guster is your husband going to have to go back as of now? Yes. A/B schedule with rotating Wednesday. Masks (even during socially distancing), and no shared materials. He’s miserable about it.

jewels , only half days? ThTs a tough plan. yup 4 hours. And if I ever go back to work, it's an hour drive... so, not sure how that would work. I've been talking to a few other families about a pod to do distance learning together and hiring a teacher for those days. But I'm starting to think it's all going to lock down anyway and we'll all be virtual.

Elementary is currently planning 4 days a week of at least 4.5 hours a day for all students with before and aftercare available with an all virtual option for those who want that. It will probably all be shut down by the governor but I’m impressed with what I see so far.

Nope I think it’s just to get to the full amount of hours that is expected without having to deal with lunch at school. They only released a quick 1 page summary and I believe the more detailed plan should come out soon.

We have a zoom meeting in a bit with our principal. I'm interested to see what he says because the email he sent out looks like our school will be different than the school districts plan, as far as distance learning goes.

Austin ISD just pushed the first day of school back to Sept. 8th and petitioned the TEA to delay in person until Nov.
I think it's dumb to think we can go back to in person in early Nov. and then have Thanksgiving and Christmas break. January will bring a new spike because people will be visiting family over the holidays and school will just have to close again.
They also want to extend the school day by 10 minutes and the school year will end June 3rd.

L’s school just pushed back the first day of school to September 8th as well. I’m not happy about that. I rather distance learn then delay for the chance to meet in person.

I think we all- including school admin- believed everything was going to be fine and schools would definitely be back to a normal schedule once August came. They were probably only planning for DL breaks, not actually starting out the year or doing it long term. This sucks for sure because we need to know what the next few months will look like so we can plan accordingly.

Well, Cadence will be starting Aug. 18th as planned. The School of Mom needs her back on a schedule and actually doing something during the day. There are no more day camp options because they assumed school was starting. I'll have her start reviewing all the kindergarten stuff, so that once first grade actually starts she'll be ready to go.

I figured it would all change back and forth a bunch. It's so frustrating. I understand the school's position, of course I understand the working parent position. There are no winners. It sucks all around. My girls were so disappointed when in person school was cancelled. :/

Our county pushed the start date back til 8/31 (from 8/10) to give extra supplies, etc. a chance to arrive, but we seem to be on track to go back in person if that is the option you choose. Our school has been communicating well and I feel good about everything; I just pray the train stays on the track. C starts preschool on the 19th.

I know Cuomo just realized new guidance but I haven’t heard anything from Charlie’s preschool. I will have to give them a ring once we’re back and settled in.

Our school board approved full, in person school for all grades. Masks are required. Distance learning will be available for anyone who chooses not to go In person. Start date is 8/31 but they may discuss pushing it back 2 days (??) to give more time to prepare.
This gets re-evaluated weekly based on numbers from the previous 2 weeks. Our county just had its first “outbreak” late last week, due to a local produce processing plant starting back up for fall. Hopefully this won’t impact anything for school.

There is a re entry plan for our schools boards, the province is returning to near normal. The school board has broken up the year into quarters and parents have the choice to do distance learning or in class instruction on a per quarter basis with the decision being made 3 weeks prior to the quarter beginning. The first quarter decision has to be made by this Friday. I'm at a loss as to what to choose.
Some specifics include: On the bus Public Schools • Students with symptoms will not be allowed on to school buses. Students will have to physical distance while getting on and off the bus. • Kids in Grades 4 to 12 will be required to wear masks as long as they are physically and psychologically able to do so. Younger students are being asked to wear masks. There will be assigned seats on buses that limit close contact with others and seat kids from the same house together.
Catholic schools • Students and parents with COVID-19 symptoms should not be near the bus loading zone. Once on the bus, kids will have an assigned seating area with students from the same house sitting together. • Schools will be asked to make their own bus plans to limit contact. These plans may include loading students from the back to the front and outlining how many kids sit in each row of seats. • A mask will be made available to anyone on the bus who develops symptoms while in transit. Each bus will be cleaned to a higher standard and contact tracing will be followed if any children test positive.
Arriving at school Public schools • Students will have an assigned door they must use to enter and exit the school. When they arrive at school, students will go to an area outside their door and wait. Staff will be outside to remind kids to distance and a faculty member will bring them inside. • Temperatures will not be checked each morning at schools. • Parents are asked to stay in their vehicles if they are dropping their children off at school. They will not be allowed in the building without an appointment.
Catholic schools • Parents are being asked to remain in their vehicles when dropping their children off at school.
In the classroom Public schools • Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 are being asked to wear masks if they are able to do so. Older students have to wear masks in classrooms. • Students will be assigned seating at school and teachers are planning lessons that reduce the need to share materials. If materials are shared they must be cleaned and disinfected after each use.
Catholic schools • Students in Grades 4-12 will be mandated to wear masks if physical distancing is not possible. ECS is asking younger students to wear masks. • Staff are encouraged to teach outside when possible. • They are also asked to create plans for students to regularly clean their desks and chairs. Schools will be cleaned thoroughly every evening.
Recess Public schools • Students will stay with their classes for recess. Schools are asked to have assigned areas outside that promote distancing between cohorts. Schools can stagger break times to promote physical activity while still maintaining proper physical distancing.
Catholic schools • Recess will be staggered throughout the day to allow for more space between students.
Lunch Public schools • All students have to wash their hands before eating and will only be allowed to eat their own food. Parents will not be allowed to bring lunches to school if a student forgets theirs at home. • Microwaves will not be available and students cannot order food to the school. • Elementary students will remain with their class to eat lunch. • All food served at schools will be in pre-packaged portions and shared condiments will not be allowed.
Catholic schools • Lunch times will be staggered as much as possible to keep students distanced. Food and drink sharing is discouraged.
Throughout the day Public schools • Students will need to submit a request to access materials from their school library. All materials will be disinfected between each use. • There will be posters and other visual cues to remind students to properly distance while in the hallways. Use of common areas will be limited. Lockers will not be available to students. • Junior and senior high schools will decide if students are allowed to leave campus during the day. • If a student tests positive the medical officer of health in that health zone will work with school authorities to identify close contacts. They will create isolation measures when necessary and provide followup recommendations.
Catholic schools • Staff will move throughout the school as much as possible to prevent students from having to switch classes. Students will be organized into smaller groups that remain with one another as much as possible. • If a student at a Catholic school tests positive, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) will be notified. OHS and AHS will then work with school staff on further recommendations and protocols.

Our start got pushed back from 8/31-9/14 to allow for more prep. We won’t know if it’s in person or distance until 8/31.

On my Parents’ Zoom call earlier this week, they said they expect about 9-10 kids in the class, with the rest having chosen to attend virtually. So I like that. There will be no bad weather closures- they can just do class virtual! 😝
They’re still working out what will be the process of a teacher or student tests positive for COVID. Hmm, that seems like a pretty impt process that needs to be decided ASAP. 🤨

We finally kind of have a plan. Everyone will be virtual the month of September with the plan to slowly transition into full face to face learning for those who choose after that. We have opted to do fully virtual for the first trimester (I had no idea they did trimesters) so that will take us until early December. I want to hang tight and see how this all unfolds.
I'm not sure what we'll do for L though. I'd just pull her out of preschool but this is her last year of school before K and she's SO attached to me that I know it'd be so good for her to go...

When asked what the plan would be if somebody does get the virus our supt/principal said he didn’t want to lead us astray and give us lipservice but the state hasn’t given them guidance on that so they’re as much in the dark as we are.

So far the plan is to break the first day of school in half: so H will go on the 27th with half of her class, have the 28th off and then everyone will go on the 30th. They will do full, in person learning until I hear otherwise. All 1st graders will get an iPad assigned to them, which will be very nice for when we inevitably end up virtual. Mask are not required but “expected”.
Preschool said they will do only in person learning all year, no virtual. No masks required. I feel like they are on their way to an outbreak but we’ll see.
