Pistol I made my own pattern for my hooded scarf. I looked at a few on line and got the general idea and then just started going. I think with something like this it would be a lot simpler since the stitch count wouldn't change...it would just be figuring out when to switch colors. Could you maybe use your projector to cut out and overlay and then just use that as a guide, laying it on top when needed to see if it's time to change colors? Eta and keep a notepad so you can write down what you did. I found that useful.

I could do that and trace it onto a roll of craft paper I have to lay over top! I want to make them with the bernat velvet yarn so they are nice and snuggly. ETA- Now I just need to figure out what stitch I want to use. 🤔
