows. It looks good, but it just keeps rolling up constantly. Do you think it’s Bc it’s small? Or do you think I used too much tension? I do think I was pulling it pretty tight...

This happens to me if I'm putting too much tension or if I start crocheting into the back of the chain without noticing. I have to be really careful for a few rows about barely holding the needle and yarn before I can relax.

Make sure if you drop the stitch, you pick it back up in the correct orientation

Thanks! I’ll watch both of those things. I know it was too tight, looking back. I’ll keep practicing. This yarn is crap also lol.

It’s a cheap acrylic yarn from a kit off amazon, in light worsted weight, #3. I think I was using an H (5.0) hook last night for the practice, and I think that was too big. When I made the towel loop, I switched to a 4.5mm I think. It recommends a 4.5-5.5mm crochet hook on the yarn label. Edit: I tried to undo this practice piece. And I can’t even get it to undo right. Again not sure if it’s too tight, or if it’s cheap yarn and the fuzzies are all twisted up in each other. Does that make sense?

I find it really varies by brand. Your hook brand will matter, too, as some will cause more snagging and build up of fuzz than others. I would look into getting an F or G hook and working on your tension for that weight yarn. Brands vary in the sizing, depending on if they use metric sizing or not. If you can afford it, try an ergonomic hook- the handles are thicker, and it can be easier to not death grip them (can, because I still try to death grip at times 😂)

I crochet it just takes me foreverrrr to finish anything these days. it’s a free pattern from daisy farm crafts here daisyfarmcrafts.com/pink-single-crochet-baby-sweater/ if you get confused by her wording at all, she has a step by step youtube tutorial for the exact pattern and pink jacket pictured!

Hi I'm jumping in here. I hadn't crocheted since before DS was born, but I got an itch to finally make the temperature blanket I've always wanted to do. I'm really enjoying seeing everyone's progress photos here.

I'm in a rut and really need to find something to do with my hands in the evening. I have a couple of WIP, but they are pretty mindless. I need a complicated chart or something like that. I don't even know what to make though. ETA I think I just needed to whine to get myself looking. Might start this cropped sweater

One in the challenging phase and one that I can work on mindlessly when I get frustrated. I LOVE that sweater. Do you have yarn in mind for it? It's a pattern by brooklyn tweed (deliciosa) for their shelter (worsted) yarn. I had several hanks from a project I never completed so I was looking for a pattern. But I didn't have enough for the sweater so I am going to make a hat and scarf for DH with it instead (he has a birthday coming up). I bet once the yarn is washed it will be very soft, but in hand it is not as soft as I would like it (I am really picky/sensitive to that). I am thinking about using the woolfolk worsted instead- though it doesn't have the nice multidimensional flecks of color that shelter does. It is so freaking soft and my favorite thing to touch (I made a scarf with it ages ago and it is my most worn knitted piece). I went to my LYS yesterday and the woman assured me that just about any worsted would probably be fine in it's place for the pattern. ETA wool folk far. Thinking this gorgeous bronze-brown color. I think the leaves would like nice in it

I think the weekender will get on my docket at some point this year! Oh I like the weekender! You definitely should knit it! I've had good luck with the BT patterns. I knit Ginsburg a couple of years ago and I loved knitting it, but it's been a tricky piece to incorporate into my wardrobe. brooklyntweed.com/collections/patterns/products/ginsberg

How many times do you guys rip out your work and re-do? Sincerely me, from three rows back fixing a yarn tacking fuck up in the simple part. Tell me I’m not alone. One of the main reasons I crochet instead of knit, ha!

I don't have to do it all the time, but when I do I also usually have to put it down and walk away first. Gotta get my head right. Otherwise I'm vveerryy tempted to just trash the whole thing, or I'll tear it all apart and then trash it anyway. I was also the kid who flipped board games when I was done/mad so I have a teensy bit of "fuck shit up instead of dealing with it" personality.
