I am happy to go into as much detail as you’d like about a planned C section and what it’s like, if that would be useful. IMO it’s a totally different experience from an unplanned one. Someone on the old parenting board told me to think of it as a very exclusive spa treatment that ends in a baby and that cracked me up but it’s not entirely unlike the experience, it’s so relaxed. Recovery was so much better for me the second time because of the relaxed vibe and because my body hadn’t already been through hell and back. That's what I keep hearing. My induction with DD started Monday night and I had the c section Wednesday morning and stayed in L&D in bed for another 24 hours on magnesium. I'm pretty sure that the only way things can go is up. I'm scheduled for 8 in the am. MIL will come stay with DD. I'd like some time right after delivery to just be DH, the baby and I. Last time we really had visitors too quickly and I should have taken more time to rest and snuggle the baby. When will you have your girls drop in? I've only had a scheduled CS, but I can confirm that my experience was night and day (better!) than 3 of my friends who ended up with an emergency cs after laboring. So I echo what tlex said. And you didn't ask me but I'll answer about visitors, too I felt so rushed/bombarded as soon as we left recovery and got into our room by the 15 family members who had been waiting and decided that this time we're doing no visitors on day one. It will be the only time it's just the 3 of us and I want to soak it in, and not have to share my baby yet! Lol. E will be with my parents, and we will let them bring her up that first evening because I want her to be the first to meet him, and my parents will be allowed to come in for 15-30 minutes tops after MH brings E in. But that's it, we're not even letting ILs in on day 1 (ftr, I left that up to MH, he said to just have them wait, I'm not just a mean DIL 😉). I figure we're going to be in the hospital 2.5 more days, over a weekend, that's plenty of time for everyone else to come visit (I also limit visitors the first week we're home so we can better adjust to new life/schedule there).

This is what I want to o! My C-section was scheduled for 2:00 but ended up getting bumped to 5:00, I had some fluid issues and DD had some body temp issues, by the time we finally made it to recovery it was nearly 9:00 pm. Our parents had been in the waiting room nearly all day and so I felt obligated to let them come back but the last thing I wanted was to socialize. Not this time.

Yeah I didn't really know better so I didn't feel pressured to rush down to the room, but the entitlement of EVERYONE who was already there just assuming they were welcome the second we were in the room was something. I didn't tell them to be there 5 hours early, it's not my fault they chose to wait all day. I mean during the transfer they took E for her bath and what not and MH went with her and people were asking to come into the room before they were even back, which meant when she came back they were all over her and I didn't get her back until late that evening. No thanks to that again.

An exclusive spa treatment that ends with 2 babies I can get down with! I've been stressing a little about my c section because the last one was unplanned and slightly traumatic. Everything was fine in the end, though. Recovery was not bad but we didn't have stairs amd now we have a lot. I'm not sure if I'll hang out on the first floor with the kitchen and half bath, or upstairs with the full bath and my bed??? With DD I would come down in the am and then go up at night. I'm not sure how I'll handle this with a three year old this go around but we spend most of our time on the first floor so it may just mean bringing her clothes downstairs to get dressed or rearranging our routine and getting ready before breakfast. I know my DH will be home for a bit in the beginning so having him go up and down the stairs with her to do stuff like get ready and bedtime is the plan.

I'm definitely Team DD gets time with us first. I've already told MIL that DH will meet her in the lobby. I think I'm ok with our parents stopping by quick that evening provided things are going well. I just want some alone time with the baby since we didn't really do that last time and it's one of my major regrets.

I hope you don’t deal with that again. I’m scheduled for 8 am too but be prepared to be bumped a time or two for emergency cases, I did my makeup and a self manicure while waiting my turn last time lol. We don’t call people to come until I feel like I want to share... with D1 that was a full day later (failed labour and c section), with D2 I was calling my besties to come by dinnertime and she was born at 1pm. I felt great and happy to share her/see people. No matter what I feel hot rage when my mil comes because hormones but I just have my H keep that visit very short. I will let my kids come when I feel/look like myself enough that I can enjoy their visit and take pics! I do expect I’ll want them to be some of the first to meet him but we’ll see, we live an hour away from the hospital.

I have no ability to turn people down from visiting at the hospital or my house. H doesn’t either. At least his parents are thoughtful and know to make themselves scarce when the nurse comes in to check my incision or when I need to breastfeed.
My mom likes to describe herself as the house troll who just sneaks around and does laundry and delivers snacks. She was seriously the best and would just arrive with a snack plate and water. I may never let her leave.

My story will be a lot different than most of yours and you guys probably think I'm nuts, lol. But we are having a home birth. Depending on when I go into labor my kids will be here. My best friend is going to come hang out, hopefully for the delivery, but she will mostly be there for kid support. We also have a birth photographer and 3 midwives who will be here.
Last time it was just DH and I, with the midwives on the phone, until my water broke. He then called my aunt to come help because we werent sure the midwives would make it. I had a very very short labor.

Thank you for the info and suggestions Tlex! Knock on wood...my pain has been much better lately, so I’m hoping that trend continues. We’re planning on going snowshoeing this weekend though, so we’ll see.

Does anyone have the Owlet sock? Is it worth me spending $300 on it?

I have a few friends who have had home births and nothing but lovely experiences. In the end we all get a baby!

Does anyone have the Owlet sock? Is it worth me spending $300 on it? I didn't use anything like it, but I was never the anxious mom. Like I never even hovered over the crib to watch her breathe, lol. I have had a few friends who have used at least similar things (can't remember if it was the owlet specifically) and liked it. But some did say that it gave false alarms sometimes, which would ramp their anxiety up more. I think it's a personal preference thing for sure, and for me it just wasn't something I needed.

Sometimes my spaniel mix does really shallow breaths so her back doesn't really move, and I've been known to wake her up to make sure she's alive. #batshitcraydogmom

Never the kid, though, LOL.

WHY AREN'T YOU MOVING!?! I'm hoping maybe my batshitcraziness will have worn off on the dogs and I'll be more sane for the baby. We're still holding out hope that the dogs will want to sleep in the baby's room and not with us once he's consistently in the nursery. We have a king sized bed and we utilize maaaaaybe 1/4 of it total, with the dogs flopping around in the middle 3/4.

I haven’t heard back yet about my c-section date. He sent in the request Friday. The office was closed Monday... I can call today without that being annoying, right?
I really want to know. Obviously! But I also need to know so I can start planning childcare for when I’m in the hospital. With ds2, my parents took ds1 for the first night or two. But he’s in kindergarten now and has already missed a decent amount (all asthma related). So I don’t want him to miss more than necessary.

You guys would love my H. He breathes SO loud when he’s asleep. He also snores, but just his breathing is loud. I’ve never had to wonder if he’s still breathing 😜
My cold has moved from just sinus to now nose and I can’t breathe. I miss mucinex so much. I also have a late work meeting tonight and won’t get home until 9. Sad.

photomama2013 I am glad you shared that you were having a homebirth bc I hadn't really mentioned it as I know people often think it is nuts. I will hopefully be having a water birth again with my 2 midwives and my sister to help out as our girls(if awake) will be present too.

Wicket I'm so hoping for a water birth this time. DS1 was born in the hospital and I wasnt allowed to deliver in the water. DS2 was born at home, but my labor was only an hour so there was only a couple of inches of water in the tub. This time I'm really really hoping for a little longer labor so I have a chance! I've already started losing my mucus plug and baby is head down and engaged. My midwives both commented that they are glad they live close. In two weeks they will come do a home visit and leave their stuff and the tub. We are getting closer!!

photomama2013 and Wicket You arent nuts. I have never done a home birth because i am not quite comforable with it and dont know that their are midwives around here that do them. But I have done 2 unmedicated hospital births. With my first i walked into the hospital fully dialated ready to push. And with my second since i had been through labor before I knew better when to head to the hospital so there was time to do the in take paperwork, the nurses seem a little stressed when you walk in complete. Both babies were out within 1-2 hours of me getting to the hospital. I basically labor at home for as long as possible so if you're nuts i am nearly nuts : )

photomama2013 fingers crossed you have more time! Water is so amazing. Dd1 was a hospital birth too but the rooms with a tub were all taken. With dd2 we had an awesome soaker tub so it made it easy to fill. We have moved since and no longer have an awesome tub which is a bummer but I am hoping we have time to fill the pool. Knowing now how my contractions are (not really follow the typical timing) I can hopefully fill most of it and then just add the the warmer water when it is really go time.
