What is your test turnaround in Canada? vinoAlthough there is a united front with covid in Canada, the provinces are doing testing as they see fit. My test results were on my health records online in less than 48 hours, they called me back about the kids in about 5 days. For reference our province has 4.4 million people, are encouraging everyone to get tested and are doing 7000-7500 tests per day, with the highest 24 hour reported new cases of about 90-ish(lately) with about 40-55 average In hospital and 6-9 ICU, 161 deaths. The testing is done at specific testing centres which have an appointment booking available or walk in. It was also just announced that some pharmacies will be able to conduct testing if you have no symptoms. ETA: A friend works in healthcare and her numbers are back within less than 24hrs. Which by all means, essential workers get first dibs on everything right now.

For now we plan on sending the kids. It looks like it'll be 2 days a week in person and the rest DL. Masks required, remaining in cohort.
I feel like our school has a pretty good plan, but it's other people's kids I worry about. We're in a liberal area and most people are good about masks, but there are still a lot who aren't. It's a state mandate to wear them but there are still a lot of defiant people who wear them below their nose, have big gatherings, go out all over the place. Not to mention cases are on a big uptick in my county and I'm shocked our governor hasn't moved back our phases. I wonder if the harsh criticism he's gotten has him wearing thin.
It's a tough place to be and I wish we weren't all in this position.

It is definitely stated that you have has to stay home while awaiting test results, also even if you aren't feeling well you are to stay home until you feel better, positive or negative Unfortunately many States are seeing waits of 10-14 days for results so that makes it more useless. That’s insane!!! 10-14 days?! Even if negative you can catch it within those days... Turnaround is mostly the same day over here, you have to stay inside until the results are in, but for a day that isn’t a big deal. ETA for reference 17million people; last week over 60000 people where tested, around 500 positive cases.

Most places I’ve heard of in our city are less than 72 hours turn-around for test results (many less than 24 hrs). I’ve seen a couple ppl in a FB moms group mention longer wait-times but they seem to be the exception to the rule. There are plenty of test sites, from drive-up locations to urgent care centers, etc.

So our county rolled out final plans this weekend and I’m on board. It was incredibly thorough, and they’ve been open and above-board through the planning process, getting input from parents and teachers, etc. Classes start 8/10. They will be offering school on the normal 5 day/week schedule. Masks on buses, temp checks at access points, and masks for everyone during transitions around campus, in common areas, etc. Social distancing in classrooms as possible (when not possible, masks to be worn). Lunch in cafeteria but no mixing amongst classes. Lunch can also be done outside, weather permitting. Extra sanitation and ventilation measures spelled out. Extra supervision of all activities where kids typically mass/congregate (i.e, loading/unloading buses) spelled out. They also outlined procedures for suspected cases (like if a child falls ill at school), return to school after illness, etc. You can also choose from a couple virtual models — [County] Virtual School (which we’ve always had as an option...it’s a state program) or distance learning thru your individual school. Or obviously withdraw and homeschool. ETA: kim22 i know I’m a bit late to the party but if you’d like to see the plan our county rolled out I’m happy to send you the link.

Turn around here for test results depends on the location. My boss went to cvs and his results were available 4 days later. The head of our HR department went to a county drive thru one and it took 18 days. My SIL went to an urgent care and it took 7 days. My coworker went last Thursday so we’ll see how long it takes her to receive them.

My neighboring school district (3rd largest in the state) announced last night they be virtual learning. I’m interested to see what my district will announce tomorrow.

I was at Target this weekend and they had their usual, full-blown back to school section all set up. I guess they are optimistic.

I mean I know I will still need to buy supplies even if things are 100% virtual but I’m not doing the usual 55 glue sticks, 79 billion pencils, etc etc.

Our school sends out a thing to order a bundle online and have it delivered to the school. I took a gamble and ordered it back in May. I am hopeful he can use it. The PTA president posted something about if they can't go to school than they will find a way to distribute it to the individual kids.
2 Weeks ago my general area was very gung ho about starting school in person. The past 2 weeks has seen a drastic change and there are a million social media posts about staying home and not endangering teachers and not "abusing" our kids by making them wear masks.
Our plan won't be released until early August and our administration has been very clear that there will be no guidance until then. We were in a really good spot last month and the past few weeks have seen an uptick in cases. The town right next to mine has been featured in numerous news stories about a grad party that led to a huge outbreak. So that's rough esp since our town lines are pretty blurred.

Same for us, a neighboring school district decided the first 3 weeks will be 100% virtual. Ours is still choose your own adventure each 9 weeks.

I talked with the school principle yesterday. She is planning on having the school be traditional as long as we don’t go back to stage 1 but the school board has to approve it. As of now 9 kids are officially registered for school next year with 3 pending what the school decides. They sent out their list of supplies a few weeks ago. I should probably start shopping. Our list isn’t too bad this year.

It gave me such great pleasure that I could continue to do it as I became a teacher, and now that Josie and Charlie are in school, their classes and schools are so small that they provide everything, so I guess I get to live out my fantasy shopping through backpacks and lunch boxes.

Because it's all thrown into one big pile, so I don't know why I didn't just buy the bundle the PTA offered. There are no fun Trapper Keepers, fun folders, fun pens, etc. I'm really showing my age here.

I did the bundle as well but it will be delivered to the school. Not sure what will happen if school goes virtual. I'm assuming they'll either have us pick up at the school or they'll contact us again to pay for shipping.

In elementary school there was a school supply store that everyone had to go to. They had everything in a big brown sack with your teacher's name on it. I remember being so excited to open up the bag when we got home to see what was inside. I definitely had some trapper keepers in middle school but they were pretty plain. I was too cool to have any decorations or designs on them.

Lisa Frank was too girly for me. I got the photo sleeve binders and would make collages to decorate them. I was always thrilled to pick out my art supplies. It would have made me twitch as a kid to put my precious supplies in a big communal bin. I always took great care of my supplies and kept them neatly in color order in their boxes. My kids, however, do not. They would have been a nightmare for me to share my precious Crayolas with.

It was like “check out my science book, covered with my Sunday school teacher’s bathroom wallpaper and my math book, sporting our living room florals!
