My School district released their potential hybrid plan. They have group 1 going Monday/Tuesday and group 2 going Wednesday/THursday with everyone home on Fridays. Honestly it doesn't make much sense. When are they going to have time to do deep cleaning between the groups?

Otherwise the students would be sharing workspaces and germs with the other cohort. Which is contrary to the whole idea really.

We are going to have to cut Florida off from the rest of the country.
We have family there too. Mostly all high risk due to age. I’m worried for them.

My ILs are high risk too, but I'm encouraged they were actually using masks. Dammit I should have sent them off with extra gloves. We had a situation with N this morning and I completely forgot.

I've been bitching about my kid because he's almost 15 months and you can't take an eye off of him because he regularly tries to either completely bash all of the teeth out of his mouth, eat something that will inevitably kill him, and/or fling himself down stairs, but I feel so much for you guys who have to navigate the school situation. I cannot imagine how I'd feel debating sending him back to school with 20+ kids in a single room. This is such a no win situation for both the parents, the kids, and the staff.

Even with the increase in cases I feel like so many people in FL that I’ve seen are being very breezy about it. In person sports are continuing practices, people aren’t wearing masks and are floored other states have had mandates for months. I actually saw someone post they couldn’t believe Florida is being considered a hot spot.

Add me to school woes. We've always split child care between center based and my parents. My dad finally spoke up today that he's not comfortable with my LO coming to their house if she's going to care, which she started on monday. My mom would happily sacrifice her life to be able to see my kids. So I'm in the middle. I don't want to cause them harm, obv. There are zero active cases in my town right now. But I'm sure it'll go up. And MA is pushing for in person school in the fall for my older one, who they watch after school. So its just the same shit I've been up at night worrying about, only he finally is talking about it after the last few months of denial at my alerts. Is 2020 over yet?

I am just aghast that it's July and things are worse than they were 3-4 months ago.
My school district has given no concrete plans and I'm starting to have little hope for the eventual plan being decent because TX.

cakewench i think they need to figure something out but I don’t necessarily know that a blanket $600 is the right answer. At least in my area, many are saying they are doing so much better financially because of it then working and have no hurry to go back. The added $600 a week is more than many with college degrees still working make in my area. So I can see why people are frustrated. They need to figure out a way that isn’t causing people to want to stay home on UI because it’s better financially but also benefits those that can’t find work. But I don’t know how they would do it

I think the new studies that show it cant live very long on surfaces, it's more breathing in the drops in the air probably influenced them too. As a teacher, I'm still trying to figure out how I would make the hybrid model work successfully. It hurts my brain, but still seems better than all remote learning. So I'm just trying to be patient waiting for more info from my district.

Granted it’s screen time most of the time but it’s something. My nephew is 18 months old and my employee has a 15 month old and both of those situations seem way harder when I talk to them. And then my friends with teenagers who are just like “we can’t keep them locked in the house forever” and I feel for them. We are all struggling in our own situations. This sucks.

NYC and NJ are halting plans to begin limited indoor dining. Unfortunately, I think that's the right call. But this part from the end of the NYT article really jumps screaming off the page: Heather C. Briccetti, the president of the Business Council of New York State, said that the pause on reopening indoor dining rooms re-emphasized the fragility of the state’s recovery, and the need for federal help for small businesses and the local governments that rely on their sales tax. “I think it highlights the need for the feds to get their act together,” Ms. Briccetti said, adding that “local government has lost their shirts” in the crisis. Ms. Briccetti added that the sudden change of plans for restaurants — some of whom had bought perishable food items in expectation of heavier demand next week — would add to their travails. A tale of two masks...
I had to run to a flooring store to pick out replacement flooring for an insurance thing we are trying to finish up. There were about 6 employees and 3 other customers in the store and besides me, ZERO wearing masks. The other customers and the employees were just milling around the front counter chatting.
After that, I ran to Kohl's because I needed to do an Amazon return and they do those there where they handle the packing and shipping and everything (which is awesome, by the way). Every single employee and customer were wearing masks. I didn't see a bare face in the store.
I really just need people to put fucking masks on. I am full of rage about it today.

I don't know what we are going to do about school. Our state's PED plan is to do hybrid with 50% capacity in person classes. Our district will release their plan on the 17th. The Mon/Tues off Wed then Thurs/Fri rotation sounds the best because we already have half day/early release on Wednesdays. But I don't know.
My nephew was diagnosed with asthma when he was 5 but no longer needs daily medication just needs a nebulizer if he gets a bad respiratory virus. I need to talk to my sister more and see if she feels comfortable with them going back to in person a few days or if she doesn't want to send them. I'm already torn on if I should send DD1 for Kindergarten or keep her home since MH and I are more at risk. Making these decisions seems so daunting.

I do wonder how much better blue states could have fared if masks had been encouraged early on.

I do wonder how much better blue states could have fared if masks had been encouraged early on. A lot. Because the lingering in the community likely happened due to essential business still happening and people not wearing masks. Because we were friggin told not to. The Bay Area shut down so early and so tightly and if we would have added masks for anyone who had to be out back I think we could have been close to eradicating it. Such a damn shame.
