I feel so bad for my mom. She had knee replacement surgery 5 weeks ago. She’s had terrible itching, hives, and blisters ever since. It’s not just on her knee, but all over. Anti-histamine isn’t working, steroids aren’t working. She’s miserable. She’s been to her orthopedic, a dermatologist, an allergist, and her pcp. They are thinking that her body may be rejecting the titanium in her knee. She goes next Friday to get tested. If so, they will have to go back in and remove it and replace with some other material. She’s so upset at this possibility. Having to basically start from scratch in the recovery again.

That's so hard to go through and then to find out it might have to be redone is horrible! I hope the find the cause and it isn't the knee

MH did a lot today while I was sick and he's gone to bed at 8pm. He did take E to get a gift for me at target without me suggesting

Oh my gosh lfig, that sounds horrible. I wouldn't even think something like that could be an issue (guess that's why I'm not an orthopedic surgeon). I hope they can find a cause/solution without redoing her knee.

wedding I think I would go back to your doctor, b/c I just can't imagine that recurring fevers is 'normal'. There might be some trial and error--immunologist, rheumatologist, infectious disease specialist were a few I saw mentioned with a quick google--in terms of who would treat this kind of thing (depending on what else is going on). I might keep a log for a few days/weeks of the time the fever starts/ends, any other symptoms you experience, etc.

wedding that’s tough but I would probably go back to the Dr for another blood panel, then ask for a referral to a neurologist or Infectious disease specialist to maybe check for an infection somewhere.

lfig OMG that’s fucking horrible. Your poor mom. My dad has had 2 knee replacements and they were not delightful. I cannot imagine having to go through that again. Holy cow!

wedding What’s your insurance like? Can you find an immunologist yourself?

I would go back to your pcp for labs and ask for a referral. If they don’t give you one, find your own. My ent told me to go to an infectious disease immunologist for H. The pedi did my referral and I got whoever was available. He’s one of their directors, but not an ID immunologist. My point is, see if You can get into one. If not, I was told a general immunologist should be able to pick up something and refer you, if need be.

I’m sorry you’re still having fevers. It’s not normal and they never to figure out what is going on.

Good morning. We’ve already played hide and seek and a card game. Omar has a cough now which means we’ve all gotten sick.

Gross weather here —I shouldn’t complain, people southwest of us are getting plastered with snow—so we need to figure out something to do today to get everyone out of the house.

I started last night, and it felt so good! I stayed up later than I wanted but it’s my only time to do it.
Everything else I have for the kids is being delivered so I’m going to try and do those as they come in to keep up.

Ugh. You mean that massive half opened-half unopened fort of amazon boxes closed behind the spare room door won’t wrap themselves!? Damnit. I hate wrapping with every ounce of my being.

For many years, I’d pay my roommate cash to wrap them. It was perfect.

Morning! I slept in and MH went back to bed when I got up. C is losing his mind because SIL gifted him a shitty Christmas train a few years ago and the tracks keep breaking and the train won't work. It's by far the worst gift the kids have ever gotten. I hate it soooooo much.

I’m pretty sure that the garbage collector is looking for exactly that train track!
