Our school is planning traditional school. The classes are already small. L’s will be 10 this year I think. Masks are mandatory for everyone except for preschoolers. Temp checks at beginning of school and at lunch. Sanitizing stations only classrooms along with more time for washing hands. They will give the option to distance learn if the parent wants.

We wanted him to have a smaller class for kindergarten and the costs aren’t too bad compared to what we would have to pay for after school care at the public school year.

Temp checks would be a disaster for my kid, he has been bad about keeping his temperature under control since birth. He’ll easily overheat or drop really low because of how he’s dressed or because of temperatures outside/inside.

Why do you hate to see them eat lunches at desks? I guess my thoughts were that they would miss social interactions and not getting that separation from their learning space, if that makes sense. Kind of like how they say you should actually take a lunch break at work and not wat at your desk (although I admit I did that all the time when in the office) Lunch in the classroom doesn't bother me (my kids' school doesn't even have a cafeteria so that's where they eat anyway). I completely understand why, but it does make me a little sad they won't have assemblies, field trips, little to no opportunities to interact with friends in other classes. I just have to remind myself this is only temporary.

M’s school doesn’t even have desks in the smaller grades. They have tables that sit 6 kids I think. I would be ok with them eating at their tables this year. I just hope they reduce it to 4 per table this year. We only got the superintendent’s letter. I’m curious to see what our school says will happen. I don’t think we will get that info until end of month at least.

It was a lot of stations, a lot of walking around through the classroom and the wing to sit in the hallway and work individually with a teacher or to work together on some thing for math or reading. I wonder if the schools have extra desks or the money to purchase these things. I think lunch in the classroom would be fine. I don’t think a lot of the kids in kindergarten buy their lunches, but Josie also has a very tiny class. Anyone hearing anything about specials? Would they push in?

I don’t understand how every other day schedules would work for people that have to work and/or have multiple kids that may have different schedules. My neighbor, who teaches 5th grade, and I were actually talking about this today. There’s no way it could work for her because she needs to work 5 days a week and her 3rd grader can’t be home alone for 2-3 days of the week. They did say siblings would be on the same days. MH should still be working from home and C will be at his daycare lady’s house but the days I work and my kids are home, T will probably play Minecraft all day.

My own classroom is a former book closet with 2 tables. We were told plastic dividers have been ordered for tables. The most I can have in my room pre-pandemic is 9 so I guess worst case, I have 4-5 each class each day.

If it were just my room, it would have been fine but I share with 2 other teachers. We were not there at the same time ever with students but having all of our things there made it tight. Two of us had sixth graders, the third teacher had 9 boys in 8th grade. They were like full grown men, I don’t know how she fit them. The 6th graders were still mostly little kids. I had some wanderers and one hider so it gave them less places to wander/hide so it was alright.

I went to a private school and we ate in our classrooms until middle school. I'm not worried about that modification at all.
Our county just announced tentative plans and will start virtual for all, then bring back transition age kids (k, 6, 9) and then 2-4 weeks later bring in 1/2, and then the rest. It will be two groups, so some will go mom/Tues and the other will be Thur/Fri. Or you can opt to be all virtual.
We are now desk and printer shopping. I don't know how it will be once there's the inevitable outbreak, but may just opt to do virtual. I'm worried about teachers not having sufficient PPE to protect themselves.

So I don’t really take the kids out of the house. While I’m looking forward to him physically going to school I’m gettin anxiety about it as well. Each day he’s been wearing a mask a little longer so he can get use to it. However he’s not great at it. How’s everyone else’s kids doing with the mask?

School lunch does not exist over here, all kids k-6 eat their own lunch in their class room.

chrisy01 evie is good about it, but she sees me and knows I wear one. I've taken her to target once and the grocery store a few times now. She has to wear her mask the entire time and we always talk about not touching things unnecessarily. It also helped to let her pick her mask, then shes excited about it.

I think keeping her hands to herself and not touching things is harder for Cadence than wearing a mask. She had to wear her mask all day for one of her camps and she was fine with it. She says she forgets it's even on after awhile.

My kids have only needed masks at the ice cream store for 2 minutes and at doctor appointments, they haven’t been anywhere else. I’m trying to convince my older 2 to give contacts a try because they have trouble with glasses fogging and Dd complains the elastic from the mask plus the glasses is a lot on her ears.

B (almost 4 now) wears his briefly at day care (only in common areas like the hallway) but with zero complaints - I do think that's due to peer pressure. S has only worn it here and there for short times. I did take him shopping the other day for the first time and he wore it in all the stores with zero complaints. But the boy loves shopping (like his mama). I don't know how he'd do for a whole day.

The kids havent been in masks much. We’re really still just hanging here. If we go out for a pick up or to ride scooters, I make them bring them and put them on at some point (even though they’re near no one) I figure a little bit of the exposure to wearing them is helpful. The more MH and I talk, the more we think we will keep them home for whatever kind of distance-learning the schools offers.

I feel like I can't make a decision about school till it gets closer. I am just so torn.

My states numbers look decent now, but I live in a tiny state and it's only a matter of time before it comes back.

We just bought all of Evie's school supplies (minus the pencil box because they want an odd size and wet wipes). I'm sure the needs will change before schools reopen but I'll return or donate what we don't need.
I know this year will be different, but for now, I'm operating on the belief she is going. Mentally, I cant handle another option, I just dont know how we would make it work and until I'm forced to acknowledge (school district confirms plans), I'm just going on as normal.

Huh, I guess I stand corrected on classroom lunches 😁 I hate the idea too. Cs lunches are fun. There’s usually something special done each day. Like Friday’s the last five mins each class gets to tell a joke/riddle. I’m sad he will miss it. He’s gotten a lot more confident with food too seeing all the others eat hot lunch. It’s not the worst but I hear you!

C has been pretty good with the mask. He had to wear it for a haircut the other day and complained once but otherwise is ok. Like klong11’s C, getting him to not touch all the things has been harder.

My girls have been wearing masks for a little while. Anytime we have gone into a store and for all of my weekly chiro appts. H is ok for a little while but I think she wants to take it off when it’s hot, and I can’t blame her.

M wears his fine. Only a few quick trips in stores, but he does good. When I told him he would have to wear it in school, he wasn’t thrilled.
Since M started camp, I’ll probably send him to school unless numbers are much worse. If they are worse, I’ll probably have no choice any way. I was hoping to start him on the bus this year, but we will be driving him to school again to leave room for the kids that need it. Not sure what I will do about aftercare if I need it. I may have to talk to my jobs and see if it’s ok that I leave early to pick him up. I think I will wait to see what MH’s schedule will be like.

Someone posted on one of our city's FB pages about the expected mask requirement, what are you doing to make your kids do? It's about 50/50 people saying they will send their kids vs one of the online/virtual options. I'm just like, what do these people do for a living that that many people in our community are okay doing online education? Granted, I don't know their kids ages, but I just can't imagine. We talked to Evie about it last night, likely wearing a mask all day, eating lunch at her desk, and she's fine with it.
Our school board has a meeting tonight to discuss, so hopefully we will have more information this week, since school starts in a month.

Our school is trying to hold traditional school but they are waiting for state/county to make a decision. They said if the kids go to school they will be required to wear a mask. I’m thinking of signing him up for their summer program for one day a week but I’m still not 100% comfortable with that yet.

Our district starts the Tuesday after labor day. September 8th I think. And supposedly we'll be done before memorial day. Last I heard, students 3rd grade and under dont have to wear masks. Everything I've heard says that we will at least start out mostly normal. But no definite plan has been revealed yet. We're supposed to get more information mid-July.
We live in a very rural area with a small population. I'm hoping our school will be mostly normal and we won't have a set back. M is so excited for school lunches and having recess. I'd hate for him to be disappointed. J did not make the first cut for preschool at the elementary school. If he doesn't get a spot then he'll go to the sane one as this past year.
