Preschool has enrichment classes in the afternoon, so I’m sending Josie for lunch and holiday baking. I hope she enjoys it. Until then, we’ll be here just hanging around. I have on The Joy of Painting right now, and it’s a good morning vibe bc they were both up by 630.

guster that sounds like fun! I wish Cadence's school did things like that. They offer one a week — usually one is science driven, one is baking, one is crafting, and one is some kind of dance or music based on the school’s focus for the month. It’s an additional $30 per class. I’m hoping to send her at least twice a month, and in the spring I’d like to do it on the days that she has school so she gets closer to being away from home for a whole day.

Morning! MH is running late so he's going to drive C to school. I'm taking the little 2 to Trader Joe's and then A's 9mo appointment. Pleeeaassseee let his dr say he can get off the preemie formula. It's so so expensive!

Morning!
The sun is out here! I’d kind of forgotten what it looked like. B has school today and C and I need to run to Pottery Barn for a gift for a friend, and I also need to find an ornament for an exchange I’m doing this weekend with MOPS.

Can I tell y’all what is the most annoying thing ever? B’s LEGO advent calendar (that MIL sent...does she hate me?) Every morning, right when I get up, he wants to open the day’s door and I have to build whatever is inside. Microscopic pieces + still half asleep = not delightful. Why I get this honor and not my H—who actually enjoys LEGO—I am not sure. How many days til Christmas??

Is there anyway to transition it to an evening activity so yh can be the builder?

Maybe he doesn’t like LEGO as much as I thought 🤔 ETA: I just asked B why he waits and asks me and he replied, ‘because I just want to’. Lucky Mom!

He asked for it again this year, but it’s the same as last year. And naturally it all got mixed in with our other 4 million pieces. I wish i would have kept it all together, taken it all apart and put it back in the windows for this year and just stored it away with the Christmas books/decorations etc.

mamabear yes, I have felt that way about certain friendships (thinking of one of my college BFFs, in particular). I wouldn't take it personally at all, there are probably a lot of things at play. I do think a lot of people just aren't initiators...for whatever reason, they will happily accept invitations, but they are never going to do the inviting themselves. I am a planner but sometimes it would be nice to get an invitation where I just have to show up. For your friends, it may also be a case of out-of-sight, out-of-mind, and whatever is easiest for them ends up dictating their plans. It's easiest to meet up with friends in their same life-place, who live close by, don't need to figure out a sitter, etc. One of my coaches told me one time, "People are in your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime" and over the years I've come to find a lot of truth in that. It's sad to feel like you're losing track of people, I totally get it. The situation I mentioned above really bugged me for a long time. (FTR, I debated talking to her about it but we both moved; I think we will probably just stay in touch via Christmas cards and social media). It makes me sad but it takes two, and I was really tired of carrying the proverbial load of maintaining the friendship singlehandedly. I would try and dig in in your new area and make some friends with kids. Easier said than done, i know, and I feel like the social-coordinator role usually falls on the wife, so it's one more thing on the to-do list. We didn't do a very good job of making new friends when we lived in FL most recently, b/c I had my parents and some college friends and their families there. We have had to force ourselves to branch out here, but it's been good for us. You may have to do the initiating at first but hopefully long-term there will be more give-and-take. TL; DR : I don't think it's you. Might be time for some new friends where you live.

kim22 He's so cute, Happy Birthday! mamabear I think feeling like you put more effort into friendships is kind of normal. I used to feel the same, I'd invite all my friends over and only 1 would make it or they would have plans, etc. For awhile, it hurt my feelings and I finally decided to just let it go. I also quit inviting people. Like, if you want to see me, you can ask me now. I also think it has to do with the age of kids plus you saying that a lot of your friends don't have kids. I remember pre E, I didn't feel like I had as much in common with my friends who had kids, so I didn't get together with them much. Now that I have E, their kids are all older, so still, not quite as much in common. Beyond the history of the friendship, it's hard to stay current with everyone. I have quite a few friendships I've had to let go of, just watch from afar, thanks to FB, but realize I will likely not see them in person again. And I'm okay with that. Making friends is hard. Hello, awkward. I feel like if it doesn't come naturally, it isn't going to work for me because I'm socially awkward anyway. Most of my friends now are people I work with and see daily. It's just less effort I guess? I'm also older, so maybe it's the old grumpy woman in me? That said, I am meeting 3 of my best friends from HS for dinner tonight, but I couldn't tell you when the last time was we all got together.

Morning.
I woke up around 530 this morning feeling nauseous. I popped a zofran real quick and it went away. Now I’m just waiting to see what I feel like when it wears off. I’m a little queasy after eating a little bit of breakfast. I may be going home later...

Tldr; Question (hopefully not too depressing) of the day. Does anyone else feel like they are the only one putting effort into friendships? I feel like I'm the only one who ever reaches out to any of my friends to say hey let's grab lunch or dinner, or even just suggest we have a phone date to catch up (for friends that are long distance). MH and I rarely get invited anywhere. I sometimes feel like there must be something wrong with me. When I do hang out with a friend we have a good time, it just seems like I'm always initiating. Some don't have kids, so maybe that's why? and it seems like most live 30 min away, which brings up another question of why we haven't made any new friends even though we've lived in our house 3.5 years now. Eta: sorry dont mean to be a DD. Holiday time thoughts I guess I find this with many of my friends and I think life just gets crazy for everyone. I'm at the opposite end where I am one of the last to have kids so I feel like I was there when everyone else had little ones, helping, etc, and now they are all too busy running around doing stuff with their school age kids to spend time with us. As to friends where you are, I've met a handful of people through the kids' school. They aren't people that I share my deepest darkest secrets with or anything, but they are people in the exact same spot in life who we can get together, let the kids run around, and have some wine. It's helped me be less lonely, esp with my H gone a lot.

I'm at the point in my Christmas shopping where I have absolutely no idea what all I have and I'm flying blind. I need to take some time and pull everything out of the closet, do an inventory, and wrap it. Plus, I have to get all of my brother's and nephews things wrapped and in a box to ship out so they get it by Christmas. I need to look up that deadline.
