rugger I keep being told “we’re all family!” as if that means you can’t spread it the virus you one another?! 🤔🤔 mind you these are large groups of extended family members, not people who live in the same home or would otherwise be in the same “bubble”.

rugger I’m not eating indoors yet, period. A private room sounds terrible. If anything, rent out a whole restaurant so every family can sit at separate tables. Lol. But really, outdoors is the responsible choice. I don’t understand why people aren’t erring on the side of caution. Do they know no one who has died of Covid? Can they not even imagine such a thing?

Right?! And S was like "do you want me to just go and fly and you all stay here?" 🙄🙄 No! I just want them to be freaking responsible and take out-of-state/not-in-their-bubble people into consideration!

Can someone who works in any field except education answer a question for me, please? Have you ever presented both a problem and a proposal for a solution that would cost your workplace nothing and put all of the extra work on yourself, just to be told no because “if we say yes to you we’d have to say yes to everyone”? I honestly don’t know if this is standard in all professions.

rugger what state? I dunno why I’m remembering Maine? But you can’t travel there or here in MA without a negative test or quarantine. I assume other reasonable states have the same.

(Maine is where my brother got married 😉) I'll have to look up their laws. S's sister was being super cautious, but now that her kids are back in baseball and cheer, she said pretty much no other parent is wearing a mask, so it's "back to normal" for them, too 😩😩

Bc my parents went there last week. And she said the day they flew in, VA had added TX to their banned travelers list, and were requiring a 2 week quarantine upon arrival. So you wouldn’t even be able to go to that restaurant. My bro said that in Nova, everyone was wearing masks. 100%. 🤷🏼♀️

That's bananas.

I cannot believe that people are just back to normal, no masks. That's bananas. All indoor locations are 100% masks but outside, I rarely see a mask on anyone...including the soccer and baseball/softball games happening in the neighboring fields. It’s definitely seems somewhat normal and freaks me out with school starting in 3 weeks.

So most of my old friends/family are in the Midwest and based off of social media there is nary a mask in sight. There have been many (so many) vacations, including to FL.
We’ve been invited to a large wedding in October that was planned AFTER the pandemic.
I just... I am lost for words. Truly.

I cannot believe that people are just back to normal, no masks. That's bananas. Yeah it's crazy. We went to a town about an hour South of here and there were SO MANY people outside, very close together, without masks. No thank you please. And I think my SIL said something like the parents at Baseball practice were being lax and then peer pressure set in and now no one wears them at games 🤦

It’s crazy. Here in MA we are in a touristy spot for the week (tho ppl outside of New England not really allowed as I said) and even outdoors on beach access boardwalks and outdoor trails most ppl are masked or pull it up when you pass. Beach stairs etc. on the beaches there’s room to spread. These aren’t amusement park type beaches. Just sand and water. It’s been super windy this week and we even laughed that you’d have to literally make out w someone for droplets to make it to another person outside so we are all overkill- but it’s more judge here if you don’t. I almost said something to the one group we passed at sunset who were at the top of the beach stairs w o but I didn’t have the energy. Indoors is 100%. I’d be complaining to the business if I saw someone without. Most have signs.

Sometimes I walk on the sidewalk from my upper driveway down to my lower driveway and I get side-eyed from across the street in that fifty foot stretch. I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE I PROMISE!

I'm all in and think that mask-wearing is our path out of this until there is a vaccine. I want mask wearing during flu season and when sick to be a standard thing in the future too.
But unless a place is crowded I am comfortable with people not wearing masks outside. Not like sitting across the table from each other and eating a meal with no mask, but walking down the street. I still usually do it because I'm going from place to place and it's easier just to leave it on. And the message of it. But the other day the heat of my mask was giving me a bad headache so I pulled it down when no one was near. But I definitely got some looks and was given a wide berth on the sidewalk. I appreciate that though. People should steer clear of someone without a mask on.

Isn't flu season like, several months long though? I'm totally down with people putting masks on if they have to go out when feeling sick but I'm a no thanks on having to wear a mask during flu season every year. I'm very, very, very pro-masking for Covid but I don't want it to be part of my life forever. And for damn sure most other people will not either. Also, is asymptomatic flu spread a thing? Isn't that a big part of why we are masking for Covid? Masking being a new normal during flu season forever makes me want to scream out loud. Maybe I'm an incredibly selfish person? Or I'm misunderstanding. I'll get all the flu shots though.

I feel like people here have been getting lax with mask wearing, but then again we haven't had any community spread cases in literally months. I always wear a mask when I go into a building but a lot of people aren't, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'm hopeful that people will get back on the bandwagon quickly if/when we have a second wave.

People are definitely not masking outside around here. No masks at the playground or parks and definitely not just walking down the street. It’s mandated for indoor spaces now and even still I always see at least a handful of people not wearing one.

milano I didn’t mean that anyone would be *required* to wear a mask during those times. Just that I/others wouldn’t be side-eyed for doing so 😉. Like for example if I’m getting on a crowded subway during flu season I’m a person who would love to wear a mask in that situation. Or if I’ve been feeling under the weather and I need to go to the grocery I’d put a mask on gladly. Idk about asymptomatic spread but I know that a lot of people don’t stay home just because they aren’t feeling well. Realistically so many people have to go out to work, ride public transit, get groceries, etc unless they’re seriously ill. That’s fine but I’m all for putting a mask on (by choice) in those situations!

I've definitely been judging some friends who flew their whole family down to FL for vaca last week. It's just such an unnecessary risk and seems so selfish.
We're going to NC to the beach in September so I guess call me a hypocrite. But we're driving. Packing food and a little potty for the kids. Staying in a cottage on a private beach and cooking all our own meals. And it's not a hot spot. So I guess people can judge me, too, but I feel like this is the safest vacation we can possibly take right now, and we desperately need to get away for our mental health.

I think that masking when in public spaces when you feel sick forever more makes sense.
Yes, I’m sure some people are symptomatic flu carriers, but I assume not as many? Maybe I’m wrong.
But even people with a cold or a potential flu covering their nose and mouth will lessen a lot of transmission.
Sure, it sucks. But getting everyone around you potentially sick sucks too...
