N will likely take the bus. I think it picks up just a couple houses down, which I can see from the front window. We've talked about it and named a few kids she knows that will ride the same bus. I'm nervous for her though. With her anxiety lately, it makes my heart hurt thinking about her getting on that bus! I try not to let that show and hopefully she'll outgrow this by September.

Poor H! I would call the pedi, tgrimes to see what they think. I already did. Just waiting for a callback. He’s napping now...in between coughing fits. I hope they can help him.

I can't decide on sending E on the bus or not. Small town, so bus stops are right in front of your house. But the grandparents could easily drop her off and pick her up every day, saving us money. But I do know the drop off/pick up can be a real bitch with so many cars trying to pick up all the kids. Plus a different grandparent daily would be difficult for the school to get used to. So I'm on the fence. Do you have to pay for the bus?

Yesterday school was cancelled for the girls because of snow. Last night MH was wondering if it would be cancelled again. I told him it likely wouldn't and if it was we probably wouldn't know until the morning when they decide and announce it (and sure enough we were alerted by a text from the district saying as much a few minutes later). Yesterday morning we both got text and email announcements from the district. But that darling old man went right to the local news channel to look for it scrolling along the bottom of the screen. Of course they were only addressing Seattle schools. He still doesn't realize we live in the internet era and thinks you have to watch the local news to find out the weather rather than just look at the front screen of your phone.

Re: kindergarten, supposedly our school is having an orientation for rising K’ers this month or next, and then they offer something in April where the kids get to go and see their classroom, ride a school bus, etc. while parents register. B really wants to ride the bus and the stop is about 50’ from my house, and they’ll drop off at our driveway, so I’m leaning towards letting him at least for this year. My cousin is a teacher and the schools are forever grateful when parents do the bus for kids. It's a massive hassle to have so many cars, parent drop offs etc within such a short time period. Total nightmare for the school, neighbourhood, buses coming in, those walking to and around the school etc. I used to feel bad that B has to take the van everyday like I was missing out on something, but after doing drop off a few times and knowing the teachers/school side of it, regardless of situation I'd always choose the bus option. Obviously there are days I cant avoid it or would want to be there; appointments, first day, last day etc. Yeah. Here it totally makes sense for him to take the bus, and since K is only half-day it’ll buy me some extra time on the front and back ends of the morning. Our school is excellent but is located in a residential neighborhood and gets very congested, so they really encourage kids to walk or bus. Back in FL, we’ll see. It’ll depend on some things. tallb I also went to private school k-12 so I have the same feelings (reservations?) about the bus since I have no experience. Our elementary school had a back entrance in our neighborhood so parents just dropped us off there (yes, we literally lived in a bubble, lol).

flamingo, with half-day K I'd definitely lean toward the bus. That's my biggest issue with preschool transportation. Since it takes 15-20 min to drive there it hardly feels worth it for only 3 hrs. I barely drop her off, do a bit of cleaning or errands and it's already time to pick her up again.

Does anyone here use a Chromebook? My laptop died and I have to get something new ASAP but don’t want to spend a lot. My BIL and both my parents use them and are very happy. I think if you are just using it for email and farting around on the internet they’re perfect (which is all I use my MacBook for so no judgement 😂). If you need lots of storage or word processing power it may not be enough.

I was looking at K stuff this morning and they bus from out neighborhood because you have to cross a busy street to get to the school. H always talks about wanting to ride in the school bus so I think I might let her.

C will take the bus. We live 0.9miles from the school but the drop off line is a nightmare and he really wants to take the bus. I am also hoping my neighbor can get him on some days since she has a daughter a year older and it would allow me to get to work earlier.

Our school system seems so disorganized. I have asked about a visitation day and they just said, yeah that will happen. I asked when, they said they didn't know. So then I asked when it usually is... summer, spring, etc, and I still couldn't get an answer! Don't they know I'm anxious about all this!! Our school district still has 2018-19 school year stuff up on their website. Dang schools need to get it together.

flamingo do it! I actually feel quite bad bc the bus comes at like 8:40 here, so I will have to do before care since I can't leave that late. I've broken the news to him, but not sure he realizes he won't get to ride it. At our apt it stopped right out front and loved watching it. Full disclosure - I went to private until high school so didn't ride the bus until then (and then only a year until I started driving), so the thought of sending him off to school on a bus gives me heart palpitations. Dude does before and after care since he is only half day (10:20-2:20). It’s super fun and he loves it. I know it’s probably structured differently everywhere, but they do indoor PE, bring a toy to school day, special snacks, sometimes the teachers order them pizza. They also have a lesson plan they follow like the regular class and their unit now is The Arctic. They’re building igloos this week. That sounds super fun! I assume j will love before and after care, I know some older kids who seem pleased with it. In so nervous about him making some good nice buddies. He's basically the only kid I know that doesn't like super heroes or anything remotely scary. He did the bobsled ride last week and is still talking about the scary yedis, whoops.

Negative Nancy was just in here measuring the space. They (she and the office manager) have now decided to move a different file cabinet than the ones I emptied for them. So now I'm supposed to move the files that are currently in that one to one of the empty ones. And she doesn't like the cabinet that my printer sits on and wants to change it out for her own. That cabinet has files in it and I'm not emptying that shit out. It's one of the attorney's personal shit. Sounds like they need to be the ones moving files to the other cabinets. You already did your part.

I'm sure he will be great. S loves superheros and all that stuff, but also regularly plays non "rough/scary" games. We actually were discussing last night how certain kids don't like to play superheros/Ben 10 (his new obsession), but how he likes to play other stuff with them, and how is BFF "R" doesn't like to play those things (the example he gave me was kitchen play). I asked him what he does and he said that sometimes he plays Ben 10 with R and sometimes he tells R he wants to play the other thing. I dunno, that was long winded and I'm not sure I got my point across, but I guess what I am saying is that J will do great

So maybe it wouldn’t matter which parent or grandparent is there to pick up.

The pedi called back and said viruses can go up and down and the tamiflu wouldn’t have any effect on his temp or symptoms. It’s just known to cause vomiting especially in children. So as long as he’s not vomiting to keep giving it to him. If he has trouble breathing, I take him to the ER.
Of course MH showed me the story of a 4yo that died from the flu & pneumonia in Dallas so I’m all paranoid now.

Half the school year is over and Colin still loves riding the bus. I DO drop him off when they have a delayed opening because I keep him home and his bus picks up at daycare (and school is on the way there). He likes getting dropped off occasionally but the traffic flow is a mess, so he'll be taking the bus from home once he's no longer going to before and after care.

C will ride the bus. The kindergarteners have to sit in the first couple rows and have to show the bus driver who is there at the bus stop to get them.

jewels s sounds super sweet. He has great friends now that are into it and they have lots of common interests, so I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm used to the preschool bubble where I saw the kids and talked to the teachers twice a day. Gah, they are growing up 😭
