Dumb FTM question: how do I get a breast pump if it's covered by insurance?
I checked my insurance coverage and it's covered at 100% if in network, and 50% if out of network. Is that assuming I'm getting it through my OB office? Is that a thing? I feel like at 32 I should know this, lol.

I put all of my info in online and they sent me a list of ones my insurance covers and other options if I wanted to pay yo upgrade. I am choosing to upgrade to a Spectra s1 instead of the Medela pump in style advanced.

Last time I got mine through like a 3rd party....I called (or maybe filled a form out online?) and gave them my insurance info and then they called me and gave me my options and made the order. At my OB appointments I've seen pamphlets with info on them as well but I keep forgetting to grab one before I leave. Someone I knew just bought one and insurance reimbursed her, too. I would think if you called your insurance they'd be able to let you know their preferred method, or your OB could point you in the right direction. I'll try to remember to see if I can find the info I used last time during nap time later...

Thanks for the breast pump reminder... I'd like to get a new one and maybe try the spectra.
ETA 4 years ago, I think there was a medical supply company that my insurance needed me to call. It was like a game of wild goose chase and easiest to just call insurance directly to find out the best procedure to obtain one.

yeah last time i called the 3rd party supplier who needed my insurance to know what was covered for free and a prescription for a breastpump from my OB. I would check with your insurance first to see how it works.

This is good to know. I'll just call my insurance company and see what they recommend.

Has anyone used the Spectra S2? That is one of my options. I used the Hygeia last time and did not respond well (not sure if pumping in general or just that one).

My anxiety is so high right now thinking about the switch from 1-2 kids. MH came home with this *great* š plan for me and DD to come with him on his trip when Iāll be 32 weeks and DD nearly 4. Fly out to a huge city (we are country people I canāt imagine living in a city for context lol) and then be alone with DD during the day while he works. It just made me feel like a shitty mom because I canāt imagine taking on the city with my DD alone and even something simple like the zoo with two stresses me out. Iām just worried about how Iāll function getting around places with two. I work so typically we do a lot as a whole family but I am off a ton in the summer and any traditional school breaks I just donāt want to be home all the time because I canāt handle being out with them.

nmom I am a country person as well. So I understand your apprehension about managing a trip to a large city, but i think a before baby trip could be really fun depending on where you would be going and you are right that it will only get harder to do something like a big trip with two kids, but leaving the house just takes longer and I stuck to short trips while on Maternity leave because i had a head strong two year old. But I think a 4 year old should be easier to manange with a newborn. You will be able to do it. My husband went back to work about 5 weeks after my son was born I did a lot of solo trips short trips to the library or park to get my toddler out of the house and practicing the 2 on 1 dynamic. I take them alone to do things a lot now we just went on a small hike just me and the kids this past weekend. I wont promise it will be easy at first but you will get the hang of it.

nmom I think those are all totally normal feelings. I've always had extra kids tagging along with me. My two youngest siblings are currently 8 and 10, so packing more kids up was no big deal, but doing so while pregnant is so exhausting. I think some 1 on 1 time with your DD before the baby might be fun! jewelsofthenile I'm jealous of your H's paternity leave! My H had 2 days with each of my boys. I'm excited that he will have a whole week this time!

Hugs pambee! Sorry you failed your GD test remi! Iām definitely a country person too nmom, so I get the angst about going on a trip in a city. Big cities make me a bit nervous, and I wouldnāt want to go anywhere by myself or just with a child.

AW post. I have been home a lot and our weather stinks. We have a lot of snow and my snow gear doesnt fit. So I've been crafting a lot. I made these sweet pants and matching hat last week. I have some more fabric to make a "boy" pair tomorrow. Trying to keep busy and avoid the winter blues.

nmom, like because I'm feeling the same way about going from 1-2 kids. I'm scared shitless. DD is mostly a good kid but as a typical toddler she often doesn't listen to a word I say - what are the logistics of handling 2 of them at the same time?!

Add me to the list of terrified moms of expanding families... like I can sometimes barely manage 1 and she gets all the attention. What's going to happen when we go from 1 to 3??? It may be a shitshow.
Also, a random guy on the street yelled, "look at you, you pregnant whore!!!" to me during my walk from the train to work. I am fed up with bullshit and was already tired on my way IN to the office so I yelled back, "yeah well fuck off!!!" It felt good. Although maybe I should've avoided any confrontation... he seemed to be unwell. We continued on our way without further incident, though.

Eames that would have put me over the edge for the day! I get all kinds of comments at work. I mostly SAH but I have worked seasonally for a local family farm for the last 10 years or so. People ask me if this is my first baby and when I answer, nope my third they look at me like I'm nuts. I look younger than I am, but common people!

More FTM questions:
How did you decide on which bottles to get? I'm planning on EPing and he has to have plastic bottles for daycare. I got the Spectra pump, which says I need wide neck bottles. I assume that's just if I'm going to pump directly into a bottle, so I can get different ones for when he's at school? Should I get a few different single ones? I think my Amazon welcome box came with a Tommee Tippee and another one.
I know diapers are going to depend on his body shape/size - should I start with a few packs of each brand in the first few smallest sizes?

This time I'm just using what came in my Amazon box. I mostly nurse from the tap, so 2 bottles is plenty if someone is watching him or her for a few hours. For diapers, I like pampers to start. After newborn or size 1 I have switched to huggies in the past. This time I have pampers NB as well as a small pack of honest that I grabbed at TJ maxx. Then I have pampers for size 1 and haven't bought anything bigger. My biggest advise is dont open a box until you're ready to use them. Babies seem to grow over night and what works one day is leaking the next, but you can exchange for a different size if they are unopened.

I'm not planning on really opening anything (or washing anything) until he comes out. Like I keep hearing how so-and-so's baby never fit in newborn sizes of clothing, so now I'm paranoid that I'm going to take tags off of all this stuff that he won't ever fit into. I certainly won't open any boxes of diapers if they can be exchanged lol.

Eames, omg. People are the worst. Good for you for retaliating š lemondrop, bottles and diapers are hard. You are correct that you only need specific bottles if you're pumping directly into them, which I never did (just into the medela bottles that came with and then into storage bags). If you can find a few single ones, then sure, but I wouldn't stock up on a ton because if he takes to the first one you try, then you have to either return or deal with other opened bottles. We used Tommee Tippee with E, and purely because it was the first ones we tried and she took them fine (we ebf, but she took a bottle when we went out or something obviously). Diapers are basically the same, it's going to vary on the size and shape of baby. We used Luvs with E so that's what I'm stocking up on now (and hoping for, because they're cheap haha). But when we're in the hospital we just use whatever they have, which I believe were Huggies last time. I ended up hating Huggies because they ALWAYS leaked for us, and tried pampers for a while but as she got bigger they leaked too. Then happened to try a small pack of Luvs someone had gotten us and loved them. Target brand worked well for us too, I just preferred Luvs because I thought Targets weren't as soft. So it wouldn't hurt to have a small pack on hand of 2-3 brands for you to try, but just know that even as they grow you might find your preferences and the fit changes and you end up switching brands again. But keep receipts taped to the packages/boxes if you can, it will make life easier when returning because even though Walmart and Target both sell all brands, Walmart comes in a pack of say 36 diapers, but Target sells them in packs of 38 (random #s) and each won't return the other's packs. It can be annoying to track down which store they came from.
