We seem to have gotten past the crying at drop off phase for now! We've had three days of no crying this week!

Tonight two goldfish crackers fell out of her bowl and she just lost it. Mind you she had a bowl full and I never stopped her from picking up the crackers she dropped. 🤷🏽♀️

One of the teachers at J's daycare is going on maternity leave starting next week. Would you get her a gift? On your own or try and organize something with the other parents? It would be best to get her something before she starts maternity leave right?

If you're up for organizing something, I'd go that route.

DS is home recovering from a stomach bug. I stayed with him yesterday while he was sad and sick. DH gets him today all happy and bouncy. Oh well. I enjoyed the couch time with him.
I'm excited for him to get back to school tomorrow because they're celebrating Shark Week and he's freaking obsessed with sharks right now.

It would be best to get her something before she starts maternity leave right? If it's in the budget, a gift from J/your family is a nice gesture. If it were me, I would get her something on your own. Unless I was very friendly with the other parents I'm not going to try to organize a group gift.

Nymeria, gingy, some of the parents just started a group text thread for the first time, I think as part of a parent involvement committee efforts. I was thinking about asking if people would be interested in getting a gift together but I also don't want people to feel pressured into contributing. I also feel a little bit weird because one of the other teachers is on the text thread, but not the one that is pregnant, and I don't want to start another thread just to leave her out. I think I'm just going to get a gift card or something and maybe have J "sign" a card from all of us...

Well that's adorable. He has some days of the week Hanes with sea creatures. He always wants to wear the shark or whale ones. So he's got Saturday undies on today because they have the whales.

I ordered some underwear for J. I still don't really have a plan for potty training, which "method" to use, when, whatever. I was kind of hoping he would just potty train himself.......
Also, the past few days he's told me several times that I have a baby and points to my boob. At least he's not pointing to my belly because that would be rude. I imagine it's because of his teacher who is about to have a baby soon. I'm just hoping he doesn't say it in front of other people, or gosh, TO other people.

piratecat, there are so many different methods. It definitely feels overwhelming. I decided it needed to be done as quickly as possible so we didn't drag it out with daycare. I googled "3 day PT" and went from there. There are a few philosophies even within that parameter. So I just combined what I thought would work for us/DS. I like a lot of what Oh Crap has to offer. The book has sooo much info. And she has a YouTube channel with extra tips.

I feel like he could maybe probably do it but I'm not sure I'm ready to commit and I keep going back and forth on wanting to get it over with and just waiting for him to take more initiative. We pretty much have zero weekends free for the next couple of months anyway and I don't want to be stuck at home for 3 days when it's nice out either. I've read up on the 3day method (the one where you put the kid in underwear from the start) and I think my sister did the Oh Crap method (no underwear, no diaper, right?). I'm not sure which sounds better to me yet.

Although I will say that having nice weather was perfect for two full days of being naked. He could just pee outside while we were playing. Is the next room at daycare more PT-friendly? I know a lot of people wait until their kid gets to a specific daycare room where they encourage PT and there's a bit of a herd mentality.

Yea, he'll move up to the "preschool" room in October or November and they are set up to help kids potty train. We hardly ever stay home on the weekends even if we are in town but I suppose it is possible.

Anybody here have experience with their kiddos using balance bikes? I'm thinking of getting one for D2. She turns 2 in a couple of weeks. Yay or nay?

We haven't had a lot of opportunities to use it and he's still getting the hang of it but I think you should do it! How tall is she? My 2YO is small and a lot of the ones I looked at were too tall for him.

jt2378, if you decide to get one, make sure she doesn't also get a tricycle from someone else for her birthday. This happened to my nephew and he never rode the balance bike in favor of the tricycle.

DS always tries to steal the neighbor boy's balance bike, but it's too tall for him. I'm thinking of telling one of the grandparents to find one for his birthday. I think he'd love it.

Thanks piratecat, she seems on the smaller size to me as well. I don't know specifically her height right now but she is only about 28 lbs. We already have a tricycle from D1 that she uses but she is such a daredevil and climber that I thought the balance bike would let her keep us with sis a little more. Which one did you get for J?

This is what I got. It was one of the more reasonably priced one that had a short enough seat for him, but he was only 24 lbs and 33" at his 2 year check up so your daughter may be taller than him and may be able to ride other bikes. It has two wheels in the back so it's a little more stable for younger kids and the extra wheel can be removed later. I do like it.

I'm swamped and am just poking in while my lunch heats up. Someone tag me tonight and I'll come and give my experience and reqs. DD has had two balance bikes.

We got one for my oldest which got passed down to the little guy. They both loved it and I was amazed at how quickly they picked up a regular bike (no training wheels, just sat on it and rode it immediately).

DD got a chillafish balance bike at 1. We used it in the house and used it to get her familar with bikes and helmets. Much resistance was had. She outgrew the tiny one and we got her the BMX version for Easter. Again much resistance was had. Until a few weeks ago when she randomly started wanting to ride it. I recently shwoed her a YouTube video of how to ride one and she was really into it after that.
So don't give up if they aren't into it at first. Eventually they'll get it.

Once she saw she could get to a point where she could push off and glide she was more into trying.
