DD1 has swim lessons at the local pool. It’s only 66° and while the kids don’t seem to care the lifeguards teaching look frozen. DD1s favorite part is the free swim at the end where she can play in the splash pad and go down the slides. She is not impressed with all the “get your head wet” nonsense they want her to do 😂 DD2 continues to try more and more words. She is finally saying “sissy” which took forever seeing as DD1 is her bff and she would follow her to the end of the earth. I think DD2 now has almost 20 words she uses without prompting, a huge jump from the 5 she had at her 18 month appt. Love it! Lil fella adores his big bro too. First thing usually after nursing in the am if DS hasn't already busted into our room, lil fella would immediately say. Wanna get down! wanna get down! Wanna go see Koko ( nick name we use for big bro ) and dashes off to his room Also that's just incredible that in just a couple of months with speech she's progressing so well!

Ladies, Moving and house sales and with E's GREAT results! I feel like I've been away for so long. August Blooms, doodlemommy congratulations! good luck packing. With kids now I would be crying... So . Much. Stuff! danvers bummer about the job/move situation but sounds like you've carefully made your decision and it's best for your family now. Hopefully the stars will align for you when it's the right time. Good luck on more house reno. In a way it's actually great that you have the length of time to get things done and don't have to drag it out over weekends. I still have a wall and a half of trim left to caulk and paint in the office and to paint the door. Now that lil fella I think is finally done with nursing - although he asked this morning and I caved, he only nursed like 4 times last week so I am like are you actually finally done lil dude? curmudgeon Happy belated birthday! Also where are you going on vacay sans kids? I am like jeles on the other hand I just can't bring myself to go away from the kids.

cythe, I am so so SO SO glad that E's MRI came back all clear! although I know in a strange way this puts you in a quandary but I am hoping HOPING so so bad that extensive therapy will help her tremendously. She's also so so adorable! Also at any given time, if at any given time your gut tells you that she may not be responding as well as you think don't hesitate to be "that" mom. It's hard to see them have a schedule at such a young age but I've seen my nephew's therapy sessions and the therapists are so good and so patient with him and he's usually giggling and laughing and having so much fun during the sessions. I probably shouldn't say this but my nephew's MRI also came back negative although he had very very noticeable impairments all around. It took my sister 9 years to finally find the problem. Now they are looking for cures in every possible way however minuscule. Also every every little progress is cause for celebration! so keep us updated. A year ago my nephew finally was able to ride on a horse all by himself without 2 people holding onto him. I was in tears when my sister told me.

DS birthday party was yesterday and it's finally done! I am soooo tired. Working everyday and getting everything done for the party has me beat. Anyways watching all the kids run around and destroy my house! was so so worth it. It was supposed to be for a couple of hours but his 2 best friends stayed for almost 2 extra hours! and one of them asked why couldn't he stay longer. I wanted them to stay longer cos they were just so happy and it made me so happy to see DS so excited having his friends over but it was waaayyy past lil fella's nap time and one of the mom's knew it and was trying to get her husband and kid to leave haha! I told her it was ok cos lil fella actually slept till 8 that morning! usually up at 6 so he was holding out ok. Anyways I ended up making a massive - oops! cake. I also ended up making 2 large strombolis which I had never made before and thank goodness it was a success and it was all gone... I didn't have any so I didn't know how it tasted. I also messed up the flavours. Ham, Swiss cheese and spinach became Ham & provolone. Genoa salami, provolone, sun-dried tomato became salami, swiss cheese, sun dried tomato and spinach. Even some of the kids actually ate it and liked it! Anyways totally recommend making stromboli's for parties, so easy and feeds loads of people and it's a hot dish you can keep warm. I am so glad I thought of it. I also did have tons of fun making the marzipan for DS' cake. He requested all the animals from lil fella's cake last year with a pond and everything and I got carried away and made some turtles and bunnies. hahaha! It was actually tiring but therapeutic to mould them after a long day of work and getting the kidlets to bed. Here's the massive 9" cake! Let me know if anyone wants the recipe. It's a chocolate cake and strawberry frosting and if you follow the recipe, it won't be this massive and the cake is so so easy. No need to drag out the cake mixer or wait for butters to be soft or eggs at room temp. Literally 1 bowl.

duskymonkey we are going to an all inclusive in Cozumel. Going to try out snorkeling and paddle boarding! I’m ready for a break from these kids. The little one is such a handful. My mom watched him this weekend for a few hours and told me “he is so mean!” We know! We’re trying. 😭

cythe, stop it! She's sooo adorable. She looks like you, yes? That cake duskymonkey, you are so talented. Taitai, I cannot imagine packing for a trip like you're taking. I'm getting overwhelmed just thinking about it. Speaking of packing, we are leaving Saturday for a road trip for Florida. The pre-trip anxiety is setting in with all the trip prep and packing we have to do this week. Also, DS1 went with my ILs to visit family, he left Thursday evening and we drove down and met them all Saturday. We Facetimed Friday night and DS2 was ECSTATIC to see DS1. He got so excited, it was too cute. When we all got home Saturday evening it was apparent they both missed each other. All the heart eye emojis.

duskymonkey Wow - that cake is amaaazing! You could seriously open up a professional bake shop! Or at least go on the Great British Bake Off! I’m so jealous of your skills. So happy to hear the party was a success and your DS1 had a blast with his buddies. We put so much work into birthday parties, and it so nice when everyone has a great time! CoachTsWife A trip to FL sounds like fun! Although long rides in the car with the kids make anxious just thinking about it too!! Good luck packing!

Reading about all the sibling cuteness reminds me that we’ve been seeing the boys actually start to play with each other now! Like, I swear just in the last week, I’ve seen these moments where I’m like...omg...they are actually playing with each other...and not just trying to steal the other’s toys. It’s not long-lived, but I’m thinking there’s hope!
DS1 is 4 and becoming more mature (previously he would just ignore DS2, unless he wanted to taunt him with a toy or steal a toy from him), so I think DS1 wanting to actually play is a big factor in the progress. Please let it continue! The first thing DS2 says each morning now is - “Go see [DS1’s name]!!” 💕❤️

Taitai, it is about 14 hours in the car. Not looking forward to the drive - mostly with DS2, DS1 will be fine as long as he has a movie to watch. We are breaking the drive into 2 days and scheduling legit stops to break up each day to make it more like a true road trip. For example, we're stopping at a zoo for a couple hours halfway through day 1 - we're really hoping that makes a difference. Plus, DH still has a lot of stiffness in his back and starts having pain when he sits for too long, so he really needs the breaks as much as the boys do.

Inspection went well yesterday, phew! Lots of little things to do but they are mostly cheap diy projects to be expected for a 28 year old house. Picked out all the flooring etc for the renos we want to do. Just waiting to hear back from the sellers on if they will do the couple little things we asked following inspection (they have a cat and never cleaned or serviced their furnace since it was installed 8 years ago so we asked they either do it or give us the money off to do it). Waiting on the final ok from the bank (it was conditionally approved pending our sale so just waiting on the final ok) and then we can remove conditions and it’s all official! Time is creeping by as I check my email over and over haha

duskymonkey I am always amazed at your cake skills. That cake is just adorable. Sounds like the party was a lot of work but totally worth it. Taitai My kids are playing together too... it’s nice when it’s quiet and their not fighting for those whole 10 minutes. You will have to let me know what keeps your LO occupied during your flights. We are doing a 4 hour flight in a few weeks and I’m dreading it. I want to get DD2 a seat and strap her in a car seat for the flight but DH doesn’t want to spend the money. I don’t want to wrestle a 22lb toddler for 4 hours because she wants to run around. doodlemommy I spend an hour at a flooring and tile place today. I was so much fun shopping for the new house. The staff are my husbands new favorite people because they showed me some cheap and nice options, I have expensive taste and they were able to steer me to nice but reasonably priced stuff.

Both deals are officially closed, we move in a month!!! The only sad thing is that the flooring we picked they can’t get the entire amount we need until August My BIL/realtor/reno guy (he does renovations and flips houses for a living and got his real estate license so they could cut that commission out, he is pretty darn awesome and is not taking a commission on our sale or purchase and we get to use his “guys” for everything to get way better deals so we can do more for less) is going to see if we can get enough to do the upper floor/bedrooms so at least we don’t have to move all furniture again but we’ll see. It sucks but we love that floor and it looks good in all rooms of the house. We don’t really want to start over picking something new

CoachTsWife I think your plan to break up the drive with legit stops and make it a road trip will work out great! It’s so important for kids to burn off their energy. Sounds like it’s a necessity to for your husband, and it will keep his back in good shape for the rest of your trip! August Blooms I’ll definitely let you know what works. DS2 loves books, and sometimes he will sit with me at home for like an hour reading them...no joke...so I packed his fav Richard Scarry word book, and I’m reaaaally hoping that one eats up a lot of time. Have other little things in DS2’s magical new backpack, so I’ll let you know the good and bad. doodlemommy Congrats on getting the deal done! I wish I had a BIL like yours! Good luck with the renovations and getting all the moving logistics sorted!

Does anyone have a magic cure for diaper rash? DS2 gets it so often. We are constantly slathering on creams and coconut oil and have advised daycare to do the same and check him every 30 min for poop. It seems like once we get it under control it comes back with a vengeance. It’s just super red/raw. Only once has he had a blister but I don’t want it to get that bad again.

curmudgeon TRIPLE PASTE....I'll triple yell it out loud. It's expensive but it works. It may be tough with him in daycare but we never unless out and about use wipes. We just use a damp paper towel ( Viva is best ) to clean up. The times both boys have gotten red bums is usually when I have to use wipes when we're out or traveling. I also observe that laying on a dollop of paste and not actually rubbing it in works best. It's been several months now that we haven't used any during the day. I still smack some on before he's down for the night just cos. I am hoping to eek out the tub we have - hoping it'll be the last one. ETA. Something I observed too is that when lil fella has been eating loads of oranges, his bum tends to get red

doodlemommy , that's brilliant that the deals closed well without problems and could you send your BIL to me please. Also could you and August Blooms send over some of your amazingly great housing sells vibes over to me. I am going to need it in a couple of months. I'll share later as it's all just preliminary discussion started this week and until we get some estimates, we may decide otherwise. Taitai , CoachTsWife you both are soooo brave! I cannot imagine traveling long distance esp. with lil fella now. His attention span is so short and he just wants to move ALL.THE.TIME! Good luck with your trips and it's a great idea to break it up. Taitai please tell me you're going Biz class and not cattle class! I cannot cannot fathom traveling all that distance with lil fella in cattle class although you could get the entire middle row seat - maybe not so bad then. Also your DS2 sounds like my DS, he can sit still for a long while reading books. Lil fella is the total opposite. Oy! Speaking of moving - randomly on Sunday he started trying to jump all on his own. It was the funniest thing we'd seen ( DS started jumping much later ) both his legs we so uncoordinated and he's been "jumping" since then and today he may have gotten the hang of it! Very exciting. Also this morning, we woke up to him attempting to sing Wheels on the bus.

Omg yes duskymonkey we have told daycare no acidic fruits. Pineapples oranges whatever. I’ll get triple paste today. We’ve been trying all the other creams. I wonder if I can make my own “wipes” for daycare to use so they aren’t as harsh.

curmudgeon I second the recommendation for Triple Paste. I tried it over a year ago per duskymonkey's recommendation and it helped more than the others. Also, if you have some time to do diaper free time in the backyard or something I've heard that helps.

curmudgeon DD1 got really bad diaper rash around 16 or so months and the doctor had us use a combination of triple paste, an antibiotic ointment, and nystatin, and maybe something else. I am obviously not a doctor at all but if it keeps bothering him maybe call the pedi and see if they have a recommendation for something strong to take care of it? Poor little guy

It’s been a crazy busy week. H has an umbilical hernia so here I sit in outpatient with him at 6:30 in the morning so he can get it taken care of it. He knew he had a hernia but it didn’t hurt..... until it did 😑 so it’s been a busy week of doctors appts and scheduling and rescheduling daycare stuff to try and get this done.
H does not handle pain well (as in not.at.all) so I am not looking forward to recovery.

H kept DS2 home yesterday to try and get his diaper rash under control. He picked up some triple paste! But DS stuck his hand in it and started eating it when he wasn’t looking so that resulted in a call with poison control. I think it’s looking better. I just wish it would stop coming back!

I have no idea how long it takes to recover from a hernia - is it long? curmudgeon the "like" was for picking up Triple Paste. I was hasty and liked the post and then I read about the call to poison control. Sorry that happened -- but I hope your guy's bum is getting better!

Guys. Something is going on with DS2. He is having a sleep regression to beat all sleep regressions ever in the history of sleep regressions.
Maybe that's an exaggeration, but we feel like we have a newborn. He started waking up and crying a LOT last week so we took him to urgent care to check his ears. He had a mild ear infection so we got antibiotics. He's been on them at least a week now and it feels safe to say that wasn't the main thing causing the night-time issues. We don't know what to do. It doesn't help if we go in his room; he calms down while we're in there but loses it the second we leave. If we let him cry it out he will cry off an on for an hour, easily. Multiple times a night.
I feel like a horrible person but I am so incredibly tired of hearing him cry/scream. Google tells me it could be common at this age (21 months), could be a regression or maybe we're upon a language explosion so his brain is busy and he's not sleeping well combined with separation anxiety. IDK, man. I need a drink. And some sleep.
