I really do not like candidates offering a chance to win having a drink with them. I’ve seen Warren offer beer and Kristen is doing whiskey. It is really rubbing me the wrong way. I also think it's weird, but I can't quite articulate why. At first I thought it was the specificity of it (why not just say 'a drink' instead of a certain type of alcohol?) but I think it's the whole contest premise in general that bothers me.

This is where I land too. I have a problem with the alcoholic drink because it alienates an entire population of people who don’t drink. Plus, they are running for president and supposed to be assessable to the entire population, not one lucky winner.

I actually thought the contest was a clever play on when people talk about how they feel like they could sit down and have a beer with the candidates. And Warren’s emails always said “have a beer (or tea, coffee, or whatever!)” so I never felt like they were excluding non drinkers. I was kind of hoping to win, lol

How do we feel about joes apology three weeks later? It does nothing for me because too late buddy He needs to go. At this point, it's only coming because someone in his campaign team forced the issue. He's not actually sorry.

The more I learn about her, the more she seems like an absolute gem of a person. I would be very down for having a cup of coffee with her. Especially if she brought Bailey with her. Omg, that floof is adorable.

I also like that she calls donors and that she continues to stay for selfies/handshakes with anyone who wants one after every event, even the bigger ones. She genuinely looks like she's having fun with the selfie lines.

I saw a headline about Pete's plan for xyz and had completely forgotten he was running. Battling systemic racism?
I got an email from warren re: Steyer jumping in and how we can't keep adding candidates and I"m like you're still at the same amount because Eric dropped. so no net gain/loss

Kamala is on Maddow tonight....
New poll shows only 12% of Dem voters have mind made up on who they would chose in primary.
If you're not sure yet but had to go to your 2nd choice-Kamala is the top answer. Also the one the most people want to learn more about.
Kamala was deemed most impressive by 15 points over...Warren.
Maddow thinks she is the top candidate for drawing people in.

Kamala was deemed most impressive at debates. 2nd place was Warren but she was points behind Kamala.
Maddow thinks she is the top candidate for drawing people in/attracting more voters.

In her best matter-of-fact voice, she finds the birtherism attacks "uninteresting." Such a simple answer. But she is so cool under pressure.

Sometimes I feel like we need someone less to the left, but really I think that someone more left leaning like Kamala Harris could bring out a lot of voters that Hillary didn't. Trump supporters aren't going to change, but Harris could energize the left to turn out.

I agree sctiger, but I don't even think it's about more to the left. We just need someone who is truly compassionate and cares about all people. And not in a cliche, forced way. Somebody who really has climbed the uphill battle, dealt with racism and/or sexism, and who knows what changes needs to look like because of all the bullshit they've dealt with (AHEM not all you white men). I haven't looked much into Buttigieg's plan to deal with systemic racism , but my initial reaction is "well you're mostly/only doing it because you poll so so so poorly with black people." That's what I mean by forced. I do think Pete is incredibly smart and I don't think he's racist, but his record on dealing with these issues isn't great. Yes, he can be given more chances to prove himself and the grace to grow, but he just doesn't immediately get "it" because he's a white dude. He is just one and not the only example. I'm not picking on him exclusively. And I know he faces his own challenges because of his sexual orientation. When we're looking at who to energize, it's all the marginalized populations, not the white people who don't know how they're going to vote because a gay man/woman/black woman might be the Dem candidate. Harris, and possibly Warren, absolutely will be able to energize these groups. And again, I don't necessarily think it's going to be about how far to the center or left she is. It's because she looks like them, has struggled like they have in many ways, and will actively seek to make their lives better.

I also think we need to stop worrying about how left a candidate is. It plays into the GOPs hands. We e made being left leaning an insult, a horror even. But when you talk to people who don't follow politics like us, they like the policies of the left. Most avg Americans do not clearly understand how far right we've gone in such a short period.
I think the perfect example is someone on here described a coworker who said she'd never vote for a "socilaist", previously voted for Trump, but when she watched the debate she prefered Warren, who was the most progressive, left candidate on the stage. People don't understand politics, so they just follow someone who will inspire.
Both Kamala and Warren are doing that and I think that is all that matters.
Also the US political spectrum is such a tiny blip I really wish an actual leftist would run so people would understand how far the spectrum goes. I am an actual socialist. Democrats are barely center left at this point.

She actually has no idea what is "left" "right" "socialist", etc. All she knows is what she hears and what she picks up from other people. But given sort of a blank slate without the labels, she actually finds she aligns closest with someone who is near(est) to what she thinks is "socialism". We need to remember back when Obama came through and really MOVED people. He inspired, and touched (not in a creepy Biden way), and truly reached out to the people. I see this in both Liz and Kamala. They give me hope and spark energy. This is what will truly win out in the end, I hope. All of those people who got behind Obama and fought for him to win can do it again, they just need to not have some many pointless distractions along the way...I'm looking at you Chads.

So apparently Mark Sanford is thinking about a primary run? He was governor of SC and then served as a rep for SC district one. He lost the primary in 2018 to a crazy Trump lady, who then lost to Joe Cunningham.

He lost the primary in 2018 to a crazy Trump lady, who then lost to Joe Cunningham. He was on Chris Hayes' show last night, and it did not go well. It was pretty uncomfortable to watch, though they both kept a good sense of humor. The looks Hayes was shooting him was something. Like he couldn't help himself and it was exactly what we were all thinking. Sanford said the biggest crisis facing America was debt and Hayes was like our racist president or kids in cages at the border isn't it???!!! And he tied to try it back to the debt issue, but yeah no. Also, he was so squirmy and tried so hard to avoid answering the question about if the president's Tweets were racist. Hayes wouldn't let him off the hook, so he eventually owned up to that. There's no transcript or video I can find yet, but if I can I will come back and add it.
