Yesterday when I got home I saw little paw prints in the snow and I could feel my heart break, I looked around for a bit to see if it was still around but nope. So this morning I put out a large amazon cardboard box, a towel on the bottom and a king size comfy blanket, food and some water...which is probably ice by now. I hope a neighbourhood cat feels warm today, poor thing

Re: kindergarten, supposedly our school is having an orientation for rising K’ers this month or next, and then they offer something in April where the kids get to go and see their classroom, ride a school bus, etc. while parents register. B really wants to ride the bus and the stop is about 50’ from my house, and they’ll drop off at our driveway, so I’m leaning towards letting him at least for this year. My cousin is a teacher and the schools are forever grateful when parents do the bus for kids. It's a massive hassle to have so many cars, parent drop offs etc within such a short time period. Total nightmare for the school, neighbourhood, buses coming in, those walking to and around the school etc. I used to feel bad that B has to take the van everyday like I was missing out on something, but after doing drop off a few times and knowing the teachers/school side of it, regardless of situation I'd always choose the bus option. Obviously there are days I cant avoid it or would want to be there; appointments, first day, last day etc.

It’s just down the street so I’m hoping we can have M ready early enough so we can walk. As long as it’s nice outside.

vino , what a kind heart you have. I hope it makes a little kitty warm and cozy. Thanks. I think MH thinks I'm going to take them all in, this is how his parents ended up with 16 cats in the house...because 7 kids bringing home strays and cold cats over the years, so I have to tread lightly. And honestly, had I found a cat last night, I would have brought in him, no doubt, -40C/F is far too cold.

I would use the bus if we were further away.
We’re very, very lucky in that we are literally right behind the school. We cross an alley, and that’s it. I won’t be comfortable letting Dude walk alone for awhile still because that alley is where the buses drop-off and a second line of parents forms there if the front is too busy.

I have no idea where the bus stops. Aside from my neighbor across the way whose daughter is in high school (and is picked up at the bottom of her driveway), we leave a little too late for preschool to see where the kids are gathering (if they gather?), but I’d make a pretty strong guess that it’s driveway pick up.
ETA: all of that being said, I probably will drive Josie in because it would be easiest to drop her off and then take Charlie to preschool.

His mom ended up with a three legged cat that she named Tippy to because of that.

flamingo do it! I actually feel quite bad bc the bus comes at like 8:40 here, so I will have to do before care since I can't leave that late. I've broken the news to him, but not sure he realizes he won't get to ride it. At our apt it stopped right out front and loved watching it. Full disclosure - I went to private until high school so didn't ride the bus until then (and then only a year until I started driving), so the thought of sending him off to school on a bus gives me heart palpitations.

We don’t have school buses over here. I think 70-80% of kids are coming to school on a bike. In more rural areas this means kids sometimes have to cycle 5-10 miles...

I don't think the bus picks up in our neighborhood for the elementary school. It's only a couple blocks away. Most kids walk, bike or get dropped off by the parents....I think.

Dude does before and after care since he is only half day (10:20-2:20). It’s super fun and he loves it. I know it’s probably structured differently everywhere, but they do indoor PE, bring a toy to school day, special snacks, sometimes the teachers order them pizza. They also have a lesson plan they follow like the regular class and their unit now is The Arctic. They’re building igloos this week.

Our district has a link to see when/where bus pick up is so for those curious they could look at the district site.
I'll all about the bus. I know M's school is much bigger than my elementary was, but damn parents now can't figure out the pick-up line. It's insane. When I was a kid it was really quick going through the circle. Now parents start lining up 15 minutes before school gets out and it doesn't even start to move until at least 5 minutes after school gets out. I can see my kid standing there but am trapped behind 8 cars and can't get to her. If I need to pick her up for some reason I park and walk up because it's always faster.

Negative Nancy was just in here measuring the space. They (she and the office manager) have now decided to move a different file cabinet than the ones I emptied for them. So now I'm supposed to move the files that are currently in that one to one of the empty ones. And she doesn't like the cabinet that my printer sits on and wants to change it out for her own. That cabinet has files in it and I'm not emptying that shit out. It's one of the attorney's personal shit.

Very few houses qualify for elementary school, since we live in a small town with 5 elementary schools. We are about 1/2 mile from elementary, 1/3 mile from Middle School and less than a mile from high school, so we will never have a busing option

I feel like H is getting worse. His fever is higher today than it was yesterday and the Tylenol I gave him this morning brought his temp down a bit but not to normal. We started tamiflu last night so he’s had 2 doses. Would y’all stop giving it to him? So far he hasn’t vomited, which I know is a side effect.
I out a call into the pedi and I’m waiting to hear back.

Y’all are chatty today! I read the whole thread and now I only remember kindergarten/bus talk. Still have no clue what we are doing next year. I’m going next week for M’s long holiday weekend and hoping to check out a few schools Friday. tgrimes Not great. I’m sorry. Hope he turns a corner soon.

tgrimes I would probably keep giving it to him at least until the pedi gets back to you, mostly because I’d be worried about him not being able to fight off a secondary infection if his little system gets too overwhelmed with the flu.

I wish we had a cleaning lady. Right? DH gave me the go a long time ago but I feel guilty since I’m ‘home’, and I’d rather him prioritize that $$ for flying. I am definitely going to take him up on it when we move back to FL, though, since he will be deploying for 8 months shortly after we get settled there. I will have no guilt then 😬 I have gone back and forth on a cleaning service. I feel guilty spending the money when it's something I feel like I should be able to do. But H knows I'm busy and neither of us have the time to keep the house in the condition we want it, so I vow to find a way to pay for it once a month. I had even set up service with a larger company in the area (previously owned by H's aunt, now managed by his cousin and his wife), then cancelled it, found a local lady who did it on her own and was $25 cheaper, then cancelled her, then talked to H's cousin's wife, who evaluated the time they spent and gave me a further discounted rate, and I promised I would never cancel the service again. I mean, these people vacuum the back of our sofa (which you see when you walk into our house)...that's something I would never think to do.

I can't decide on sending E on the bus or not. Small town, so bus stops are right in front of your house. But the grandparents could easily drop her off and pick her up every day, saving us money. But I do know the drop off/pick up can be a real bitch with so many cars trying to pick up all the kids. Plus a different grandparent daily would be difficult for the school to get used to. So I'm on the fence.
