The kids eat lunch at their desks now and have plexiglass shield around them. We got an email yesterday that lunch is now going to be silent because of the reports of positive results correlating with people going to restaurants (indoors or out). I get it but damn! Honestly this breaks my heart a little 😕.

That seems...excessive, to put it politely. Personally, i would push back on that policy.

flamingo lolz. I was the recorder queen. My poor mom. We picked up "musical instruments" for the girls last week from school. M got a flower pot, so essentially a bucket that will be a "drum." C got a bunch of weird stuff (piece of foam noodle, a shaker, and I don't know what else). I guess they just needed some cheap items they can have en masse for all students.

that's interesting lfig . My friend is having such a different experience. She is teaching her in person class at the same time as the remote kids so she has to stay in front of her computer all day. Like she literally can't move! That’s Josie’s teacher. And when she does walk around to check understanding and help the kids at their desks, Josie just sits there—and it can take a while. From our side of the coin, it’s super frustrating. I’ve stated to just let her leave to go play or I leave a book with her at the desk so she has something to keep her occupied. My friend will give the at home kids something to do or tell them to go take a 5 minute break during those times. I can't imagine trying to effective do both at the same time.

I don't know how much they have to wear masks. M said "not much but like all day" 🤷♀️

So I got a packet of M’s “paperwork” in the take home folder today. Looking at it, it seems like review work from last year, but also it seems like she makes the kids switch papers to grade them. I don’t think I care for that in a first grade classroom. I hope it was just part of the review process and they start doing more soon.

In an effort to avoid additional contact, no homework is sent home in 1st grade this year. She brings her paperwork home on Fridays, but otherwise, nothing is sent back and forth. They do ask that we read 20 minutes nightly.

We got news yesterday that we will be back in school full time starting the 28th! N is excited. I hope it all goes well. It is definitely needed. She’s been sent home 1-2 worksheets for her off days that take about 20 minutes, which is nowhere near what she’d learn in school in a day. I kind of assumed they had a feeling we’d be back sooner than later, which is why they didn’t get to deep into the DL stuff.

M actually likes the masks. He wears them after he gets home and before he goes. He acts like a ninja with it on lol.
Him and 2 other boys have apparently formed an "all star basketball team, we're the blue raspberries" so he has to wear blue every day 😂 good thing he has alot of blue shirts and hoodies

They do ask that we read 20 minutes nightly. I don’t know if this is our Schools reason, but there is no homework in first grade except the push to read each night. They are letting all papers sit for a minimum of 72 hours before someone else touches them however.
