guster no masks for recess/outdoor PE here, either. I think our schools here view outdoor time as a ‘break’ for the kids from masks, etc. Tbh i think even trying to keep kids ‘distanced’ during play would a bit much—or maybe just an uphill battle.

Also, are your school districts using masks for recess? Josie’s is not (actually no masks anytime they’re outside) but they expect the kids to keep a 6 foot distance (they call it Eagles’ wings). I don’t know why but I don’t see it being very efficient. It seems like it’s going to be quite the hassle for the aides to try to keep them apart. We have no in person school here but with camp they only masks inside - no masks outside and they are not keeping them apart. Our numbers are great now, and so far no issues.

I think it’ll be helpful bc it’ll give the younger ones a chance for a more extended mask break. They are also going to try to do as many outdoor classes as possible and let them eat outside as long as the weather hold out (hopefully through October)!

Evie said they only take their masks off for recess, the school provided clips for all the kids so they clip them to their shirts so they don't get lost. Clips stay at school overnight as well.
At lunch, they pull their masks down, but don't get to take them off.

Ours is doing the same and has come up with games and whatnot that can be done while social distancing. I don’t see it working.

So a parent complained at our dance school and they had to redo the mask policy. Dancers are required to wear masks while dancing now. It just seemed odd because the school has gone above and beyond to enforce social distancing, took out all of the benches and shelves so the hallways could be wider, created smaller classes and provide zoom classes simultaneously with in person classes if you aren't comfortable with in person yet. They temp check, parents aren't allowed in, and everyone must wear a mask unless they are dancing. It just seemed odd for a complaint to arise, but 🤷. Guess there's always that one person.

For those back in school, what are class numbers like? I just counted the sign up list for meet the teacher day and it’s 19. There may be more that haven’t signed up. I was hoping the numbers would be at 15-16, but I guess not. I haven’t seen numbers or a list of classmates but my guess is it’s over 20.

peachsmama I went back and forth on the busing (bussing? They both look weird) issue for several reasons...ease #s, convenience vs. having to get out the door a bit earlier to catch it, the mess that I'm sure the car-line will be with temp checks, etc. Ultimately I decided to let him try it for the first couple weeks and see how things go. Here kids wear masks on the bus, I'm not sure of any other 'distancing' measures other than frequent sanitation. Maybe temp checks? At this point, though, he's been in camp, socializing with friends and is now going to be in school around kids all day anyway, so I don't think another few minutes is ultimately going to make much difference. But that's just me. Same. H would be super bummed if she couldn’t ride the bus. If there are any issues then we could easily switch.

Cadence's teacher sent out individualized schedules for each student. Looks like Cadence will be online roughly from 8-10:15, then again from 12:55-1:15. 3 days a week she will also be online from 11:10-11:55 for specials. It doesn't look too bad. So far she will only know 2 kids in her "class".

guster, B’s school also allows them to take their masks off any time they are outside. They have recess, of course and it seems like they’re trying to do all specials outside too for the time being.

Here's Cadence's schedule. I wrote it out in a dry erase board that will be on the wall next to her desk.

Josie’s class is at 14. She’s the only one home so it’s 13 in person. So far she’s had a 30 minute zoom each afternoon, and she will have the same until Tuesday. Her teacher reads her a story and lets her look at the information for the student of the day. Josie usually asks to read her teacher whatever she’s written for the day. Because of early dismissal days for the first week, they are only working on math and ela so that’s what we’ve been practicing at home.

MH is at school today and tomorrow for meetings. It’s a bunch of different things from 8-1– everything is done by zoom for him to sit alone in his classroom to watch and participate I don’t understand. If they’re planning to send kids in on Tuesday, why can’t they at least allow departments (at the high school the biggest is special Ed at 15 teachers) to sit together in one classroom.

M will be in a class of 23. The assistant teacher said last year they had 26. They sit two to a table and all face the front of the classroom.
I also found at the the afternoon buses will have two departures times and his bus will depart at 215. Much better than 145, so I’ll take it.

We've opted to keep B home for the first quarter, so until No 9th. There are enough kids in his school and classes that we get a teacher and kids remotely that are in his school so that was very comforting. The school is K-9 and 41% of students have opted remote for the first quarter, his classes are sitting at 19, I believe there are 5 grade 2 classes.
3 teachers will be in class studies and 2 will be remote which will stay the same for the year, so if the kids move back and forth from remote to in person the teacher will change which isnt a big deal to me or B at all especially since they're all to teach the curriculum on the same timeline.
I ordered his chromebook last week and on Monday we'll set up his desk for school starting Tuesday. It will be a full days of school with all subjects, meetings via Teams with the same hours as school and early dismissal Thursdays.
Due to the regs in place for daycares J still wouldnt have a preschool room as it was a walk through to other rooms so they've moved some kids around but I am not crazy about the numbers in the rooms. In Nov when she turns 4 she'd move up to the pre-k room.
So we're all home for a while and I've got approval until Oct 1 to stay home, not sure how I'll swing the remaining 6 weeks but that sounds like a next week problem.

I’m curious on if the kids have to wear masks and if there is a plexiglass divider separating the two at each table. Ours are desks with plexiglass and masks. The desks are 4-6ft apart depending on the size of the room. I think they are doing everything possible which is great but I do feel bad for other districts with less money that can only do the minimum.

This is how H’s classroom is set up. The pic is from the “virtual open house” They wear masks inside the building and on the bus.

vino is he at a religious school? Or public? Besides connecting with god, it's fairly similar to our schedule.. we survived week one and I'm impressed with how it's going. Granted mh has been dealing with it mostly since he's off, ask me again in a week when I am working and listening to first grade simultaneously all week😬

So we met the teacher this week. Is anyone else’s 1st graders doing spelling this year. When I mentioned it to R’s mom (L’s GF) she was shocked. They went to a different school starting last year and she said their teacher didn’t mention spelling at all and they are on week 3.
