I've definitely been judging some friends who flew their whole family down to FL for vaca last week. It's just such an unnecessary risk and seems so selfish. We're going to NC to the beach in September so I guess call me a hypocrite. But we're driving. Packing food and a little potty for the kids. Staying in a cottage on a private beach and cooking all our own meals. And it's not a hot spot. So I guess people can judge me, too, but I feel like this is the safest vacation we can possibly take right now, and we desperately need to get away for our mental health. Sounds like you’re taking all the precautions you can, though. I did the same as you - but met up with some extended family! Outdoors. We all had individual cabins and only shared outdoor space. We had a zillion email and phone call conversations about everyone’s level of comfort. We all disclosed our current distancing practices. We all acknowledged that this was probably the only time we’d see each other in 2020. My issue is with people who seem to not be mindful about any of this. Because - boy, I get it. It’s exhausting to be super mindful all the time. It’s like when my parents were super immunocompromised - had to double think all my actions to make sure they stayed safe.

My ILs are coming next weekend. As part of a multi-state road trip. They have not stopped traveling at all this whole time. And they are in their 70’s. And they own their own shop which has been open all of this time. Thankfully they don’t hug or kiss or play with the kids?

Ok yes I'm down with masking being acceptable anytime. After my response last night I was thinking about you charlotte and other immunocompromised people who would want that extra layer of protection, and you should absolutely have it without being subject to judgement.

milano I didn’t mean that anyone would be *required* to wear a mask during those times. Just that I/others wouldn’t be side-eyed for doing so 😉. Like for example if I’m getting on a crowded subway during flu season I’m a person who would love to wear a mask in that situation. Or if I’ve been feeling under the weather and I need to go to the grocery I’d put a mask on gladly. Idk about asymptomatic spread but I know that a lot of people don’t stay home just because they aren’t feeling well. Realistically so many people have to go out to work, ride public transit, get groceries, etc unless they’re seriously ill. That’s fine but I’m all for putting a mask on (by choice) in those situations! Yea, I think if wearing a mask became more normalized and wasn't viewed as weird, choosing to wear one when you have a cold/cough/sniffles/whatever is just a considerate thing to do. I grew up wearing one to school if I was not sick enough to stay home and it makes so much more sense than just having kids spreading their germs everywhere.

I just got scammed and I feel like a total idiot for falling for it. Got a call from my bank's fraud prevention dept about some recent purchases and I thought it was related to the fact that I recently replaced my debit card. It had the automated voice like the regular bank line, and then transferred me to a fraud prevention agent and she had me verify my debit card number and I gave it to her and she asked me about some of my recent purchase history. I got off the phone and realized I didn't google the number to make sure it was real and ta-da, it wasn't actually my bank. Thank goodness I figured it out a few seconds after I hung up and was able to cancel my card with my actual bank before they charged anything. So, learn from my mistake, don't give anyone your credit card over the phone, even if they sound just like your bank. Scammers are definitely getting more sophisticated. Now I'm off to the bank to get a new card printed and I'm changing all my passwords since somehow they got my purchase history. Ugh.

Dramaphile, gosh I'm glad you caught on and they weren't able to charge anything! Scammers are such dirty birds.

Scammers are such dirty birds. pbandj714 this made me LOL because it sounds like something a very old woman would say 🤣. Dramaphile I’m glad you caught it before they could do any damage! Last year my mom kept getting scam calls from someone impersonating a local police officer.. ugh.

pbandj714 I think thats a perfectly safe plan. We are doing the same thing in a few weeks. Agree! We are doing almost the exact same thing in October. We can get time away and relax and have fun and stay away from people!

pbandj714, we're doing the same next month, AirBNB on a private beach, going in the off season and avoiding busy areas, driving down. I think it's best case scenario as far as going away safely.

I'm all for wearing a mask when you're not feeling great. I mean, we all spent money buying them, so why not use them 😂

At the library curb side p/u line today, there was a toddler with a shirt that said “mandate vegetables”
The woman I’m assuming was his mom was *shockingly* not wearing a mask.

It's normal to sob while holding your crying 3 year old, right? Because that has been happening a lot lately.
I'm so tired.

It's normal to sob while holding your crying 3 year old, right? Because that has been happening a lot lately. I'm so tired. My parents split up when I was 2 and all throughout my childhood my mom listened to a lot of Patsy Cline. She said that it was the music that got her through the split with my dad. The music used to make her cry but now (in my older childhood) it made her feel stronger. And my mom didn't split up with my dad during a pandemic with the most horrific lack of support of parents that we could have imagined. So yeah, my vote is for normal.

Our babysitter just texted us that she had a temp last night. And that she is going to get tested. We are now stuck at home for 14 days (we will all go for testing if she is positive). But we will all be staying home for 14 days even if its negative. My 40th falls on day 14 (not that I would be going out anyway). (Totally not blaming her, and I'm glad she told us right away.)

I typed a whole thing ‘bout how I’m ready to kill my “partner” but it was in the wrong thread.

Test came back negative.
They think it might be food poisoning. Especially since shes doing better today.
We talked with Fs daycare and let them know. We are going to touch base next week to see what we should do. Regardless, I think we will keep her home for a week.

I'm so over this whole wedding thing. I was FINALLY feeling OK about the rehearsal dinner and the actual wedding after hearing more details, but now we have to figure out who we're staying with (either my parents or SIL).
The plan was to stay with my parents for a night or two, then my SIL for the rest of the time. But, I just found out my niece and nephew are going back to school in person (private school, supposedly smaller classes, but I don't know what "smaller" means). And they are also doing baseball and cheer.
Soooo... That feels like a lot of exposure, esp if the kids won't even really get to see each other much with going to school and going to practices; so maybe staying with my parents the whole time makes more sense...
BUT, if we stay with my parents and just choose to hang out with the cousins a couple times, is that also too much exposure for my parents??

rugger, I’m sorry. Socialization feels like that unprotected sex math equation they scared us with in high school now. Can you ask your parents how they feel about it?

It is definitely the "partner chart" of middle school. Honestly, I think I would rather take on the risk, rather than risk my parents' health. My mom can.not. get the 'Rona, so I'd rather just see them a few days and then deal with the other situation.

FIL had bladder surgery almost 2 weeks ago with two follow up appointments at the hospital and today has fever, aches and chills. His urine sample came back clear from infection so they tested him for COVID. Kinda spiraling and really wish he didn't think a positive test is "impossible". So now we wait for the results and have to convince him that we have to treat it as a positive result until we know for sure because you know, he's in the "everything is so overblown and would never happen to me" camp.
