sctiger That sounds wonderful. I really feel like the posters here would be safe to travel and recreate elsewhere. Everything I read from you all is thoughtful and careful. I wish more people could be responsible like this when vacationing.

I think if you ask most kids, "would you rather try home school again or go to school, but you have to wear a mask?" they would choose mask. It's all about mindset and I can't deal with the whiners anymore. For sure. My kids are sick of me.

So we are at Isle of Palms which is near Charleston. We are with my ILs (who have been smart about everything), husband's aunt (from an area in NC where people are strict and being smart), and BIL and his two boys. We had originally hoped to be able to go do stuff in Charleston but that's not happening. I feel like people are actually being pretty good here. We are at the house and going to the pool in the backyard and the beach. The beach looks fine, most people look to be in clusters with people they are staying with. There's one grocery store on the island and almost everyone wears a mask and the store makes announcements reminding people about social distancing. We are cooking at home. We've gone out to get coffee and the coffee shop requires masks and we're in and out quickly. I think a lot of the beach cases have to do with people also crowding in bars and restaurants and stuff like that. I don't feel like we're putting ourselves at a big increased risk vs being at home and being with family has been very good for everyone. Welcome to town! Lots of restaurants are still doing to go if you get tired of cooking. Hop over the bridge to Sullivan's Island for some froses at The Co-op!

I just watched the local sheriff’s department enforce NYS’s mask law at a Stewart’s Shop (the gas-milk-ice cream store). They first tried to help the dude out by offering him a mask to wear. When he declined, they removed him from the premises and ticketed him. NYS plays hardball. 😳

Looks like our school board is voting to push start of school year back 2 weeks so they have time to get their shit together. I hope more districts do this. I don’t understand what the rush is. This isn’t like anything we’ve ever experienced, so why not take a little extra time to get shit together instead of fuck it, let’s see what happens. We all had to deal with that back in March and it was a total shit show. How do these people not learn their lesson? I watched the school board meeting today and at one point one of the board members asked the superintendent if distance learning would be done on like a Zoom platform or modules. He didn't know. We're supposed to start 8/3. So like yeah, a delay is warranted.

A already does for his hour long therapy appointments. He was never presented with a choice. Make it a school rule and allow exceptions for kids with valid reasons. 🤷♀️

I know my school system sets the calendar more than a year in advance, and I assume there are contracts involved that make it difficult to make changes down the road. That makes sense. I guess I was thinking they may have possibly had an in case of emergency plan, on the off chance something crazy/catastrophic happens. It’s definitely going to be an interesting year.

So I realized what annoyed me about the survey. You had to make a decision without knowing the plans. 🙄🤦♀️
Like I would prefer in school but if your plan sucks I don’t get to choose virtual.

They're a lot more adaptable and community minded than adults. And kids in Asian countries have been doing the mask thing for a lot longer than this. The whole "kids will NEVER wear a mask" makes me scratch my head. My kid is better about his mask than I am and I'm a stickler.

dc2londonWe are in NJ. I have no clue of homeschool laws here. It is so frustrating because masks are required age 2 and up in stores, inside, etc but in schools as long as kids can distance masks are encouraged. 🤦♀️🤬🙄 I have few kind words for our governor right now. And many teachers including myself don’t feel comfortable in the classroom if kids aren’t required to have masks. If masks aren't mandated here I will just beg my OB to write me out the full year for my maternity leave. I'm not bringing covid home to my infant when I go back. Hell no. Our flu season was super bad this year. I have sinks in my room and between those and hand sanitizer I was constantly cleaning my hands. And that's the flu, which is awful but doesn't freak me out because we know the flu. Any time a kid handed me something I was sanitizing myself the second I set it down. I'm sure my crazy will get worse once I'm back to work this year. It's not just about the kids that's for damn sure. The staff needs to be safe too. The people our kids go home to need to be safe too. And honestly, I see a lot more kids who are super compliant and don't even care they're in masks. The adults are the whiny assholes about it. Kids are resilient. Like my god, masks are not that hard!

I wish we were within driving distance to family but also as HCWs we don’t feel comfortable putting our parents at risk so we will be lonely for awhile. We went to Michigan (south haven) for two days last week and did similar. Beach but far away from others and wore our masks until we finished setting up our spot. Masks in all restaurants until the food appeared and grocery stores. Got beer/cider from breweries and drank in our hotel room. When we got to the hotel room we wiped every single surface down with disinfectant wipes, including the fabric on the couch and pulled the sheets down. Didn’t walk without shoes on. Perhaps a bit excessive but we wanted to do something and figured this was a fair compromise for our safety and enjoyment.

Want to move to Connecticut? If it weren't for family I would be long gone. Between this and it being one of the lowest paying states for my career I'm not too thrilled to be stuck here.

My 5 year old wore her mask for 2 hours last week for an eye appointment and she never bothered with it once or asked to take it off. And I have already had a few conversations with her and my niece and nephew about masks in school and they are all about it. They just want to be back in school.

My MIL invited us to their house for the 4th. We've had two outdoor gatherings with them at our house but they don't really have the space to do it at their house. Plus there would also be MH's aunt, cousin, and two of my BIL's girlfriends. MH right away told her no that it's too many people and I'm glad it didn't have to become a thing.
But I'm worried for this weekend. So many people are going to have big gatherings. We had our second highest case day today. And the two counties that were struggling are starting to get better but now our metro is having a huge increase. I was feeling pretty good because our zipcode was only at 50 cases a few weeks ago and now we are over 100. My city's numbers are going up so now I'm a little more worried even going out for groceries.

Plan A was full class sizes and masks required where social distancing can’t be kept (which it won’t be able to with full class sizes I’m guessing). The email said spend the summer getting your kids ready to wear a mask for the full day. The day will be shorter because they aren’t serving lunch but it’s still going to be hours long. There was talk of “mask breaks” that will be scheduled (I’m guessing to eat snack). I hope your district follows suit!

My kid keeps saying he never wants to go back to school. Send help. Oh, yeah, I sat the eldest down yesterday and asked how he felt about doing distance learning through next June and he was PUMPED. I felt very......"That's not how I anticipated this going, but ok." But then he sat down and coded an entire webpage for me....

I know you have the extra layer of worry with your DD, so you should rightfully be pissed. We've already been told by our admins that we should be expected to be in masks all day whenever we go back. I don't see Cuomo making it an option.
