It’s been a very busy around here. Today is officially first day of furlough for most of my company. I’ve already been called twice about things. I caved in and got a membership to shipt. Got my first delivery last night and my next one is this afternoon. The first store didn’t have over half the things we needed. My work had a special,$50 for a full year. So we will have it for a year.

I went for a run with DD, definitely not a 5k yet. I was huffing and puffing, she hadn’t broken a sweat yet. We did a birthday parade for a girl around the corner and tonight I have a Zoom Bachelorette party because this was supposed to be bachelorette weekend. The wedding is officially moved to August so hopefully there will be a real bachelorette party but it is the bride’s birthday today also so we are still doing this now.

I will try Too Hot To Handle. I’ve been binging shows with some coworkers and we discuss in a group chat. I will suggest that next. We did Love is Blind, Tiger King, and Ozarks (but we didn’t do Ozarks together really).

Remember how I said I was going to do the least today? I’m a big fat liar. I have been outside basically all day. I potted up some seedlings and started pulling grass and weeds out of my flower beds. Whoops.

We have been into British shows lately. We watched Broadchurch. Good but heavy. Then we watched The Inbetweeners which is hilarious and totally what we needed. Both on Netflix.
I’m also watching Dr Foster by myself. I haven’t decided if I like it or not but I think I’m starting the third season. I think I just don’t like any of the characters.

We went for a long bike ride today and I stopped at my parents to drop off Tupperware and we chatted for almost an hour six feet away. Well mostly- I had to yell at my mom a couple of times.
PDQ: Our school is doing gratitude day today and the students were asked to make a sign for their lawn about what they are grateful for. A neighbor that I’ve become good acquaintances with had POTUS 45 on their list of things they are grateful for. When I saw that it was like all these things came together in my head like the time she referred to homeless people as bums or when she said the Chinese were unsanitary. I have legit been perturbed about this all day because of all the things right now I cannot see being grateful for his leadership.

Well I’m about to order a refrigerator. M2 pulled out some waffles earlier and they were soft. Looked in the fridge and my bottled water had condensation on the outside. Checked the temps and it was back up to 58 and the freezer was higher, unlike last time. We pulled it out and there was condensation on the back. It’s not normal for refrigerators to “sweat” on the back right?
I hope they can deliver it tomorrow. The temps are actually going back down now, but I am not willing to play this game.

Every once in a while someone will mention it and I'm like oh yea, I did go to culinary school 🤷♀️

I’m so glad I didn’t make a Costco run today for milk and eggs and other stuff. We bought coolers and whatnot Thursday, so Mh just ran to get ice in case we need to put it all back in the coolers.

So I just got emails from the p.e., music, and art teachers. They are going to start doing video lessons that the kids will be needing to turn in for grades on top of the normal assignments from their actual teachers. I feel like these should be optional, not mandatory. I'm feeling very pressured now. Like p.e. seriously? Music? I can't do all of this.

So happy you got the fridge. Appliance delivery is curbside only here. My neighbor’s dryer broke and she can’t get a new one because she doesn’t think she can haul it into her basement. I feel like a jerk because I can’t offer to let her use mine.

It says available for delivery tomorrow, but I am not sure if they will actually bring it now. I placed and order and canceled it. I looked at the reviews on the one I wanted and they all say the ice maker leaks and randomly spits out ice. Looking at reviews are scary. I literally still don’t know what to buy. All the models apparently have issues according to these reviews and I’m very confused on what to buy but I NEED something. 😩😩😩

Last two weeks there’s been an assignment for library. I’m not doing them. They are busy work and the amount of time and stress it takes to get him to do something he isn’t learning from isn’t worth it. PE at least we just have to turn in a a few notes about what activities he did.

I’m overwhelmed so I have decided I will work on reading and writing and a bit of math is a plus. Anything else, I can’t worry about. My older kids had 6 years of elementary Spanish and they can count and they know the colors, not stressing for that. If they were fluent, I’d do it. T watches all those hunting and fishing and living in the wild shows. He told me I don’t need to worry about going to Costco anymore because he can hunt and cook squirrels. #killingthishomeschoolingstuff

By the end of the day she was singing along. I'm counting that as this week's music lesson.

That's insane to have mandatory assignments for the specials. Busy work should not be a thing now.

We have work for the specials but it is quick Examples - for music there was a video with 3 or 4 songs and they had to listen to it and say which song was their favorite. Library was just the librarian reading a book then draw a picture of something from the book. And gym was just a bunch of ideas of things but we had nothing to submit.
All in all I am pretty happy with what we are doing.
I can't remember if I said this but our principal had a meeting where he basically said finish what you can. As long as you get some reading every day the rest is fine. If you don't get the math lesson in, have them help cook dinner, if you don't get the writing in, have them write a letter to their grandparents, etc.
We've also been lucky that I am barely working, so I can do it all with him.

That's insane to have mandatory assignments for the specials. Busy work should not be a thing now. Seriously. That is crazy to me. Our specials are uploading "optional" activities once a week or so. But they are by no means required...it's just something to do if have the time/inclination. B did an art project one week and it was very basic...using household materials to make something you'd seen on a walk, etc. eta: meanwhile you've got certain school districts where participation in virtual/online school is less than 40% and the teachers can't track the kids down. Those are the kids/families I'm worried about...not whether Mackenzie and Jacob finish their art project.

H had a music assignment. It was to read a book alternating pages in high and low pitches. Then I emailed the music teacher a pic of the book and said she did it. No biggie. I would be annoyed if it was a huge thing.
ETA: for art she had to make a 3D flower out of something she could find at home. She used play doh. Sent a pic to the art teacher and done.

We have no music or art. Nothing has to be submitted to her teacher. Today: Reading, saying 3 sets of words with the long A sound (train, game, hay) Well-Being, talk to someone about 3 things you are thankful for Math, Build 2 dimensional shapes such as rectangles, square, triangles using toothpicks, marshmallows, straws, grapes, cheese balls, etc. Writing, discuss chores you like to help with at home and draw a picture of you helping. Label each chore. Science/social studies: Read ant facts and discuss what you learned about their body parts. Specials, Pick a song to sing and have a sing along with your family.
Each of these have another similar option, then a challenge. There is also something tech enhanced on a school sponsored website. The tech enhanced are her favorite. This is very similar every week day and lasts no more than 45 minutes.

Josie has an assignment each week for all her specials — art, tech, health, and steam usually have a book to listen to and a cute activity to follow. They don’t really feel like schoolwork, and I can typically incorporate it into a craft or they playtime that they were doing anyway. Music usually sends a video with vocal warms up (we do not do this) and then pe is an activity form. I am not following my kids around with a stopwatch, so I list what they do on a typical day and hope that’s enough.

The assignments are necessarily hard but when you have to fight your kid to draw a fact about what they read it becomes ridiculous. If he was into doing the stuff it would all be no big deal. But we have to push him for everything so I don't want to waste that on busy work.

I have to work to get him to draw whatever. He loves to draw, but only whatever he is interested in and on his own time.
