Ouch cagoldi! When I stabbed my hand the nurses just said to keep it clean with soap and water, they don't even recommend hydrogen peroxide anymore cause they're finding that it is killing new cells that are trying to form. Clean it every 12 hours with soap and water, apply polysporin and bandaid and you should be good.

cagoldi , so many parents are still hovering right now! I took Cadence into the cafeteria this morning (I'm trying to convince her to do the drop off line, but she said we can only sometimes). I'm trying to get in and out and there are parents sticking around for like morning announcements and shit. no thanks! So many! They even walk with the whole class until everyone is inside. Don’t these people have jobs to get to? I WAH and I’m still like, nope, no time for that. There were so many on the first day that they couldn't all get into the cafeteria and we had to take her straight to the classroom and wait for her teacher. Now parents aren't allowed all the way to the classroom unless they have a badge from the office.

He's a germophobe and he probably buys hydrogen peroxide and isopropyl alcohol by the gallon. He's very hard to buy for and one year for Christmas I got him a tub full of his favorite daily items and included those. It's saddens the inner sadist and masochist in me. I love watching it bubble.

The ongoing lingering at school is odd to me. I like to walk them in the first day when I'm able to with my work schedule . But it's a short send-off and beyond that they go on the bus. It's not even a possibility at the girls' school with security. I get it that it can be hard, but have none of these parents ever done drop-offs before? Daycare? Preschool? It's kind of Parenting 101 that dragging out drop-offs just makes them more difficult.

Are you all saying parents are going into the schools, to drop off their kids? Is that allowed? It was only allowed at Evie's school the first day. After that, to go into the school, you have to stop at the office and get a visitors pass. I think the doors lock from the outside so not just anyone can get in without a school official at the door.

Over here it is normal to bring your kid to their class (no schoolbusses). In our school it’s a bit different, we start the day with all the chairs in a circle, the parent stands behind their kid & we all sing for about 5 minutes until the teacher says it time for the parents say goodbye/hug/kiss and then leave. It seemed a little weird to me at first and now I love it. It is such a mindful moment. ETA and I know most of you will now have this look on your face.

mwhip, that is the rule at our school too, but they are allowed into the cafeteria area in the mornings for drop off, but that's as far as they are allowed to go without a badge.

We can't go to the cafeteria even. You can walk them to the door and that's it. There are schools in my district that had this policy on the first day as well. I know a couple moms whose kids went to a different elementary school that were quite upset they couldn't walk their kid to their classroom on the first day.

nam2013 the look on my face is similar. I prefer to sing in my car, loudly, alone, not in front of hundreds of other kids and parents. LOL This is going to seem like a naive question, but are most of the families in your school working parents? I don't mean that in a bad way, I just know most people around here don't have the flexibility to spend 5 minutes singing with their kid at school each morning.

We aren’t allowed to bring our kids into the school. Even on the first day drop off was only on the playground. That is 100% different than I’m used to with our preschool which requires you to take the kid to hallway outside of their classroom and wait until the door opens and then take them inside. I much prefer the drop at the playground or taking the bus situation. It’s not that bad this time of year but in the winter it sucks, esp if you have a younger sib that you have to bring with.

I think it depends on your neighborhood. If I knew all my neighbors and could see her, I'd be okay with her walking 5 houses. If there was a lot of traffic and lots of people out milling around, I'd meet her. But I'm paranoid and don't trust people. Our neighborhood is pretty quiet. Right now there’s a house being built directly across the street from the bus stop, so there’s more people around that normal. I can’t see from inside of my house but if I walked outside and stood at the end of the driveway I could. As long as I knew they were getting off the bus I would. Also if I was comfortable with it. E has to cross 2 streets or a diagonal cross. Lots of cars picking up kids and another kid that runs across the street. I need to know he isn't going to follow bad behaviour

Yes, the singing thing would have me a little... put off. Plus, what happens to the kids who don't have a parent drop them off? For instance 2 days per week, I will have a babysitter drop my kid off. I don't think she would want to stand in a circle and sing with him! I am also hysterical at the thought of my husband doing this. Plus usually when I sing (granted it's usually loudly and obnoxiously for the sole purpose of annoying my kids... anyone else do this? Just me?) anyway, usually when I sing, my kids scream at me to stop, so not sure how well that would go over in that setting!

Also add me to the can't go into the school club. We haven't had our first day yet, but I believe we can walk them in day 1, but after that it's curb drop off only. We have to have a pass (and presumably a reason) to get in the school as well. I will be dropping and running most days as I have to get to work.

The singing is quiet soft, all kids sing, parents are encouraged. My dad often takes ds to school and will probably also stand/sit there defiantly not singing 😉. I’ve seen sitters pick kids up, but almost never brought in. Btw the singing is not the norm in Holland (the circle start is), this is specific for the Waldorf schools, which even over here is considered a little crunchy. Oh and this is up until 1 grade. DS’ class room, we sit behind those chairs. The curtains are closed for the sun, normally they’re open.

So at dance class yesterday one of the Moms was on her phone talking about how her son got diagnosed with whooping cough, that he had apparently gone to school the entire 1st week with. Luckily, we are not at the same school. However, she was saying how the entire family now has to go on the antibiotics for it and he has to stay home the rest of this week. Um, should I be concerned? Her daughter is in Cadence's dance class. I'm not really interested in my kid getting whooping cough.

Our parents are allowed to go to the cafeteria and to the music department because it's a music magnet school and most kids have to carry their instruments every day. After tomorrow, they can't linger in the cafeteria though.

If C gets sick, obviously take her in, but this doesn't sound like a be concerned situation to me. I'm breazy though.

trtlcrzy, I'd let C walk home 5 houses (especially if the other kids were inside), but I'd be watching from the driveway. Here the kindergartners have to show the bus driver who is there to get them at the bus stop before getting off. Our stop is a bit further though so I will wait there.

I know not everyone builds up antibodies but I wouldn't be concerned since all of them are on antibiotics.

I already told M she can't do strings because a parent has to be there for their private lesson every week as well as have their own lesson to instruct the child when practicing at home. They're all during work hours so I can't do that. It's serious business. She knows I used to play the piano and is interested in that but she doesn't have to decide for another year or two.

She said she was concerned about any kids at his school that weren't vaccinated. Cadence has been vaccinated for it, so I wasn't super worried, just wondering if I should be.
She just finished her round of amox for strep and now has this cold/possible allergies going on, so I'm a bit on edge.
