My school just announced it’s hybrid plan. I will be teaching in person every day. I have no child care for my kids on their remote days. Our regular day care is closed, and family health issues have eliminated my usual backup options. I have absolutely no idea what to do. Our school is letting teachers leave their kids in the cafeteria and having the custodians keep an eye on them between breakfast and lunch and stuff. So maybe that’s an option. (I’m so sorry that you are in this position.)

SO took a job with two days notice so now I’m scrambling to find childcare where our schedules overlap for 2 hours a few early mornings a week. And of course it will be me taking time off or calling in sick if we have no one to watch them. I’m so tired of this always being my responsibility. You know what Mr. Snowmoon?

I mean, good on him for getting a job, but that's definitely shitty of him for putting that on you.

Don’t know if this is an option for you but our district is allowing teachers and staff to transfer their kids in as students to help with childcare.

(I’m so sorry that you are in this position.) That’s outrageous- custodians are going to be so overworked with all of the extra cleaning. I have so much I want to say, but I don’t want to be one of those teachers who gets fired over social media posts. Thanks for thinking of me.

Don’t know if this is an option for you but our district is allowing teachers and staff to transfer their kids in as students to help with childcare. The problem is that we’re on a hybrid model, so kids are every other day in alternating groups but teachers are in every day. We don’t have an option to send them every day. And we’re not allowed to bring them with us on their remote days.

The next COVID relief package needs to include a daily SSRI and some benzos for real.

Wait tj you are kidding right ?? Nope. We’ve had 6 teachers in our elementary quit. So I’m not sure what is going to happen when school actually starts. But yes. That was the option.

Yikes, DGM! That’s stressful. Did I ever update we don't have to move yet? Yeep, yeep! MH blew the interview but surprisingly he is finding the good from it to do better next time. ETA to keep on topic, his school keeps changing what platform he and his fellow teachers are to teach with next week. He is not tech savvy at all so next week is going to be Rough.

I feel like I’m running on empty. I have zero brain power to get anything done. J asked to be switched to an evening shift because it’s easier to get a babysitter in the evenings for 4 hours than at 6am for 2 hours but we’ll be working just to pay the bill. I have had one person respond to my ad looking for a nanny and the grammar was so bad that I need to follow up with 895 questions.

Got an email this afternoon that preschool is delaying their start until January. I JUST gave up spots at a different preschool on Monday when they called to say we were off the waitlist. Wahhhh.

Wahhhh. 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ Wtf?!?! Seriously. I wouldn't be so frustrated if they didn't handle this so poorly. We had storytime and teacher meet on Wednesday...yes, like 3 days ago and not once was it even mentioned that this was a consideration. Class sizes were already very small - 6 kids in E and A's class!

I had a really good snotty cry on Friday night and felt better for about 18 hours. Back to misery and despair.

I let out a full throttled scream the other day after getting off the phone with someone. I was alone in the building and it felt really, really good. It even broke up the migraine that was developing. I should do that more often.

damn. I've been attributing my stress to the bakery move, and while that is definitely part of it, I think that schooling is a bigger part of it. I just realized that M's camp ends in 1 week and we have absolutely nothing lined up after that. IF we can get the microschool going, that should start on the 31st and we only have to figure out a week. But if we don't, then we have 2.5 weeks until in person school starts with 5 hour days. We have somewhere between 3 and 5 kids lined up for the microschool. We want 5, but would start with 4 (I'd start with 3 and a teacher). And we have a teacher who is holding out for a public school offer. We have another teacher lined up to interview on Wednesday, but who knows. And then once (if) we get it all lined up, then we have to actually line up the actualities of it. Fortunately two of the parents in the pod are teachers, so I think that they have a better handle on the curriculum part of it. But we have to figure out how to pay the teacher, how to buy supplies. What supplies. Every other thing that it takes to build a school in a week? Oh and file all of the paperwork for homeschooling. Can't I have just one monumental, overwhelming thing on my plate at a time?

Oy. BIL has decided to cancel the big wedding ceremony in Oct, and opt for a "family dinner" to celebrate with just immediate family. Which sounds great and all, but the "immediate family" (parents, siblings, nieces/nephews) is like 15-20 people! And some are coming from out of state, which obv ads extra exposure risk, and he wants to book a private room at a restaurant.
Am I crazy for not feeling great about 18 people being in close quarters, indoors, for hours? Like, that's how this sh!t spreads! Why can't they just cater something at their oversized house so we can all be outside??
And S, who very recently has clearly expressed unease with eating indoors and even going to the hair salon, is acting like my discomfort is unreasonable. I know it's supposed to be their big day and all, but just because we're all family doesn't mean we should throw caution to the wind.
