I used to use brown paper for my book covers and then make collages for them. My geography book had various map pieces, it was so cool. My mom would trade leftover wallpaper with her friends so we could have a different wallpaper print to cover each book. It was like “check out my science book, covered with my Sunday school teacher’s bathroom wallpaper and my math book, sporting our living room florals! I did this one year in high school! I found some vintage wallpaper and covered all my books in them. I loved it .

Our school district sent an email that they arent starting school until September 8, 3 weeks after our original start date. I'm fine with that.
One of my best friends is a teacher and is going through the 1100 page document for school districts. She said there is a release form for parents and teachers to sign in case of death from Covid.
What is this world?

It's official. Got the email today. Either full DL or partial with 2 days a week in class. It didn't even mention if you can switch back. We'll go for partial and see how we feel about using the bus or just transporting ourselves (hopefully I'll be able to WFH).

We just got our plan today. I want excited with the virtual learning description but the more we talked about it there more it makes sense. We are both working from home probably through the end of the year but the school is only asking fit a 9week (quarter) commitment. So we are choosing virtual and leaving more room for essential students. I'm finally at peace with all of it for the first time in weeks

I got a draft of our schools re-opening plan this morning. They have three models. 1. Blended — five full days a week with the students doing versions of remote learning IN the school DURING the day so they get used to the inevitable of what remote learning looks like. 2. The next step down would be hybrid — 2 days on for one group, Wednesdays off to sanitize—two days on for the next group. 3. Then if we have to close, full remote learning.
Masks are required, 6 foot distancing required, classroom cohorts for learning, plexiglass dividers if they have to work one on one with a teacher. They will either eat in the classroom or in the cafeteria with one other cohort (so far the largest class is at 14 and the smallest is at 9) They will have outdoor recess but not on the playground. Designated bathrooms for the cohorts, markers on the floor for the older kids who might have to switch classes, and no water coolers (we don’t have fountains just big jugs of Poland Spring) in the school. They will have emergency water available and bottles but you are asked to bring enough of your own to get you through the day. Phys ed and STEAM will happen every other day The remaining specials (tech, art, and music will no longer rotate on a schedule, but rather be offered individually for a trimester.

I have a tour set up on Thursday w the school associated w our church. They are doing 5 days/week in person (small class sizes, CDC guidelines in place, etc.)
The public schools (where B was for K) still haven’t made an official announcement here so I don’t want to wait and then it turn out to be 100% virtual. I believe only 2 counties in MD have turned in their plans for the year and they are both starting out 100% virtual. I just feel like most other districts will follow suit.

yummeecookee guster if you can get small class sizes, that is awesome. Ours are still going to be 20ish and difficulty allowing distance. One if our issues is being within 6ft of someone for 15 min who tests positive means you have to quarantine for 10 days. I don't see a consistent learning experience if that keeps happening. We're hoping by staying home it helps those working parents who don't have a choice. yummeecookee I hope it's a decent school tour

BTW our plan is now official: 100% virtual through Jan 29. After that, they will then identify targeted students who may benefit from a hybrid version of in class and virtual lessons. IDk what targeted students are, my guess is those on IEP, maybe SN or those in under privileged areas.

We are sticking with virtual public, our county just clarified yesterday that we are remote all semester too. Which I think is the right choice given the circumstances.

The state of KS BOE had a meeting today and confirmed that they will not follow the governors orders to wait until after Labor Day to reopen schools. They are allowing each district to make their own decisions. Which makes sense because there are some very sparse areas in this state with small school districts that have likely seen 0 cases. Versus the KC Metro that is having a huge increase in cases currently.
I have no idea what this means for us, although I can't imagine being on a school board that has to make these kind of decisions.

Just as I expected, our county pushed the start date back to Sept. 3rd.
I’m kinda relieved because I couldn’t see us starting in person in two weeks with our current circumstances. Our gov announced today that 20 hospitals in the state have no ICU beds.
While I don’t want to do full virtual learning, I would feel better about an AB schedule. If our numbers decrease over the next month, I may feel different.

We got our plan. We start after labor day and will be done before memorial day. Kids have to wear masks all day, all grades. They will add more lunch times so less kids will be in the cafeteria at a time. They'll have recess but due to the governors order, the equipment can't be used. So I'm waiting on an email from the administration about what recess will look like. Wednesday we'll get the virtual learning option for those that don't want too back. Also no shared supplies.
A and I agreed that Matthew should decide. We explained about the masks and not being able to touch his classmates and he wants to go. So we started practicing today with wearing masks. He wore it to the bird food shop and did great. I ordered a few more and he wants a dinosaur one lol. If its an all out fail or he's not thriving, we will reevaluate and go from there.

I’m reeling here that one of the counties (not mine) in my state has mandated that private schools must begin the year virtually through at least October. I don’t want this idea to spread right when I got B’s schooling sorted out!

I don’t want this idea to spread right when I got B’s schooling sorted out! I thought of you when I saw that here, it's kind of weird that daycares are allowed to operate but not some schools if they are able to meet recommendations. My county has been def the slowest to reopen since we had some of the most cases at the beginning. I also have some feelings about the rush to private, but all kind of mixed up. Like I want to look into it/jealous of friends from home signed up, but also sad that it is just going to increase disparity so much. That said, the private schools in the area are insanely priced, so not am option for us, so I need to let it go. I am aware that I am going to struggle with back to school pictures this year and prob should limit social media.

tallb I’m still doing a back to school photo, even though we’ll be virtual. I’m not on social media so it will just be for me and the grandparents though.

I'm mostly sad that N isn't going anywhere though, so she's just going to be home with us and her online school is ending since they are opening back up at half capacity 😔

I didn’t do an end of the school year photo for B this summer bc I was just in a bad state of mind/angry/depressed etc over everything that was going on. But I def want to make sure I get a 1st day pic this year.
