Ok. So if I did the first part, where she does it around the hair band. Then get a second color and do what she does for the border. Then I would have a ruffle loop. And I could put it around my towel, use it to hang on the hook, and wash and dry with the regular towels. Eh? well do you have hair bands? if so, try them plain without any crochet around them and see what they do in your washer and dryer stuck on a towel. lol I probably can make you come crochet covered hair bands if you tell me what color yarn if that's all you want?

That’s actually a good idea, to see if we even like the hair band idea. I’ll go do one right this minute. I would probably take them off to wash and dry Bc germies could be in the creases. I really appreciate both of y’all’s offers. But the point is more to come up with things I can do for myself you know? I really do want to learn, my grandma was a big crocheter, so that’s why. I’ll be back once I get my act together. So like, ‘22?

Depending on what you are looping the hair band around to hold the towel, you may decide to do something different anyways. check pinteret for ideas. lol

Does anyone have favorite yarn brands? My kids saw a scrap of an ombré yarn yesterday and were amazed at the “rainbow yarn.” So I want to get something multi-colored to make them some hats or something. I don’t even know what is a good price. Stupid covid is ruining shopping.

I’m also really, really liking the loops & whatever it’s called at michaels light weight yarn. Easy to work with IMO and so soft

Color Made Easy is also great for a cheaper yarn.

Just their extremely thick baby yarn that I found too springy for what I wanted. The only ones I don’t truly like and will forever avoid if possible are the walmart brand and red heart main line. It was really rough to work with and irritated my hands

bernat is expensive (to me) but i love the softee baby yarn, the velvet, and the home dec. they are so soft. i also like the big fluffy blanket yarn for quick stuffed animals. i haven’t tried the cotton yet so that’s tbd

So I had thought I would generally need like worsted or light weights, like #3 or 4. But the ones @zweber mentioned, the velvet and softee, aren’t those bulkier yarns?

But the ones @zweber mentioned, the velvet and softee, aren’t those bulkier yarns? softee is very thin. it’s a 3 weight and 4mm hook. i typically don’t use this thin for any sort of project cause it takes forever. baby velvet is 4 weight and 5mm hook (i use 4.5mm for tighter stitches cause it’s slippery) regular velvet basically the same but 5 weight and the big difference is baby velvet is machine washable. regular is hand wash only. but the labels are almost identical so be careful. the thiccc one is the “bernat blanket” and it’s like 9-11mm hook thick. sorry for all the info. ima wee bit obsessed

Am I the only one who sizes down on hooks or completely ignores the recommended size? I tend to follow patterns, and even without, I’m using 5-7 knitting needles or F-G crochet hooks for worsted weight hats, scarfs, gloves. Dolls are even smaller hooks 😬

I’ve had this cross stitch fabric for ages. The colors in this pic are fairly accurate - black, a brown with a hint of olive, and a light blue-green. I’ve been trying to figure out what projects might look nice on one of these, but no inspiration so far. I think I need to commit for my next project. Any thoughts? I am not very into the traditional floral stuff, snarky quotes a plus.

snowyowl how detailed? You can find basic patterns off etsy or more detailed books off amazon. I haven’t had luck finding cross stitch pattern books in stores, unfortunately

I did it! I made my towel loop! It’s not perfect, the yarn is just cheap stuff from an online kit mh bought me. And I know I missed some stitches here or there. But I finally got all my stuff and completed my first project. Now I can officially say I crochet. AND I didn’t technically have a real pattern for this. I kinda mashed a few patterns together and just winged it. Thanks for the help AmyG Sundae cmb and the encouragement @zweber! Pics below.
